^there have been gay rumors about Javier and about Penelope too, but in both cases I think it's down to roles they've played, Javier for the role of the gay Cuban poet and Pene because of Banditas and her close friendship with Salma. I don't believe the rumors so far.
Then again, Penelope dated Tom Cruise so we know she can be a beard...

Sam Mendes and Kate Winslet is a really good guess. I can't remember the last big movie Catherine Zeta Jones was in (Oceans 12?!) and I don't think she eclipses Michael Douglas as much as Kate does with her husband. But for some reason, when the blind item says "notoriety", it kind of seems to have a negative connotation to it (which neither Catherine or Kate really have in my opinion).. maybe it's just me

I don't think it's gwyneth/ winona either; as dajrekshn said, even if gwyn is considered a-list (which i dont think she is anymore) winona definately isn't. i think the clue is in the "political and powerful sway".. I'm thinking possibly someone who is known for their political activity, maybe someone who advocated Obama during the election??

or possibly Angelina? She certainly strikes me as someone who could make or break someone else's career.... but she hasn't really had any public feud (other than Jen Aniston if you call that a feud?)

As for Gwyneth being A-List, I say she 100% is. Isn't her godfather Steven Speilberg?
