Christian Dior F/W 08.09 Paris

It's not bad! It looks heavy, but it's just a show. I'm not a fan of colours, though.. Galliano always like continuing some ideas for 2-3 seasons. I think the colour is one of them. Oh, and shoes look quite nice! :magic:

when i first saw the full show at Style.com the first thing that came on my head was, "WTF!"

Haha.

IT's Dior. Galliano can turn out sh*t and still be considered one of the greatest designers.

I guess I'm the only one who actually kind of likes this.

Looks Jackie Kennedy to me.

egad... i have to agree with everyone... oh so tacky.. why??!?! this collection doesn't belong in paris.. milan if anywhere.
this would have christian dior rolling over in his grave.. nothing is cohesive, bad... sigh.. how I love dior too :(

Do we really think that it's Galliano bowing to pressure ? Or is he just bored ?

This is almost like a Dior caricature , of the 60s of the tradition of the house.

Wouldn't wanna see either.
I'm one of those people who believe Galliano f****d Dior up.:innocent::ninja:

You're not alone ...
We had elegance, and now we have drag queens, ETs, prostitutes :yuk: They need desperatly a new designer !

it's galliano being a puppet.

i highly doubt he's bored. his namesake collection is getting better than ever

Dior: Colorful '60s optimism

PARIS: 'So full of optimism," said John Galliano, referring not just to the electric colors and bright prints in his Christian Dior show Monday, but to the era that inspired them.

In his jittery dance with Christian Dior, the designer has explored the full-skirted romance of the 1950s and the ball dress grandeur of the house's founder.

But from the first outfits of boxy jackets and coats in pink, orange or violet, with matching bag, shoes and high-crown hats, it was clear that Galliano had found another mine to plunder: the period after Dior's death in 1957, when the youthful energy and geometric shapes of the 1960s exploded in fashion.

The big hair was the giveaway. Huge hair, with eyeliner so extended that it swooshed into the teased fullness, where giant earrings nestled. As the models walked gracefully past a tumbling waterfall, they had a faux ladylike look in their square fur jackets.

This was not one of Galliano's soaring, creative shows that took fashion on a wild ride. It was more a crafty way of embracing Dior, while putting color, print and, indeed, optimism into the collection.

With "Mrs. Robinson" from the movie "The Graduate" on the sound track to define the moment, it was clear that Galliano had taken the period of Marc Bohan, Dior's successor after Yves Saint Laurent, and dragged the early 1960s onto his design desktop.

It was facile - but it worked, mostly because of the fine craftsmanship and the modern way that Galliano updated ideas of four decades ago, like the bugle beads that outlined jackets or sparkled on the smooth surfaces.

"It was playful - and I saw a lot of Asian influence," said the actress Lucy Liu, dressed all in white, although Galliano said that the chain prints and bold patterns were inspired more by Georg Jensen.

What was new about the show? The return of the suit, boxy in the jacket with a faintly A-line skirt; the narrow tailored dress; the graphic power of black and white; and, above all, the matching accessories that somehow brought clothes back into the fashion equation after nearly a decade in which dressing has been about a blank canvas to show off the bags.

Monotone color, from a wide Alice band on the head to solid shoes on the feet, looked fresh, especially as those colors were a dose of fruity Kool-Aid. A mix of lime and lilac in one dress; a suit the color of freshly squeezed orange; and another with marigold and fuchsia together were examples of the juicy mix.

Long dresses in vibrant prints, re-embroidered on the pattern, looked more like haute summer gowns than for winter 2008. But the upbeat spirit carried the show. And if it didn't push Dior fast forward, it took the house to a place in its heritage where Galliano has never been before.

I adore Dior and I adore Versace .comparing them? Never!

one of my top claimed brands and this is a huge deception
this is a really bad collection I liked like 3 outfits and the gloves but I need to see the details closer
the gowns are aweful this is perhaps the worst Dior collection

Versace is so stereotyped they have the most sexy and beautiful dresses of high fashion Dior have them Valentino have them pure red carpet material don't know why people compare these 2 designers with THIS collection but like I said stereotypes..

oh John....sure this isn't your season -_-

what's with all the versace bashing in this thread? the versus show was immensely better than this. i like one outfit, one, out of the entire collection, the caramel croc jacket and skirt, without the horrid hat though.

because we want to:lol: and because both collections are hideous!!! and I agree Juicemajor the last Versace collection was better.

overall quite boring.

i mean there are some pieces that were okay, but not my tastes. the only thing that seems to stay the same with Dior is it's outrageous makeup. <3

Marc Bohan must feel insulted...30 years of Bohan Dior heritage and he brings this...

not a fan of the amalgam of color, but the eye make up is AMAZING. It makes the girls' eye look HUGE.

Absolutely disappointing. :( Oh well, there's always Galliano to look forward to! :D
