In the US, it's routine for employment. So if you get caught with a fake ID when you're a kid, for example, you get to explain it to employers for the rest of your life. (For the record, so far I have nothing to explain )

I'ved lived in the US my entire adult life and have never had to submit a criminal background check for employment although one HR manager let me know once that those are only typical for administrative positions with cash handling responsibilities. e.g. accountants and financial controllers.

Actually in some states it's illegal to require applicants to disclose if they have an offense on their record.

eta: also just because someone is arrested doesnt mean they will be *charged* with anything or found guilty.

Really? I don't believe we have ever had a case of a popular top HF model on here who has a completely different face than they did four years ago. I mean Daria's nose doesn't make her look like a different person. I don't think people here would be so into that.

Lola is right when she's talking about Gigi. Carine backed her well before her runway takeover. It was also Carine which led to Meisel taking note of her. Kendall was backed by Anna and Katie, not Carine. Not so sure about Bella as I didn't follow her career that closely. Just woke up one morning and she was everywhere. I actually like Bella more than Kendall & Gigi when it comes to modelling. She's not as blasé as Kendall, and doesn't act she's some Linda Evangelista incarnate like the desperate Gigi. She's just cool and confident in front of the camera.

I can see why Thairine Garcia is hating on Bella - bitterness. Although it's not Bella's fault that Thairine's big moment was overshadowed by the fact that she happened to be underage at a time when the industry began to impose age restrictions on models. And again, if you'll shade give us something we haven't heard before! Bella's 'transformation' is well documented, especially on TFS.

She became famous because of her personality, good management and big names obsessing over her. I still remember her as the face of Burberry beauty, the girl with the brows and I had no idea(i still don't have) who her family is except maybe Poppy. She made herself a big name but the other girls where already famous, they had connections but they also had a big following since the beginning.
I don't think bella's surgeries should be always a topic, she didn't like some things about her and she changed them, so what? At least the result is a good one.

Well Cara's godfather is an exec at Condé Nast so even though you might not know her family, the industry definitely did. Her grandfather was also a publishing exec from a long line of them, her grandmother was a lady in waiting to Princess Margaret, and her sister was already modeling. So not exactly unknown.

I personally have no problem with this, modeling if anything was an industry built for nepotism of all kinds (beauty is literally genetic), but to say she was unknown isn't accurate--though to the public, that might seem true.

The Hadids are not a famous family in the United States. Their mother was on a mildly popular reality show for a few years. That's all. Sure, they're rich, but at this point, Bella and Gigi are famous and successful in their own rights.

Kendall has been seen on television by millions since the age of 12. Her entire family is famous and known by the entire nation. It's a different game completely.

That is highly subjective. I have never seen a person with an obviously plastic face that looks particularly good.

I don't work with money, and I don't think I've ever had a professional job that didn't require a background check.

Carine is still very influencial in the industry. People just love her so, any model she decide to support will get the support.
It's not just about magazine covers as Gigi & Bella have usually been the faces of the brands Carine consult for... Or they got some campaigns/runway shows thanks to Carine's connections.

Gigi as the face of everything Tom Ford in 2014 is Carine. She is a friend and the stylist of Tom Ford campaigns.
Bella's first runway show was Tom Ford FW15.

Gigi as the face of MaxMara is Carine...
Bella as the face of Dior Cosmetics is Carine. She styled their handbags and cosmetics campaigns with Meisel.

Them walking Chanel is not because Aurelie Duclos finds that they are the best models ever. They are the girls of the moment and Carine "discovered" them.

Pierpaolo is the CD of Diesel Black Gold but because Marie Amelie Sauve is the stylist, you'll never see an hadid doing this show.

If you notice, most of the campaigns that Pierpaolo is involved with are styled by Carine or photographed by photographers who had shot with them previously...
Gigi as the face of Dsquared by M&M...They shot her for her Vogue Paris cover.

The thing is that a part from Kendall, no one knew the Hadid before. Maybe in their city, maybe in the US but they were absolutely unknown in Europe. Those Real Housewives ar not broadcast here.

Cara is like Julia Roitfeld or . She was known in the industry. The people who counts knew her. I mean, one day, Julia became a worldwide sensation thanks to her Black Orchid campaign...

You didn't knew about Cara because usually those types of families are very private. I'm pretty sure that a lot of people don't know about the connections of Stella Tennant or Ines De La Fressange.
