and will he still keep Louis Vuitton ?
wow juggling and writing that much book of task

Marc Jacobs at Dior is pretty much confirmed, yes. The VP people were sort of joking about it during the FNO Paris live stream too, saying that it wasn't official yet but talking about it like it's a fact.

I don't thing he is so much romantic, classic, chic, "parisian" designer.

And neither has been John Galliano at Dior few years ago, eventhough I agree things have changed lately.

Besides, Marc is not only cool and streetwear and I don't think he would be incapable of doing something romantic, classic, chic and parisian at all. Take his F/W 2005 collection for Vuitton as a nearest example, if Christian Dior would manage to look like that, I'm on board already.

Still, the question remains, what will happen to LV. Phoebe Philo would be a match made in Heaven, although I'm not that sure if it's going to happen.

Some posters in this thread have such a convoluted and inaccurate idea of what couture is.

COUTURE IS NOT A LOOK

It is a means of making custom clothing and a standard of technical excellence. A t-shirt could be couture. And not to defend Jacobs, because I don't care for him being at Dior, but Marc Jacobs Collection is beautifully done. It is really some of the most exquisite ready to wear you can buy and he uses some of the finest factories to make it. He could very well do couture at Dior.

I was trying to emphasize that Marc is a sportswear designer and should be treated as such. I agree that his RTW is of really nice quality.

and I know exactly what the definition of haute couture is.

Talks Between Marc Jacobs and Christian Dior Said Proving Difficult

Last month, Marc Jacobs was said to be frontrunner for the currently-vacant Christian Dior creative directorship. That still seems to be the case, according to WWD sources, but there have been a few sticking points.

One such hitch in the talks? It's believed that Jacobs and his long-time business partner Robert Duffy are seeking a substantial increase on their current salary and benefit packages from LVMH, which already place them among the highest-paid designers and fashion executives in the world.
Dior is a more demanding job than Jacobs's current position at Louis Vuitton, with two couture collections in addition to two ready-to-wear shows and pre-collections. And Jacobs would be required to spend more time in Paris working with the atelier, given the intense craftsmanship involved with forming a couture collection.

If Jacobs does make the move to Dior, Phoebe Philo has been reported to be first in line to succeed him at Louis Vuitton. But according to WWD's sources, as of last week, she had yet to commit to the project or enter negotiations.

So there still are chances for Phoebe at Vuitton, hooray ^_^

So who is designing the nex collection?
The sweetheart of Gaytten or is Jacobs working already?

^The design team, with Bill Gaytten, so keep your expectations low.

Has Tisci expressed that he wants to do Dior? Last I recall, he was very coy about if he wanted to do it.

Why not Phoebe at Dior?

Why not Phoebe at Dior?

Phoebe at Dior would be disastrous. Sure it would be tasteful and Chic, but Phoebe would lack the Brash, almost Tacky element that is so familiar with Dior now from John.

Dior is all about the glitz, glamour and sassiness, Phoebe's Aesthetic would just not be suitable at all.

As for Zac Posen......no. Enough said. :innocent:

Marc Jacobs is Demanding Upwards of $10 Million to go to Dior

Are Christian Dior's options for big name designers narrowing? Since the whole John Galliano fallout earlier this year, the luxury house has been on the hunt for Galliano's replacement—a designer who's capable of producing ready-to-wear and couture collections.

Today WWD reports that since Alber Elbaz and Nicolas Ghesquiere have withdrawn their names from candidacy, talks with Marc Jacobs have heated up—and possible gotten prickly, with Jacobs and his business partner Robert Duffy allegedly demanding a "salary somewhere in the low eight figures each, plus other benefits."

Of course, Dior will be more work, says WWD:

Sources said the talks are proving difficult, with one sticking point believed to be that Jacobs and his long-time business partner Robert Duffy are seeking a substantial increase on their current salary and benefits packages, which already place them among the highest-paid designers and fashion executives in the world.

Dior, of course, is a much more demanding job than Louis Vuitton, with two couture collections in addition to two ready-to-wear shows and pre-collections. Also, the immense craftsmanship involved in couture means Jacobs would have to spend even more time in Paris working with the atelier on the collection. All of this would come on top of his own women’s and men’s wear lines, as well as Marc by Marc Jacobs, both of which have seen significant growth over the last few years.

So it looks like we're back to square one.. sigh. Interested to see how Gaytten will deal with the upcoming ready-to-wear collection..

They want $10 million each per year? Wonder if Arnault will give them that money.
