Gucci F/W 2006.07 Milan

They are horrible. So Versace...which equals tacky (for me).

Took the words right out of my mouth. Gucci is doing a 180 on the highway back to its former tourist-trophy status.

I actually found this collection to be somewhat refreshing, compared with most of the dark and platitudinous clothes populating Milans runways this season, this stands out as a nice fun sl*tty collection. It's predictable that this collecton would be panned on this site, considering the aesthetic most of you go for, and I even agree with many of the criticism's, yet for similar reasons stated by jssy4eva I find this all charming.

I love this metal bags chained to a fetishy cuff

on the bracelet/clutch

I don't know- it's kind of a cool concept!?
I actually like the looks of it-

and you never set down your bag and forget where

i´m sure there´s an easy way to unlock them, i like the rectangle shape of it, if i had to choose i will go with the second one.

i´m with most people here, i think there are great pieces and some others that weren´t much, my favourites are those black sequin dresses, specially the one on snejana and the ultra long coats, the one that i dislike the most is the first one that maria carla showed.

This collection looks tacky from what I see! I think her last collection was better. I don't understand why people want blatant sexualtity from gucci just because Tom did it doesn't mean frida has to do it too. I think the pressure for her to play the sexy card got to her and I sorry but the whole "Let my boobs hang out thing" is dead!!!!!

I couldn't have said it better myself!

I love the close up of the clutches. They are really nice and detailed! I love the accessories!

i like the dress carmen is wearing thats similar to snejana's hate the gold mini dresses however like the one julia has on

This collection is really horrible.........if it was Versace, everybody would probebly hate it.

I thought Versace was showing on friday the 24th? C'est horrible. Gucci should really get rid of this Frida women.

the very fact this is THE most talked about show in milan this season ...wether we hate this collection or love it , the fact is we noticed it , it caught our eye in a sea of runways full of balloon skirts and voluminous proportions. So like it or not we are slaves to GUCCI !!!!!!!!eehehehe

it is very against the grain- but I'm not sure that this new chick (I don't even remember her name :ninja:) has enough influence to shape the direction fashion will be following. Of course everyone panned the new guy at YSL, and then everyone copied him-

so maybe we will se lots of 70's hooker looks next -next season.

the sales will tell...

The video's up at style and I've really got to say that Giannini's interview annoyed me a lot. A few things she said really bugged me.

The first is that she claimed that this was an evolution from s/s. Now, fashion is a world filled with eccentrics, designers sometimes see things that no one else can in their collections but honestly, an evolution? Is she mad? It's like a total 180!

And she also made a comment when talking about the bags that they are, after all, her first love or something to that effect which I find terribly insulting and further proves that she doesn't belong designing ready to wear....honestly that comment really upset me.

Oh, and the soundtrack was pretty cool.

I saw the whole collection and it still looks cheap to me for some reason. I don't know I quess I'll wait for next season. Oh, and frida looks really good in that dress she in!!!

I adore the slightly tacky over-glammed seventies glamour look. I can't believe how seriously people are taking this; it's fashion for god's sake. I for one am glad there is a bit of fun amidst the gloom in Milan this week. I think the style.com review said it well:
Gold pantsuits, Ziggy eyes, ultraminis, and patchwork purple crocodile biker jackets: Yes, Frida Giannini is doing glam rock for fall. "I was thinking of David Bowie and the way people played with their image to be something different every time they went out in the seventies," she said. "It's less romantic and more about energy and showing off."

That, of course, puts Gucci out on its own, given the sobriety- and restraint-obsessed mood of Milan, but you can see Giannini's thinking. Monasticism and abstract experimentalism would be nonsense on a Gucci runway. Its meaning in the world is as a nonintellectual, good-time brand, and in any case, when all around is going gray, there's always a need for a bit of flash.
