What to wear when you're a student

^Good luck with school! I've started again too and am falling into the laziness of jeans + hoodies. I need to get a grip. :P

i haven't started school yet. in my mind i'm going to be looking fab once classes starts - and i wont be lazy, but i know in reality i'll be the sweats and t-shirt girl once things get started. haha

The school year started a week ago. And yet, I still find I have no style and nor do others. It's sooooooo easy to just put on whatever is on the floor. From studying to attending class to socializing with peers to working to pay off bills and student expenses, there seems to be little time to worry about how I look. If you're a fashion student, different story. But for me, it's so easy to pile on sweats and sit in class. I want to look nice so I can attract a male, but it is so much easier after nights of studying and nights of drinking  to just go to class in what you wore to bed.:blush:

There are guys who like girls to look like they're wearing clothes off the floor--just gotta find one of them  You have low standards, right?

So here's me and my classmates at first day at school:

Haha cheers :D Although I'm the only one who's not wearing white-black hahaha :DD
it's not actually a theme, it's like unwritten dress code in our school...

Bloody hell, how'd you know? :o
Here are some other pictures from my school:

Consider yourselves introduced to local Lithuanian style: grey, boring and conservative.

you have the best outfit, duh! and besides the girl in the pencil skirt (who is ADORABLE, tell her she has an e-fan), the rest are so uniform. besides, black tights? total tfs, fashion savvy giveaway.

^ God, I love the style of your classmates! I'm so jealous! Thanks for the photos, hon.

You know, I was thinking, maybe people who don't dress well in college don't want to? Is that a possibility? I mean, this IS the Fashion Spot so people here are naturally interested in fashion and dressing well and all but there are people out there who can't care less what they wear so long as they're not naked and cold and choose to direct their energies into other pursuits. Why do we feel the need to shred them for their "unfashionable" dressing? I don't like it when people immediately think I'm vain and shallow because I like to wear nice clothes. So I try my best to not think that people who don't like to wear nice clothes aren't lazy or whatever.

This thread has mainly been helpful for me to find out what I can potentially wear at college(if all goes well, I'll be at college) but ever so often there'll be some posts that pops up that give me the feeling that what they're trying to say is "everyone here doesn't look as good as I am. they have no style. they're lazy and intolerant. I dress soooooo well, oh woe is me".

on a side note: Aqua Tofana, I :heart::heart: your hair colour!

^I guess I see your logic. But isn't that fashion in general? I find dressing well to school implies that you have ambition and self-worth.

I don't get the "isn't that fashion in general" part. Are you referring to people who love clothes and wear them well or people who find it necessary to put others down to feel like they're truly dressed well?

I don't really agree with the ambition and self worth. You can dress badly and still have plenty of ambition and self worth. There will be people with no self worth who choose to hide behind pretty clothes and IT bags. But that's just what I think. I'm not saying that we should all wear gunny sacks to class, I'm not even saying that people should all agree with me, I was just questioning the need for this bashing of people who aren't well dressed. It's immediately assumed that oh, they must be lazy. Oh they must have no style. And then almost always followed by something that goes along the lines of I feel so frustrated because I dress soooooo well and these people here don't recognise my greatness.

Look at someone like Bill Gates ... arguably a guy with plenty of ambition and self worth, and to my knowledge he's never been on a best-dressed list.

I'm completely with you on the judgment. There are many very worthwhile people who don't much care what they wear, and many who do care who leave me shaking my head.

I'm saying that judging a person by their fashion is not college specific. You could say the exact same thing at tons of other thread topics here too. Fashion is largely based on opinion and users can choose how they wish to interpret a look.

I completely agree that you don't have to dress well to have self-worth, etc. I was simply saying that most of the people I know who dress well do so because they are ambitious and like to feel good about themselves. People express that sentiment in different ways...

Shame. I've always been a fan of high neck brown jumpers.

University starts up again in about 10 days time so it'll be interesting to see what this years freshers wear :P

From my experience, most of the people in my class just don't care what they wear. We hardly have time to sleep. Last time when I called one of my classmates to go shopping with me she just told me she hates it, unless we go to buy some books :D. Most of the time I don't care how other people dress unless they stink, dont shower etcetc(we do have people like that here, and I am sure you know what I am talking about).

dumbfairy:My school starts on September the 21st, and I can't wait to see the fresmen as well haha :D

^ Yes, I used to work with someone like that :innocent: He sat three cubes away, and I could tell you by sniffing the air whether he was at his desk or not. I wish I were kidding :P

just curious - how many clothes do you pack for college/university? i feel bad taking a large (and i mean LARGE) suitcase full of clothes alone, but i also don't want to leave behind clothing i might potentially want to wear. i go to school pretty far up north so the sweaters/coats do take up some space. but i also feel silly when so much is in that huge suitcase and i STILL have clothing left behind in the dressers
