Valentino Haute Couture S/S 2010 Paris

i think if Balenciaga wouldve put this on a runway everyone would've screamed how great and inspired this is. (and tbh, i like this better than the super-futuristic stuff Balenciaga does)
in the last collections valentino himself designed everyone complained about how boring and repetitve he was.
i think it's ok that the are trying something new. maybe it's not perfect, i'm certainly not the one who loves this, but please give them a break, there are some nice ideas in all of this and i'll wait a bit longer until i scream "have them fired"... ;)

This is not Valentino, this is not haute couture, this is heartbreaking!

Wow. I came into this thread expecting to see traditional Valentino and ummm I don't even know what to make of this cluster-f@#k.

galuchat is stingray, not shark, no?

We need a couture dictionary, because I thought that stingray was shagreen (thanks to US Vogue's constant usage of it in their accessories editorials).

Perhaps the use of these words refers more to the finish you can potentially get using a variety of skins for the purpose, rather than any skin in particular.

Yeah, it's just a collection. But we as a forum like to discuss fashion and particulary in D&C we like to discuss fashion shows. Everybody has an opinion, and just because you like it doesn't mean that other people can't state their opinion, however mean it is. It's an awful collection and it's just not acceptable under Valentino's name. -_-

 I didn't said you weren't supposed to "discuss fashion shows"... I meant that there's no need to be upset about it... As much as we love fashion (and believe me, I do) our lives won't really change because of two designers who messed up with an old-school designer like Valentino concept. It's not like it's the end of the world... But that's just my opinion... ^_^

THANK YOU!
I am also getting annoyed at everyone screaming THIS IS NOT VALENTINO yadda yadda yadda. Constantly season after season I would read people giving Valentino flack for creating boring frilly collections over and over again yet now here everyone comes screaming how the house is destroyed. I think the whole reaction to the collection is a classic case of the pretentious mentality of people who like fashion. One minute you dislike or not care for a brand then when it changes everyone screams the house is dead.

Puh-lease. Valentino hasn't been a great fashion forward brand in YEARS so why is it dead now? No one seemed to care about it when Valentino himself was designing a few years back but now OH GOD its dead.

I can see people getting upset of post-Tom Ford Gucci and Galliano's current messes at Dior but Valentino? One of the most boring, safe, old & often tacky brands (90's-00's)?

 You are SO true!

Whether someone personally likes or dislikes a brand over time is an entirely separate issue to having an opinion on the manner of its evolution. I adored the old Valentino, but just because I was a faithful fan doesn't make my thoughts on the issue any more or less valid than anyone else's.

Sure, there's a tendency for some threads to sound overly critical - or in some instances, turn into mass worship - but when you see certain posters, all with their own independently strong viewpoints, expressing something in the same vein, you have to consider - could there be something in it?

i agree 100%. Valentino will always have a signature but there's nothing wrong [in my opinion] in switching it up a bit.. just wait until you can see the rest of the collection. it might be inspiring.

It just doesn't look good, i believe that's the main problem.

THANK YOU!!!!!! :clap:That is the problem. Even though some looks were inspired form the Valentino Archives, the execution is disgusting. I could care less if it was or was not under Valentino's name that fact remains that this collection is just horrible. And from what I have seen from the pre fall photos...its not getting any better!

At the end of the day it comes down to the customers. There are plenty of high fashion designers that aren't (or Trying to be ) editor darlings but they're in business because they have a loyal customer following. I think that was what Valentino had, his customers had followed him for years and decades, and they didn't care what anyone else thought.

But even on the (very thin and whimsy chance) that they or anyone else were into this collection, why buy a dress Rodarte does better?

No they wouldn't have. Balenciaga is a trendsetter, it doesn't follow trends; like how real couture houses should be. With Ghesquire at the helm, if Balenciaga presented one Haute Couture collection it is guaranteed that it would be ten times better than this.
This collection does follow trends, like some common pret-a-porter house desperate for sales, but they don't follow current trends; they follow stale trends like the whole Rodarte/Balmain wrap dress that was even produced at the new Ungaro for spring... Chiuri and Piccioli then throw in some shockingly badly fitting jackets and deck everything out in frills and flowers with no relevance whatsoever then hope everyone is too blinded by an "unusual" feather jacket to notice that their collection is worse than most ready-to-wear collections.
I'm insulted that you compared Nicolas Ghesquire, one of the great designers of 21st century fashion, with this spit in the face of Haute Couture and the House of Valentino.

awful collection
I dont remember seeing anything so displeasant on the runway since...I dont know
