A Model Life - TLC Reality TV Show

OMG! Reading the girls' Myspaces...

Beatrice goes to Miami! She's in HK right now (hopefully moving on to Tokyo, soon); she's planning to go to Sydney. Her mother agency is in Singapore.
Lucia is in Korea. She was previously in Singapore and Brazil.
Michelle is still in NYC, but she was supposed to go to London.
Abi is in London.

here is valeria's myspace: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=63041852

i think we don't need to look further than these girls' myspace comments to find out who did not get a contract. [spoiler alert] valeria left a comment on february 22, 2007 on bea's myspace:
hey im very well! so good to be home! hoes miami??? are you living in better conditions now?? hows work.. i have missed quite a lot of achool work so im catching up at the moment and not doing any modelling!!
keep in touch
miss you

so are the episodes on youtube or somewhere because everytime i search i find nothing =(

Uhh. At first I was really mad with the *spoiler* decision, but I guess I can understand it.

I seriously think that men can really tell a model, because they do not sugar coat anything. I taped the show and was showing my dad (he was walking by) because he says models are born not made. And he said non of them look like models, he said it's in the eyes. I guess he was right, because none of them are going to work in New York City. Then I showed him a clip of Kim Norda from FTV and he said she's a model, it's her eyes. (And he has no idea who any of the models are today or anything about models.)
Anyway,
I was thinking though, if you look at Valeria's face, it is not very symetrical.
Lucia has the look of a doll, but doesn't have that something that stands out. And the rest are just very average, even Beatrice in my opinion now. I can see taking a picture of yourself and it not coming out that great, but the photographers know how to make you look good and these girls couldn't even bring anything to the picture. No depth in the eyes, nothing that makes you look and think. It was just like paint thrown on a canvas. And they def. spoiled the next show, because we already know that non of them are working in NY. But I'm not too surprised after watching the show. They didn't stand out amoung the other well known models on the runway.

ok- can anyone explain this.. on chic's website, valerija is listed as 5'11''. on tonight's episode, the people at jenny kayne were saying she was like 5'8''. i know agencies lie about the models heights.. but that is a BIG difference. she looks alot taller than 5'8'' to me.

Because she always is wearing those huge wedge heels or whatever and those high boots. She did not look tall of the runway against the other semi tall models.

angelika has been wearing lots of mike & chris jackets on the show, i thought she modeled for them. i checked the mike & chris website and didn't see her there. and then i came upon one of my blog posts from last month and voila! look at the pictures i collaged from mike & chris summer 2007 collection. i knew she looked familiar.

more here: http://www.shopdiary.com/2007/07/04/mike-chris-summer-2007/

they didn't get her back for fall 2007. i wonder why. :innocent:

She really annoys me how she models, it's all " free, willow, slouching, laid back cali style" I don't know, not very new york model style. And it's not like a good signature style, it annoys me so much! I was practing walking the other day, up and down a hallway. And then practiced posing and then the show popped into my head and I though of Angelika posing and was like UHH get out of my head!:yuk:. Then went back to typical ny/euro style poses, via Vogue/Harpers Bazaar.

Well said.

But your dad might have been pre-disposed to say that about Kim Noorda because of the whole conversation you were having and the fact that you specifically pulled up pictures of her to show him.

As for whether any of them would work in New York...well, a few of them already did get jobs in New York on the show. And Beatrice says on her myspace that she is due to go back to New York at the end of the year. As for the others...well, I guess we will have to wait and see what happens with them. Maybe they will only be successful in certain markets, or not at all. Or maybe one (or more) of them will become very successful. Time will tell.

The reason why what beauty in the high-fashion world means and what it means to men in general differs so much is because a large number of the men in the fashion industry are gay, and it's a completely different aesthetic. High fashion and Sports Illustrated are worlds apart, which is why everyone talked about how Michelle was very high-fashion and just can't pull off a swim shoot...

.. although, on the subject of Michelle, when I saw her in the first episode, I thought it was a joke. I thought they had brought her into the show to make some kind of statement about eating disorders by cutting her on the second episode after sending her to see the nutritionist.

Now, I've been around alot of girls who were incredibly thin just because that's just the way their bodies work--I've lived with a couple, seen the way they eat and their workout habits, and how they really have to fight to gain any kind of curves or muscle tone. I'm not one of those people who are so eager to point the finger and cry anorexia at the first sign of a hipbone, but from the moment I saw her, her looks just screamed "I'm a very unhealthy person." Not her body, but her face. Her skin is sallow, her eyes are very dark and sunken, and her teeth look very yellow and damaged. All of these things are some of the more obvious signs of malnutrition.

Now, I'm not a doctor and I haven't seen her or examined her personally, so I absolutely could be wrong about this, and it would be great if I was. It's just the impression she gives me on the show.

...models are born not made...
Hm. I don't know if I can agree with that. Sure, not everyone can model but I think it's a little of 50/50. To be a model you have to have something that stands out about you, something that makes people look twice when they see you in a crowd. But even then you can fall flat if you don't know how to model. Like your father said, have the depth in your eyes, and also be aware of how to move your body and basically become a blank canvas that can become absolutely everything. I also think that if you are lacking a little in one department, you can make it up in the other. Say you are pretty, but you can work it like no other, then you will be successful and vice-versa.

That's my theory anyway.

They got the jobs probably because the camera was around, free advertising. Fashion is a business like any other. I agree, but my dad could care less about models and fashion, I asked him to look at the TV, while watching FTV about 20minutes after watching A model life, because I wanted his opinion (like if he said that Kim norda didn't look like a model, I'd say well then WTF?) but he looked for a second and said you can tell she's a model because she has that look in her eyes.

See that's a stereotype. Men know what a high fashion model looks like and they know what a SI one looks like. It doesn't take a gay guy or women to figure that one out. Like said back in the 80's, models are like aliens placed on this earth, not like everyone else.

Sure. And a lot of models become successful based on connections or other factors, not just on their inherent model potential. The exposure that these models got on this show, the connections they were able to make via the program, may prove a boon to them and their careers. Or maybe not.

I agree with the comment 2 ups. I mean, we wouldn't me following the next moves of these models if it wasn't for the show. The show makes up want these girls to succed. I still can see lucia walking runway?!
