Kamofie & Co. spokesman Christopher Spencer said the Associated Press was approached after the family was inundated with media requests for the footage. “The pressure after two months was so intense they had to make a decision to let Associated Press circulate the video.”
Spencer said there was also too much speculation about the video recording, and that “It was right for the public to be able to see the video itself.”
Spencer would not say how much the family made off the sale of the video. “At this point at this moment the family has not received any money from the AP,” he said.
But when the news of the video release hit the gossip websites, the owners of the store announced they planned to auction off the one-of-a-kind necklace and donate the proceeds to charity after they get it back from the Los Angeles Police Department.
“Kamofie and Co. have been put on trial through the gossip columnists showing up at their front door,” said Spencer. “They felt they only had the alternative to let it happen and now their integrity is in question.” Spencer said the family has received death threats and hate mail.

Lindsay Lohanhas quit smoking -- a great move for her health ... whether there's a jail sentence for probation violation on her horizon ... or not (as she continues to believe).

Sources close to Lindsay tell TMZ she's continuing on the path to a healthier life by kicking her nicotine habit ... cold turkey no less. We're told Lindsay quit about a week ago and now works out with a trainer every morning.

While LiLo has been adamant about not accepting a plea bargain that includes jail time -- Lynwood Correctional Facility ... her old haunts ... is a non-smoking detention center.

I think she needs to have been off the smokes for more than 1 week to say she's QUIT smoking. Getting past the true physical nicotine addiction takes a lot longer than a week.

This past Sunday was "family day" in VH1's Celebrity Rehab.
Astonishingly, Michael Lohan's stood him up in that piece.
The drama began when MiLo "wanted Lindsay, Ali, and the rest of the family to come for family day," says a source. "Michael even wanted Dina to come."

"They all refused, they don't want to appear on camera in that setting, period."
"Michael grew very upset. Emotions were very raw for him. Soon, thereafter, all hell broke out between other patients and families," the insider said.
Viewers will be in for "quite a shock when it airs," the source says.
Dr. Drew "handled the mayhem with pure professionalism, as he always does," despite all he has on his plate (the Michaele Salahi debacle, etc).
Celebrity Rehab 5 is set to premiere in May on VH1. As for what brought MiLo to the show? Anger issues. Yes, he's addicted to rage. And fame.

Mother of The Year's latest press statement

Lindsay Lohan is no longer talking to her father Michael, RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned.

"She is not talking to her dad now," Lindsay's mom, Dina Lohan told RadarOnline.com in an exclusive new interview.

Lindsay and Michael have always had a tumultuous relationship over the years, with Michael blaming the break-up of his marriage to Dina for his daughter's problems and Lindsay slamming her father for his habit of talking publicly about her.

And it seems Michael's decision to appear on Dr. Drew's Celebrity Rehab, to get treatment for his "anger issues" has only helped to damage even further his already delicate relationship with Lindsay.

As RadarOnline.com exclusively reported, Lindsay recently refused an invitation from her father to visit him (in front of Celebrity Rehab cameras) for 'family day' at his treatment center in Pasadena.

According to a source close to the situation: "Michael Lohan wanted Lindsay, Ali, and the rest of the family to come for 'family day.' Michael even wanted Dina to come."

But that's news to the ex-Mrs. Michael Lohan!

"I was never even asked to go to 'family day,'" Dina told RadarOnline.com. "I have a criminal stay away order in place. He can not come within 100 yards of me. I would never go to see him on 'family day', or on camera, ever.

"We have been apart for 15 years, and there are things that need to be worked out privately."

According to the source, Michael was very upset by his family's refusal to be there for him and he shared his emotional experience during the VH1 reality show taping.

"I don't disapprove of him getting help, but he has to be 100% honest or he can't get better," Dina explained. "My children would never go in public and sit with him."

Lindsay Lohan returns to court Thursday morning and is not expected to accept a plea deal in a grand theft case that would return the actress to jail.

The "Mean Girls" star has pleaded not guilty to a felony grand theft that was filed after a jewelry store reported the starlet had taken $2,500 necklace without permission. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Keith L. Schwartz has said if Lohan accepts a plea agreement offered by prosecutors last month that he will send her to jail for the fourth time in as many years.

A source close to the actress told The Associated Press on Wednesday that Lohan does not intend to accept the plea offer at Thursday's hearing. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of Lohan's case.

Schwartz will lay out the next steps of the case and may schedule a preliminary hearing during which prosecutors will present their evidence.

If Lohan is ordered to stand trial. Schwartz has warned the starlet that she may be sent to jail for violating her probation on a 2007 drunken driving case.

Lohan's return to court comes days after surveillance footage of her trying on necklaces at Kamofie & Co., which reported the necklace stolen on Jan. 22. It was eventually given by a Lohan associate to detectives, who had already obtained a search warrant for the actress' Venice home.

"Entertainment Tonight" aired the footage, which showed Lohan texting, pacing and talking to a store clerk for nearly 45 minutes. The actress wore the necklace she is accused of stealing for roughly 25 minutes, according to the show, before the clerk escorted Lohan out, smiled and held a door open as she walked out.

The footage was obtained by a commercial images division of the AP and licensed exclusively to "Entertainment Tonight."

The source told the AP that Lohan's defense team thinks the video's release and its sale will benefit the actress' defense.

Lohan's court troubles have long overshadowed her once-promising acting career. A former star in Disney films such as "Freaky Friday" and "Herbie Fully Loaded," her career has been stalled since she was arrested twice in 2007 and later charged with drunken driving and drug possession.

In the past 10 months, Lohan has been jailed twice and sent to rehab twice for probation violations. A judge ordered her to undergo three months of treatment at the Betty Ford Center, and it was within three weeks of her release that she was accused of stealing the necklace.

While the theft case has caused more uncertainty for Lohan, 24, the incident may go on to benefit others.

The owners of Kamofie & Co. announced Wednesday that they will auction the necklace and donate the proceeds to an unspecified charity after the theft case is resolved. The item remains in the custody of authorities.

"We have already publicly released the videotape which speaks for itself and accurately records the incident, and we believe the next step toward achieving closure is to donate the now-famous jewelry to charity," store owners Sofia and Geoff Kaman said in a statement released Wednesday morning.

Lindsay Probation Report: She's Been Drinking Again!

Lindsay Lohan's probation report says she's been drinking fermented tea that contains alcohol -- yeah, big whoop.

Sources familiar with the report tell TMZ ... Lindsay fessed up to her probation officer ... she was drinking Kombucha tea, which has an alcohol content of 0.5% or less ... and now the L.A. County Probation Department added it to the list of reasons why the judge should violate her probation and send her to jail.

Lindsay was so bold ... she actually left one of her alcohol ed classes clutching a bottle of Kombucha.
