Louis Vuitton F/W 09.10 : Madonna by Steven Meisel

Michael Jackson: especially these days....:(

since a lot of time ago he has been an icon, he's no more talented now or got special habilities only 'cause he's death. ^_^

and I don't think he would have been an option to star high fashion campaigns.

these ads really just push the bags. not even shoes! Madonna looks like she's wearing basically the same dress throughout the campaign.

Talent doesn't necessarily have much to do with being an icon. If it were, then Madonna would be a nobody.

It is about the unique and unmatched personality and celebrity you created and maintained throughout years and becoming a source of global debate and inspiration.

it would be the same for Michael, looking scary and decrepit like a monster could be not really a talent  but IT IS!

every icon is talented, even Paris Hilton. ^_^

They have a talent to unite people, and I am not saying MJ became the icon just because he was talented. There are so many other things involved in that process. There are only very few icons in every industry, and Madonna is an icon for sure, but she is feeding her fame with only tabloid stories or past accomplishments nowadays. Or so it seems.

Plus, the main question is, does it really help LV to heave her as the spokesperson? I somehow doubt it. Maybe Marc just enjoys her around, since they became friends real fast ever since she moved to New York.

This casting choice looks more like a designer's caprice than anything else to me.

it seems for you only 'cause her tours are always marvelous and best sellers.

In fact it was Michael the one feeding his fame with only tabloid stories or past accomplishments 'cause sadly he stopped to be relevant since 1991 ^_^

of course!!! Madonna sells, those images are all over the world in every tv show 'cause it's Madonna, if it were a young model it would be a simple fashion campaign, who cares about a nobody? :innocent:

I do not think Madonna or any celeb helps any luxury design company to sell anything. If a person is ready to drop 5,000 dollars on a LV bag, they are going to do it whether Madonna pretends to carry the bag in an ad campaign or not. These celebs only help to sell mid-level luxury and apparel items, like jeans, fragrances, sports-gear, anti-acne skin treatments, make-up etc. It is not like LV presents items everyone can buy, and Madonna is their selling force. people know what the prices are and what LV stands for way before seeing an ad campaign.

I think for a brand like LV, Madonna is just a source of prestige: that is about it really. I seriously cannot imagine their figures changing so much in terms of sales at this point because of her. I am not even sure if she is even a valid PR machine anymore.

This is the reason why supermodels are dead. But if this were true, then we would not need any models in the world anymore. Yes, celebs do sell, and LV has always associated itself with famous people in ad campaigns etc., but Madonna is also asking for some ridiculous fee at this point.

Oh Common comparing Michael to Madonna is laughable.
Madonna has made a career out of controversies and has been the godmother of everything bad in pop these days (britney, chrsitina, etc..0. She is like the Paris hilton of music and has regular stunts to stay in the media. I wish she would disappear...

back on topic, the ads are ugly and a waste of money. Bet she got paid at least $2million to do this.

It reminds me of Lanvin f/w 2000 campaign with Malgosia.

IMO the same idea. But I like it anyway. Madonna looks much better than the last time. What I don't like is that I can hardly see the clothes. Only bags are exposed.

bwgreyscale

yes but Lanvin was well executed in the "postprod'" process !

this LV is the worst campain I've ever seen !

they seriously need to do something ....

I find this post very disturbing. I absolutely love MJ music but his life was full of controversies too and rather unpleasant ones. Agree comparing Madge and MJ is not very wise because they are totally different but if Madge paved way to Britney and Christina, Wacko paved way to Justin Timberlake, etc. I do not like everything what Madonna does but her impact, influence, etc in music and even fashion is quite significant. And let’s not forget Jackson struggled with the lack novelties, etc and massive image problems, and it was difficult to relate to him because everything about his family and personality was rather bizarre.

obviously you need to know more about biznes ^_^ there's a real world called advertising, check out all the banners around here, that's how it works!

Supermodels? do you mean Claudia, Naomi ..? they are very alive and still getting a lot of work ^_^

I just have to agree, Madonna changed the world. ^_^

It's beyond me how this thread turned into a discussion about MJ vs Madonna. Totally unnessacary in my humble opinion.

I don't agree with this at all. To me Madonna is just an attention wh*re who has used the media to stay relevant. Nothing of substance.

But this is really off topic.
On topic: the ads look ugly and that is mainly because Madonna is in it. :ninja:

I was almost offended :(

Woah, MJ just got called wacko in a thread dedicated to Madge for Louis Vuitton.

Can we stay on topic and talk about how ugly and irrelevant Madonna is in these ads?

Woah... whats going on? This is BAD! The lighting is a disaster! It looks like her face is polarised, never a good look in my opinion unless tack is the aim of the photo.

Last season's was actually rather nice i thought, it was somewhat classy and fitting of the collection, even though it was Madonna with her legs akimbo.
