Six new models are brought to the biggest stage in modeling and viewers follow them from their first test shoot to the runways of New York Fashion Week. Petra Nemcova serves as a mentor and friend to the prospective models as they learn the trade of modeling and the business of fashion. Using her own life experiences, Petra advises the models on how to succeed as a model and underscores the importance of having a well-rounded life. Over the span of several weeks, the six girls live through the harsh business of modeling ranging from finicky photographers and clothing designers to contradicting advice on weight and body image from bookers and nutritionists. Throughout the process, NEXT Modeling evaluates the potential of these fresh faces and ultimately determines how many of the models deserve a contract with the agency at the end of the series.

Valerija Erokhina, isn't it? Abi Fox? Michelle Godin? Lucia Dvorska? :ermm:

I know that girl, Valeria. I saw her at a casting yesterday. She's in Sydney.

^^ They probably removed their books because of this show. :innocent:

Abigail and Michelle are both with Next NY (they're still on modelwire)... and so is Lucia according to her thread.

Next obviously doesn't have any great plans in store for these models, allowing them to enter a reality show, but what's in it for the girls? Some of them are working models, Lucia has international covers (minor, but still) dating back to 2005 and Valeria seems to have a decent career going in Australia, so why go on a show like this?

It's hardly the right kind of exposure to start a modleign career, or jumpstart a slumbering one, and they're all young with some actual potential so it's not like they have nothing to lose...

i can't believe valerija is on this

anyway

I agree 100% but reality tv has upset the applecart in other areas so maybe modeling isn't safe from its tacky grasp.

The show premieres July 18th at 9:00 or 10:00 pm (check local listings)

Was Petra Nemcova ever a “top model”?
Call us a cynical fat bastard (we like it), but we just know her as that not so ugly chick that survived the tsunami.
Well, apparently, Nemcova is qualified to host a Top Model rip-off show for TLC.
A Model Life debuts later this month.
What would Tyra have to say about this????

Petra never was a top model. Unfortunately she become more known (she's NOT famous) for being the beautiful model who's photographer boyfriends died during the tsunami and who was injured herself. She dated James Blunt and did Sports Illustrated..that's about it. I don't think she used the tsunami to be more known..but I doubt she would have gotten this show purely based on her model portofolia.

It is not fair at all to say the tsunami is the only reason she is famous. She was successful in the SI/men's model world well before that. Sure, the tsunami thing really made her a household name, but she was on the cover of the SI swimsuit issue a year before that

So is anyone watching this?

Anyone know if it's on youtube or the like?

I'll watch it but Petra Nemcova really wasn't ever a supermodel IMO.

Oh oops! I thought it had actually already started.... just realized it premieres tonight.

I'm totally watching it. There was a preview on Access Hollywood yesterday and an interview w/ Petra. Some of the preview I posted in the model & celeb weight thread. Petra tried to make it very clear that the show was not a competition w/ a panel of judges like ANTM. Although I'm a little worried about her as a host for a show, as her english was very poor in the interview
