US Vogue November 2011 : Rooney Mara by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott

Wow that's revolutionary. They went outside the white studio for the Last Look section shot, in like for the first time since forever.

^^Oh I remember that one, t-rex! Think Grace styled that one too, right?

In last month's issue the Salvatore Ferragamo boot they showed was also not in a white studio but against green leaves.

No Meisel in this issue?? This would be first time in a long time right?

t-rex, you nailed it. i instantly thought Piano by EVU too! that was such a sweeping, gorgeous story as well.

as far as that cover: i think it's pretty boring and her hair  and while i love Ralph Lauren, the dress looks cheap on the cover. Rooney looks like a toned down Cher with that ridiculous wig...honestly the best thing about Rooney's ed was the opening page typography and how it echoed the graphic lines in the strappy Alexander Wang top Rooney's wearing on the opposite page. and that's kudos to the art director Raul and Tonne. that image should have been the cover shot imo.

The interview struck me as odd: the interaction between Fincher and Rooney seemed kind of creepy. She came across as pretty one-dimensional... she said nothing that really made an impression nor did i get the sense Rooney had strong sense of self or fashion or style. very bland, PG personality odd match for her role. And her 'personal style' feels very manufactured to me and that quote about Noomi looking like Joan Jett. Puuleaze. then Rooney is friggin Avril Lavigne. Noomi was made for the part. " Rooney's response to whether she had to get unhealthily skinny for the role: " Umm..not really." Fincher quickly adds, "It hasn't been too hard for her." Don't crank those gears to hard there...

But wow that Last Look! too bad that Meier shot wasn't a full blown accessories still life ed. it's great to see the bag being the center of attention. oddly enough 99% of the Last Look accessories i've seen over the years never interested me design wise but the way the bag is propped on that glossy green 'chair' and overall composition of the photo really makes it pop. and i love the way the jagged edges of the bag mimics the edges of brown lunch saks. lends a certain louche, accessibility to the insanely priced PS bag. bravo! a great way to end the issue.

This is the 2nd major cover story for Rooney that turned out to be more about Fincher. Is there so little to Rooney that they have to bring him in to make the interview interesting?

'Call in the Cavalry' is such a sumptuous and cinematic editorial. It's almost taboo to say around here, but... Ms. Muse is beginning to grow on me.

Call in the Cavalry

Grace does it again! What a beautiful editorial.

I love the stormy, cloudy skies David Sims has been doing lately.

Maybe its just me, but am I the only one sick of seeing Emma Stone? We get it, she's a upcoming, young actress with a sense of style.

What a gorgeous editorial. The movie it seems to be promoting, War Horse, looks like rubbish but since it's been instrumental in creating this beautiful editorial it's not a total failure.

wow Arizona and Jeremy's ed is really beautiful. It's the main reason for me to buy this issue. Super-beautiful from the cinematography, photography to styling. Loving the chemistry between em
