US Elle August 2009 : Miley Cyrus by Carter Smith

I actually think she looks nice on the cover - it's the best I've ever seen her look anyway.
But that's not to say I think she should be on the cover of ELLE. I don't see why a 30-year-old woman would want to read about a Disney star who is targeted at 12-year-olds and under.

ELLE UK has much stronger covers I think.

I am thirty and I'm not even sure who she is...

I don't know. I mean she is only a kid even if she says she isn't, but unlike alot of other people her age she is hated by a so many (as demonstrated here :P) and i think the way she deals with all the criticism and her life in general is very grown up, she definitely isn't a typical 16 year old girl and i personally have a lot of respect for her and think she looks fabulous on the cover.
Hate is a very strong word, one i rarely use to describe my feelings for people i have met never mind a girl i never have. And besides even if you do hate her, its one bad cover, you shouldn't waste time being angry over it she wont dominate the whole magazine or anything.

I don't dislike Miley. I actually feel bad for her at times. But this is beyond tacky and trashy. What she is wearing on that cover should ONLY be worn by 40-something cougar businesswomen trying to seduce men half their age. Not by a not even legal teeny-bopper Disney star. It reminds me of that one movie with Christina Applegate-Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead- where she is sixteen and has to go to work to support her family and impersonate a power woman. At best, Miley looks like a sl*tty teenager dressing up as a dominatrix for Halloween. And what is even more frightening is her docile, deer-in-the-headlights expression. It SO doesn't match what she is wearing! The pink and gold outfit isn't too bad though, much more age appropriate. Still, Elle is such a pathetic magazine as far as I'm concerned. Ever since they jumped on the reality bandwagon, I have written them off completely. They pretty much copy what was in VP two months before and try so desperately to be edgy and hip. They're SLIGHTLY higher than Nylon in my book. And the editors at Elle are such caricatures of what editors are stereotypically thought to be by everyone else! So faux bitchy and trendy. It;s just nauseating! *yawn*

this is exactly like what harper's bazaar did last month with an angelina candid. i'm hoping that the subscriber's cover is better, but it won't be able to salvage the whole situation anyway.

perhaps elle is meant to be lodged in that uncomfortable position between mainstream and high fashion... who knows.

This girl is going to get used up and thrown out...and that's sad.I know every teenager just wants to grow up and be an adult, and they do worse with models her age in editorials but...those models aren't selling chastity, virginity, and values.

the subscribers cover is even worse

I think this is her best cover yet, her hair and make-up are great...but I dislike the gigantic rings and what she's wearing...the subscribers cover is typical Rock-star wannabe it's just bad.

People can say whatever they want about ELLE but ¿haven't their ads and sales been very solid recently?...they must be doing something good.

This is so sick, ELLE is suposed to be a rather serious fashion magazine and it's true, they have solid sales but this is a complete joke to me, a really disguting and bad joke. Miley looks awful in the Rodarte boots shot and her hair looks like a wig. Miley should be the cover girl of Tiger Beat, BOP,Pop Star and other random teenager magazines, not of ELLE US! I dont know but if ELLE is trying to get the same recognition and acknowlement as Vogue has, they'll never get it doing stuff like this.
Now I'll go trow up with VogueParisLover.

Why is Miley Cyrus on the cover?!?! This is a very bad cover. I agree that she should NOT be on the cover of a fashion magazine!

I agree. I have no problem with her being on the cover of any teen magazines. That's her territory. But Miley on Elle just feels sort of wrong.

I just don't understand this? So Elle wants Disney channel viewers/kids to buy their magazine? Desperate times doesn't really call for desperate measures.
