Balenciaga S/S 2012: Juliane, Kirstin, Laura & Rosie by Steven Meisel

Ouch. That's just...well... do they really believe the Balenciaga girl aspires to that?

It looks like I could have shot this. Then on the editing table I would toss this set and call a real photographer to make a good campaign.

I'm a Meisel fan, but this

There was apparantly some 'beef' between David and MAS a while back, but I think it's sorted because they did the Chloe S/S and F/W 11 ads together and an ed for US Vogue. At least Sims isn't so biased in terms of girls he works with...we might have some diversity or at least some acceptable faces?

Quite frankly I'm getting really tired of both Meisel's current "vision" and his snooty choice in girls, all this casting of irrelevant 15 year olds screams out as a lazy and very desperate attempt to preserve relevance. Yet Meisel complains about all of these filler girls in interviews and crys about lack of diversity ...sorry to say but it's all so hypocritical. Maybe it's just that I used to be such a Nicolas fan but he's really let Steven f with the advertising aesthetic of his brand and it has done damage IMO.

I kind of like it. The only thing thats annoying me are the photos that are randomly stuck to the wall, its as if it were taken in the Studio at Balenciaga.

I frankly don't know what kind of customers they want to appeal to ...
It looks like the girl was shot in the studio

Let's hope the next shots are better ...

If I were Balenciaga CEO, I would be really mad looking at the bill and the ad at the same time....
But i guess they don't care. they mostly sell bags. why even bother doing a campain.

I agree with you Fiercification (the second part)
I kinda like the campaign.

I just can't even look at these pictures without getting over how disgusting the clothes are.

"why even bother doing a campaign." thought the same, really, this doesn't sell anything to me, and with a collection like that... yikes!

My first impressions are that I love the concept - some sort of designer studio candid, with the erratic wet hair, smokey makeup, and I sorta like the white bar for the logo. I feel like this could have look better on someone with a more compelling presence. I wonder how this would look with a different photographer...

Even though I'm not keen on the new (ahem inexperienced flavor-of-the-week) cast, I'm eager to see the remaining shots.

^ I completely agree, lovely concept (would have been better with a more expressive model), but not so well executed.

What a dreadful campaign! The clothes don't help much, tbth.

^Exactly, Plain but not that bad, all I can see is that a pretencious "good" concept didn't worked

Remind me why a professional and important photographer was hired and paid to do something like this?

I suppose I am the only one here who actually loves it.

Looks really fresh, clean and everything works perfectly together for me. Plus it's not very Meisel for Balenciaga, which is definitely a bonus in liking it.

the original concept may be fresh, but nothing is fresh about a half asleep/dead looking model. the collection was so beautiful to me, and if i cut off her head i can take in the details and appreciate this so much more

I can only imagine how amazing this campaign would look with Ann-Catherine Lacroix, Kim Peers or Hannelore.

This! even add Quarelle, Raquel, or Daria into this
