Prada S/S 06 Milan

All pretty excellent, if you ask me. It's very reminiscent of early Prada, in terms of both cut and styling - a good thing, in my book. The only weak point I see here is the eveningwear, which looks rather over-encrusted in some cases...and of course the shoes are heinous, but that's pretty par for course with Prada. ^_^

As for the criticism that Miuccia's somehow "lifted" last season's CDG prints, well that's really not fair - she was already using this print technique two years ago. Remember this...?:

this is from FW04. When did CDG start doing that print?

i do remember that drroogist...
and the technique isn't new...it's been used plenty...
trompe l-oeil...

but it's the WAY it is used and the colour palette and the entire mood that is created with it that is so reminiscent of cdg's a/w 05 collection...

someone even pointed out that it reminds them of a young miss havisham...
which was the obvious reference for cdg's collection...
it's just too soon for something so similar not to be a direct spin-off....

i like this collection...
but i have no reason or opportunity to dress this way...
few people do...
i liked prada a/w 05 so much better...
mostly because it seemed extremely accessible and still extremely special...

I'll be sleeping on this one...Boring color scheme, which is almost always the first thing I notice...Ive never been all that fond of the accessories line from Prada, but these are just plain bad...Yawn..

very classic prada: it proves that the best way to eliminate the competition's simply to buy them.

i'm sure the accessories will sell more than the clothes, but they're just identifiable enough to sell in key markets.

softgrey, O softgrey - I know what trompe-l'oeil is. I wasn't suggesting that Prada invented the concept or the technique. I was just saying that she's done it before, and that her use of it in this collection seems to be a pretty natural extension of that prior usage. So I don't think it's fair to assume that she's simply aping CdG.

but faust, i dont say this is right or wrong, its just what most of the Italian brands are doing, including Marni ..this is just a strategy some Italian houses have adoped to avoid total copies from chains like Zara, H&M etc, it is not aimed to other designer houses, its aiming to the mass market copycats ;)

Oh, I wasn't making a moral judgement either - just pointing things out :flower:

i am LOVING the bags and socks/shoes combinations. the clothes, however, though some have wonderful detail, i'm not *thrilled* with... they almost seem lifeless.

I just realized something while reading this very interesting article that Duleeshab posted ...

Aussie Gemma Ward model dismisses drugs

From:
By Natasha Bita in Milan

September 29, 2005

In search of simplicity, Miuccia Prada whitewashed the lady-like look that has dominated women's wardrobes for the past few summers.

Spurning sparkle, the trend-setting Italian designer paraded simple silhouettes in luxuriously light fabrics, fresh as a lick of paint.

Drop-waisted dresses, streaked like whitewash, featured pleats fanning from the back, or else at the hip. Sleeves puffed out of otherwise simple tops and unfussy frocks. Ward was not the only famous Australian seen in Milan yesterday. Singer Natalie Imbruglia showed up at Alberta Ferretti's show, shedding her trademark streetwear for a sophisticated black-and-white strapless gown. Later, she partied at the opening of a new boutique for Italian label Liu-Jo.

And so I thought, mmmm, what does whitewash mean? That is not a "good" connotation, right? You whitewash something dark, something "nasty," right? ;)

^ You whitewash something dark yes, the word always makes me think of the whitewashed buildings of Santorini.

The term usually applies to painting I believe.

I don't think it was meant negatively, because it's not a bad thing....you usually whitewash something before coloring it.

Ah but I have it on Miuccia's own authority that this collection is nasty ;)

I like the colors, some of the dresses, not very fond of shoes and bags, collection overall is not very impressive though..

Always with Prada, whatever Miuccia does, it always take time for me before I can appreciate or even love a collection, it has to grow on me. This one is no different.

To me the Prada look gives me either a woman with headstrong modernity or a girl with a headstrong modernity, this time it's probably the latter.

She has been taken a look in the archives and not just her own.
I can't help thinking of Louis Vuitton when I see the presence of luggage on the catwalk and those suncaps (I don't know what you call them), especially with that dark piece Carmen Kass wore.

i didn't know you were such a fan of prada....;)

:D ...of course you know what trompe l'oeil is...
i don't think i even implied that you didn't...
it was more for my own edification that i used the word...
*which i can never remember how to spell...

i still say it's too close for comfort though...
i guess i'm disappointed...
i was hoping for something more interesting and exciting...
i guess i'll go back to being anti-prada like i used to be...

*at least alberta ferretti was a pleasant surprise... :flower:

Uh what exactly is similar in those looks besides the visor? Marc Jacobs doesn't have a copyright on a style of hat. Come on, people. Yes imitation is rampant in fashion design but I somehow doubt Miuccia enters her design studio armed with a Louis Vuitton catalog from six years ago.
