Vogue Paris May 2014 : Sophie Marceau by Mario Testino

I don't doubt Emmanuelle is a good stylist, but over the years, it just prove, she doesn't have good taste and art vision like Carine did, Marceau had two very strong French Vogue covers and sadly this one didn't do her justice.

I have to agree with most on here. I like the fact that she's all in black, which personally correlates, but the opaque orange background just doesn't do anything for me. It's a bore to be totally honest. after carine left, there's not much creativity and freshness left in the pages of vogue... it's becoming very mainstream and dull

I love it, looks like a cover from the early 90s, saturated color background and all...
any members over 30 remember those? down memory lane :)

yes it's very 90's in a wrong way. Emmanuelle think a little, please, this is not cool!

VP is getting worse and worse. This looks like an 80's cover.

Emmannuelle really needs to go home.

I love it too. Well I'm over 30, maybe that's why.;)
I do not understand at all why people hate it so much, it's actually quite striking and it's totally different from what the other glossies are doing every year comes spring, that seems to be variations on the nymph in pastels.
It will look great on my coffee table.

I do not like the cover, it does nothing for me. But I'm hoping the editorials will be way better and the content will make up for it.

I'm just pleased to see Sophie Marceau in any capacity even though the image selected does little for me.

i don't see what's so 90s in here... really do not see it. is that because it is orange ? orange is the new black... ahah.

i feel very uncomfortable looking at a 50yrs young dressed in a going-to-bed/waking-up outfits...
i just don't get the cover. sophie marceau makes sense, as a french actress while it's Cannes' Festival issue (well it usually is Cannes issue in May). but why this outfit, why this orange background ? is that how Sophie Marceau supposed to challenge, stand up to men (that's what says the title) ? in underwear ? very sexist...

^Vogue Paris in the early 90s used to use saturated colored backgrounds. Blue, pink, gold, black, the classic white... The model was standing and the shot was full body or from the knees up. Not all of them of course, but this cover reminds me of those.

That is true. And more just at the top of my head I'm sure there were much more, I can remember two actual orange coloured backgrounds just like this one.

This is so disappointing from French Vogue, who is used to create nicer and fresh covers... This orange background is absolutely horrible, who does that? Orange covers?

I feel like they didn't even attempt to make an effort with this cover

What kind of introduction-to-PSP-class mess is this?! The orange is truly heinous...

I should mention that it took me 3 days to check this thread as I thought it was just one of her previous covers that had been "up-ed" :ninja:
