I agree. Generally speaking, you need a stiff material to cinch in the waist when you're going high-waisted. I have a pair of denim high-waisted shorts and one that's polyester/rayon. They're virtually identical except for a few small details but the denim looks vastly better on me.

I'm so glad I discovered high-waisted shorts; now I can finally wear all the shirts I own that turned out to be too short to wear with low-rise jeans!

I think I've seen my first pair of high-waisted shorts. I don't know what genre of clothing it's called, but I'll try and explain. We have a chain of clothing more appropriate for women that are mostly evening wear, formal/nightclub wear, and ultra-feminine casual clothing. One such chain is Clothesmax here in Texas. A store I was looking at was at Pasadena Town Square. One of the mannequins(?) had on some yellow tank top paired with high-waisted short-shorts. I still only like high-waisted trousers. Only exception to the rule are denim trousers (which are still generally accepted as jeans).

Another example of high-waisted shorts was in a Old Spice commercial or an Old Spice ad. This one girl had a '60s pin-up girl image wearing a red top with high-waisted denim shorts and some red pumps or sandals. I haven't seen high-waist shorts on someone in person. In fact, I don't think I've come across ANYONE wearing high-waisted bottoms. Maybe most women around my way don't buy into high-waisted bottoms like most of you in other places. It took me a while to see examples of bubble skirts and bubble dresses. It may take me even longer to see anything with a high waist.

I have hundred of pairs of these from primark .. i love them, cos i have aquite big bum they seem to flatter me well.. i never wear them bare legged though .. i have black ones, and black ones with gold nautical buttons.. comfyest things ever i love them

I am totally in love with high-waist shorts. but I must admit it's difficult to mix them and not flattering for all body-shapes.

For a more 'mature' woman like myself (29, really) i like feminine chiffon blouses like voodoo mary's tucked in to the shorts. For me, always a lighter, skin colour almost as I am short waisted and dark tops make me look squat.

i also have short little legs and a short torso. i generally try to go for lowrise pants or shorts because i feel they elongate my body. i feel like unless the shorts were super tight they would make me look like an awkward little kid...

thats exactly how i am, i always go for a low rise, because it elongates my torso.
I love this look, but i could never wear it....i'll leave it to the tall girls

Reviving.

Because of the heat, I'm actually going to wear dressy shorts for my first day of Fashion Week. They are black eyelet and high-waisted, although I may actually layer a 3.1 Phillip Lim green silk a-line sleeveless blouse over it with a black fitted blazer (for indoors). I thought about wearing black tights with the ensemble, but then I realized that defeated the whole purpose of wearing shorts in 90 degrees, anyway So I am going to wear some fierce black wedges and a black & white necklace or two from Morocco.
