US Vogue February 2014 : Lena Dunham by Annie Leibovitz

I like the composition of the shot actually, and the colors are nice, shirt looks good, nothing about this screams tacky or cheap. But I just cannot get over the horrible combination of Lena and Annie (who really should just retire at this point).

The cover is awful. Her face expression is awful. Her make up is awful. The polka-dot shirt is awfully tacky. The text is just awful. Is this VOGUE?

The cover story is ok. Love the bathtub and the Prada shots.

It's just... weird.

And that's sort of crappy of them to use Adam, since he's already been featured in Vogue, and takes away some of the spotlight from Lena.

The cover looks like a very amateur/bad version of David Sims's close-up studio shots... :ninja: the editorial has a great concept but she has such awkward faces in each shot... :ninja:
Anyway, here are UHQs of the cover and two shots from the ed! :)

Seriously, I'm just thankful kewkaw started a thread. I felt as though we were waiting weeks for this to surface, after the countless articles and speculation online.

I wanted Testino to shoot this, actually. Leibovitz's pictures have become far too retouched for my taste. Lena's arm looks as though it was removed post-production, in the shot of Lena on the bed wearing Prada. The location shots look as though they were shot in a studio and the background was added at a later stage. I just not a fan of any of this (besides the use of Prada).

Anyway, I'm hoping there are some nice fashion stories inside.

This is really, really bad. It's just so unappealing and not Vogue-worthy. In fact, she is unappealing.
The editorial is awful as well. Way to ruin a great Prada dress and omg at that picture of her sitting on Adam's shoulders :ninja: you know what I mean.

So bad, I think I'm finally going to cancel my subscription. I've never even had the impression that this girl has any interest in fashion and this cover could be Rolling Stone or Entertainment Weekly.

I kind of love this cover and the accompanying editorial. I just wish every time Vogue puts someone of a different body type on the cover it wasn't shot from the bust (ex. Adele). I think what I like most is that this cover is so different and that she doesn't have to smile and pretend to be America's next Sweetheart like most actresses on the cover of US Vogue.

that shot on the platform with the Celine coat  easily the best

Hm, this is actually not bad. I was expecting far worse when I saw the title. The styling and the layout feel very retro to me (not in a bad way).

I have really low expectations for US Vogue and it takes more for them to actually disappoint.

Not really liking it. She looks really ungraceful in the editorial preview. Like she just fell down wearing Prada and they shot the picture.

Really? Why not just put her on Lucky Magazine. This whole Girls "phenomenon" is so inside the NYC media bubble. The cover is so unappealing, like Mrs. Potato head level.

If they wanted a comical cover, they nailed it, it is a shame it is not in their favor. This cover is a mess; her witless expression, Charlie Chaplin makeup, and uninspiring styling. Dealing with Lena in any capacity can be enervative, but she was expected to land the cover so I hoped they would at least make it a good one.
Not only is Lena on the cover, but Upton gets a cover line. Looks to be the issue of the overrated.

They look fake against all the location shots, which I am going guess they were photoshoppped into. I can't imagine them going unnoticed shooting at Flatiron, with not a single candid photo surfacing online. Vogue, you are capable of better.

Lena's cover looks like a repeat of Leibovitz's 80s Rolling Stones covers.

It has been a while since I've seen Vogue let vibrance and personality shine through the beauty seen on the cover. Cate's January cover image was beautiful but flat, like most cover images of the past few years.

I am not a fan of the editorial at all, but instead of nitpicking, I'm going to celebrate Lena's appearance. I just read some sad statistics about women in the film and television industry:

"...women made up only 18.6 percent of executive producers for television shows in 2011-12, men of all ethnic/racial backgrounds combined, made up 81.4 percent.

"In 2012, men were 95.6 percent of directors, 91.8 percent of writers, and 80 percent of producers. This is a behind the screen ratio of 5 men to every 1 woman behind the camera."

So really, I could not be more thrilled about the cover subject. I know Lena is a polarizing figure, but love her or hate her, she is one of the few women out there making a huge impact in the industry. She should be on the cover of Vogue. She looks, and is, amazing.

(Oh, and how does Vogue make the February red/white theme work without being corny? I loved the feel of Debra Messing's and Angela Lindvall's February covers, and I Love Lena's cover too.)

are these UHQ? I click on the pics but nothing happens, as if they´re no bigger than the thumb (I´m using firefox btw)

I'm sorry imgbox.com is out (I don't know why), so I used this host and but I don't get it! But if you take the letter 'l' at the end of the link right before '.jpg' they turn into UHQs! I'm sorry for this mess... :flower:
