Boyfriend Jeans

Yeah this is a cool comfy trend but if you have hips at all you just look kinda gross

American Eagle has a pair of boyfriend jeans that my sister bought. I tried them on and they're really comfy. I have fairly narrow hips so they don't look so bad but I'd take skinnies over them.

They're comfy, I like them

Here's a pair from The Gap:

They are like wide straingt leg jeans, it's loose, it's flatterning IMO. I have a pair from Tommy Hilfiger, might provide pics.

Okay. I think I've heard of menswear fashion for ladies before. This especially applies to certain men's career clothes which can look very flattering for ladies. My thing about these "boyfriend" bottoms is that it kind of makes ladies look a bit like tomboys. I'm not trying to be sexist in any way, but I don't really like the boy-ish look of some ladies. A look I've disliked back in the 1990s was that of when ladies wore these baseball caps and hiding their long hair. And if it's one thing I'd hate to do, it's mistaking a girl for a guy. Imagine a feminine figure with a hot body modelling in something like these jeans. Perhaps someone like (picking names at random) Mariah Carey, Eva Longoria, Beyoncé Knowles, or even the beautiful JoJo in these. It's very casual, but I'd probably prefer usual jean styles like bootcuts, flares, bellbottoms, and stuff like that. Someone's going to have to look IMPRESSIVE in order for this trend to fly.

Keira Knightley looked great in them. I think they actually might be her boyfriend's jeans... they're just his style and they seem to borrow each other's stuff often!! :innocent:

I wore jeans like that in high school.
I love the effortlessly cool way it looks, but I do not think I could rock it now. It really is a tall, thin look IMO (and someone also said).
I'm 5'4. And usually the well made ones are done in a 32' and up inseam - meaning I would lose some of the knee-ankle bagginess due to hemming, and then they wouldn't look right.

...but if someone can show me Rachel Bilson in a boyfriend jean, I may be inclined to check it out.

i agree with fezbatik on this one...
it does have a degree of sexiness to it, if done right
but i am 5'4" and don't think i could deal with the bagginess
i think you need a long, thin torso for this to work
and perhaps not much articulation around your lower body
(small waist + round hips like mine won't have it)

it also reminds me (a bit too much) of my grunge days in high school
(the horror, the horror)
always a bit too messy, too casual

i do, on the other hand, love a more tailored menswear look
although i think the key is having high-waisted (as opposed to low-slung) pants
a la diane keaton in annie hall
sharp, structured, intelligent, and just lovely...

yes, i think that is just what's missing for me.
I could work this look if I was totally bumming out - but normally, I dig something with more structure - in this case, more like a wide leg than a slouchy one.

I really like the boyfried jeans look on girls, but they have to be slim. Their height doesn't matter too much. And it's important to balance out the volume of the legs with something shorter and more fitted on top.

Brands who are doing that style: GAP, Levi’s, Acne, Paper Denim & Cloth, French Connection does 'Carpenter' jeans, Superfine is doing a super-loose pair called Beau which can be rolled up and secured with a leather strap.

BF jeans

I personally think skinny jeans are over rated and they way stores are saying "GET THE SKINNY" just turns me off, I just bought into the hype and the trend is already going into over kill , i was in manhattan like a quarter of the girls were wearing them and most look horrid in them. Boyfriend jeans i think are jeans which awesome. Ive seen a variety of boyfriend jeans , i prefer the high waisted wide leg variety of them , the more glamourous version of it, the more comfy version has lower rise and not as fitted but i think its ok, i bought some AE boyfriend jeans and they are DAMN comfy and sexy and my legs have room to breathe in. Like John said earlier you dont want a baggy slouchy look that looks sloppy, the more fitted wide leg looks great with baby ts and fitted sweaters and even big tops like marc jacobs (you have to be really slim for that ). I feel this jean will be a more appealing jean for girls in North america than in europe though, I see it being big here for 2007-8 . Personally though I dont like straight leg jeans, i find them too boring, I like more fashionable styles.

I really like them..I actually used to borrow Jeans from my ex-boyfriend all the time because they looked amazing and we were apart a lot so it was good to have something of him when I missed him ^_^ but whatever I really like the way they look, they only problem I have is that I actually have hips so they don't always look good, depends on the pair! To me they are way more comfortable than Skinny Jeans but if I want a more feminime Outfit, I'll probably go for Skinny Jeans! :p

I  them but my bf hates them .. which is ironic as they are bf jeans.. they make my bum look bigger then skinnies :(

I guess a better alternative would be wide-legged jeans which still retain that feminine flair. I guess I've seen some pants a few years ago from Newport News { http://www.newport-news.com } which had the masculine-style bulkiness and comfort, yet still had the nice feminine flair. I'm just not as fond of these jeans as, say, widely-flared jeans or pants or even bell bottoms. Certain figures would look good with these. Not sold on the notion that MANY figures will work with these jeans. Perhaps the real benefactor of this look are those ladies who are supremely casual don't like prissy... girly clothes all that much.

I disagree with the theory that these only look good on tall thin girls/women. I have seen short curvy women wearing their boyfriends' 501s (medium loose fit, straight stovepipe leg) and they look fantastic. :woot:

why_fashion, those certainly look cut for women as they taper in from hip to knee; to me the classic "boyfriend jean" look falls straight from hip to knee; I think of that as the essence of the profile. But maybe that's just me. :)
