ooooooooooookay!!
LAWD HAMMERCY, children!! i need a 5oz glass of scotch to calm my nerves after the
absolute mayhem at H&M.
so, it as a bloody SNOWSTORM in Vancouver last night. which is a complete rarity. i was working until about 2am, then i headed down to the H&M to see what was going on with the line-up. there were about 200 people there already. 198 of them were asian. lol. and there were 5 tents. TENTS! people had chairs and blankets and were all huddled together. pretty awesome! it was only about 20% men, and they were
all medium-sized asian guys. i'm 6'2", 185lbs ... so i figured that my sizes would be safe. i also figured that there wouldn't be anymore joiners until the proper morning, so i went home to sleep for a couple hours and headed back down at 6am.
by that time, they had made a special lineup for the guys, and it was inside the mall. HEAVEN! so i didn't have to wait in the snowstorm. the line grew and grew, but as i had expected, not many had joined in the middle of the night, so i was relatively close to the front. perhaps 30 guys in.
they brought cookies and coffee for us all. and then at 8am the doors opened ...
MAYHEM ENSUED!
i can quite literally and without an ounce of exaggeration tell you that the entire men's collection was off the racks in less than 6 minutes. people were grabbing ARMLOADS of whatever they could grab. and to be honest - the men's collection was NOT a huge stock. for example, they only had about 10 pairs of shoes. period.
being only 30 people from the front, i still missed out on the sunglasses, the blue/red bowties, the checkered blazer, the leopard tee, and the purple/blue shoes.
i managed to get the blazer with the navy lapels and a pair of cool pants, plus the navy cardigan. but that was it.
the trench coat -- which i was completely lusting over -- was not the material i was expecting. it was more of a nylon, thin, polyester kinda material. probably useful, but not soft and luxe like i was hoping. so i didn't bother with it.
anyway, after about 20 minutes, people started to try and trade things and a few things were set back on the racks, only to be VERY quickly snatched up by someone else (including myself. i got the light blue dress shirt like this. and it's a gorgeous, soft, linen).
all told, was very fun. love the stuff i got. was out of there in an hour.
i could hear over the intercom a man saying, about every 10 minutes, "ok, now people wearing a ______ bracelet, GO GO GO!" lol. i'm sure it was complete madness down there. but thankfully the men's stuff was all separate.
... and that was my H&M
Lanvin collection story!
