Gucci F/W 2006.07 Milan

I'm honestly torn with this collection. On the one hand, it has all of the ingredients that make Gucci what it is, strong, confident, sexy clothes. On the other, a lot of it looks like someone did a poor job knocking off Tom Ford. I see a lot of his f/w 00 collection in this, the kind of over the top tacky 70's look, but not nearly as well done. It's not necessarily bad, but looking at it next to the original collections it just looks cheap....then there are a few looks that are way more skanky then Gucci has ever dared to go, that ruby jersey microdress looks more Cavalli than Gucci imo.

I think the thing that ultimately bothers me is that it's clear Giannini just does not have an individual and strong personality to head this brand. Her cruise collection had people screaming Michael Kors, then the spring collection was a mad mix of 2005 LV with a bit of Rochas thrown in for evening, now this poor attempt at recreating Gucci's earlier collections.....it's just not working for me at all. My opinion, the girl is in way over her head.

Does anyone else see some vaguely Missoni looks in this collection?

I totally, totally agree. I thought I was the only one seeing it. ^_^

I like it its sexy yes, its different from the last season and thats how it should be.

The complete collection its now uped in the Gucci web site

Everyone is comparing this to tom ford- just because it is sexy. I don't see that at all. Tom ford did sexy well, and i loved his stuff. However i think this has been poorly done, and is not sexy in a chic or stylish way. This is just tacky.

I am glad to see the return of the 70's, and hope it's an ongoing trend. I have hated this 80's trend ever since it began in the early 00's

Of course, you're right ...

This fast turn seems to imply that the bosses weren't happy with last season ... she seems to be at their beck and call every bit as much as the girl on the corner ... anyone know how spring is selling??? There doesn't seem to be any problem getting editorial coverage, and I seem to remember seeing a couple celebs wearing the dresses ...

So it will be interesting to see how the market responds to the Group's pimpin' approach to design, yes?

I agree with all those who've said this is sexy-tacky ... I find nothing to love here, but what's new.

After seeing the whole collection....I'm still torn. Part of me is sitting there, stunned that anyone other than Roberto Cavalli could produce such tack. The other part of me is loving it because it's pure nonsense, it's so over the top and so trashy that it's kind of fun.

However, I don't see much of this collection translating into the real world. Some of the floor length coats were great, as were the suits....but when your daywear section consists of lame microminis it's hard to see this collection being a commercial success. It will make for some great editorials though.

spike..where did you see the whole collection? is it up somewhere?

Wasn't there really no one else who could have taken the creative director position of Gucci? Was this ''bag / jewelry designer girl'' the only one who they thought that could pull it off?
This collection is just...it's terrible, cheap, tacky... I really can't find any other words to describe it. Like Spike413 said ''the girl is in way over her head''. I couldn't agree more on that one. She's really either very brave or just stupid trying to compete with her sex filled collection against TF Gucci era collections, That's like fighting with fire against fire, you just can't win.

I stopped buying any men Gucci clothes after Ford left, and I don't regret my decision a bit as the men collection wasn't that good either (but it was at least something different, John Ray actually tried something new with it.
What Gucci need is a strong, talented & original creative director with a vision, which I think the company's currently lacking.

even Tom Ford *cough* would have done better than this.... this is so tacky and unconsistent..... it's all over the place, no specific theme..... the colors are so in your face it scares me..... :ninja: who did the hair and makeup!? poor girls....!
