I'd use Mettchen's words... "drag queen extravaganza" Maybe it's all just a parody!:lol: I was thinking... how long do they want to put these old matronas in magazines? I can't believe someone can be curious about them!!! And buy it!

I agree. The editorial is awful and seems pointless... but the parody angle may be a factor. It's a bit sad actually.

However, I wish they put one of the featured supermodels on the cover instead, or even a few of them.

I take that back after seeing the editorial

Sure, it's Jurgen Teller of course it's a parody. At this point I can hardly recall anything he ever did that wasn't a parody, unless when YSL pays him to snap out of it. But does the fact that it is a parody make it any better? Not so much :ninja:

The cover is gorgeous, though, but this whole issue with M&M shooting Ricci to perfection (like Pop of yesteryear) and Jurgen Teller's aimless disfiguration of supermodels, certainly seems targeted towards keeping celebs in the ring.

omg---iluvjeisa---you took the words right out of my mouth......

yes it's a parody- an UGLY parody...
like MOST of jurgen's work...

yuck- you couldn't PAY me to let that man take my picture...
he specializes in making people look ugly...
*i guess it makes him feel good about himself...
so what does that tell you about him as a man......?

he managed to make christy turlington look like s*%t,
and she's gorgeous!!

stephanie seymour and shalom look the best imo...
but still not great...

Juergen took beautiful women (and I think they're all beautiful except for Cheryl Tiegs who I suppose has her admirers but I never could quite get what the deal with her was, perhaps one had to be alive during her hey day but anywho) and he made them look like rubbish. He pointed out all their flaws and worst of all he made the photographs boring. Dull, dull, dull and I like Juergen most of the time. I see his parody but this was not the time or the place. I wish Mert n' Marcus or Nick Knight had been given the task of this editorial. They would have done it right. I would have loved to see proper photos of these women particularly Christy Brinkley, Paulina and Pat Cleveland as it is so rare to see any of them in editorials nowadays. I really can't believe Juergen, what a waste of talent, beauty and film.

I don't believe that the original supermodels should stay in the past either. I think their presence can help bring a bit of personality and vitality back into modeling. These women have wisdom and knowledge beyond that of any of the younger girls and I think its wonderful that they are still going strong and/or making comebacks. I don't think one ever loses the ability to pose properly, that sort of poise once garnered never fades and true beauty knows no age in my opinion. What I would love to see is an edit that has half original supermodels and half newcomers or new supermodels. Perhaps pairing the older women off with their younger counterparts or the older woman could pick a new model they think is stellar and pose with them. A bit like the Versace campaign this season except you know...actually good.

can i get an AMEN lawd!

karma for you! i couldn't have said it better myself. i am appalled by Juergen's editorial. how often can we actually get all these women together in one editorial?? and in an important issue like the September one?!?! It could've been made into the most gorgeous edit ever if the right photographers had taken the reigns (i.e. M&M). it might have even made people realize WHY they loved these women in the first place and look for those same qualities (personality, attitude, confidence, life experience) in todays models, helping to usher in a new Super-era. But what he did was waste 25 pages of a perfectly good magazine. i'm actually ANGRY. its not the models' fault. they're all beautiful women, ridiculously beautiful in fact, its only because of Juergen that they don't look it here.

Oh my.. and Cindy needs is a mustache... horrendous...

Some of them look jail pictures.. you know the ones that everyone's ashamed of.. and here its in W!?!

What was the photographer thinking?

a BIIIGGGGG DITTTO!!!
you can see that christy is gorgeous (i mean her recent pics ain't bad at all) and it's like as though she's trying to shine through but is limited by the photographer. seriously this edit reflects badly on the supers, especially when everyone's all hyped up abt supers still reigning. it also undos all the good work natalia v did last month for W. just so W to follow a great ed with a shabby one:innocent:

from the earl grey lj...no heather:cry: maybe will see in the next issue

preview of W sept 2006 chris ricci, natalia/mcdean/bubblegum, kate/weber/detroit, 70s/90s models by teller, malgosia by M&M.

edit #1: natalia shot by craig mcdean 'bubblicious' right off the bat this is a fabulous edit. its ultra-modern even futuristic natalia is in a pink wig. the main tones are bubblegum pink & dreamy aqua. the set looks like a tokyo airport in 2050, airplanes, tubing like a space station. nativ was superb & sexy with mert/marcus in august W but this edit is maybe twice as good. when shes on like this, nativ can easily be called the #1 girl of 2006. alex white's fashion is superb, a combo of futuristic almost japanese bubblegum teen looks + super femme/girly euro looks like chanel taffeta dress or great chloe & stella dresses. you know that "harajuku" theme gwen tried so hard to hit us over the head with 2 years ago? well this is the correct version of that + much better clothes, model, styling, photography & vibe. this is literally a candy raver's fashion fantasy & if weber's kate edit to follow wasnt the best edit in the issue Id say this nati/mcdean edit is a contender for best edit of the year. this shoot is so brill in colours, looks, compositions, sexy nati, imagination, its just awesome. nati is an amazing model so pretty but equally deadly sexy too. rating 10 of 10, one of best edits of 2006.

edit #2/cover 'christina's world' christina ricci shot by mert/marcus. never been a fan of ricci [well buffalo 66 is a good film i guess] but M&M came up with maybe her best presentation ever. she has a louise brooks flapper black bob & the looks are very 20s/30s josephine baker/flapper showy evening looks: cavalli, 2 giles [best looks] blumarine. the lighting we've seen before- the natalie portman W cover, the drew barrymore missoni ads- but its atmospheric and does transform her into a beauty ingenue as opposed to the fat annoying kid she usually looks like. I met her at a club a few years ago and she was drunk and seemingly wired and also chubby. not good. her new film "black snake moan" sounds like poss her best film by far so I will take all this in a good way & say M&M are doing great work for W incl making ricci her best ever, even if she really doesnt do much for me in truth. cover is mcqueen fur she looks pretty good but somebody else will like this much more than me, I think the inside flapper stuff is better than this sub-liz-taylor 50s feel. still her new film is of interest & M&M did the best with her Ive seen anyone ever do. rating 6.5 of 10 incl cover.

edit #3 'welcome to the motor city' kate moss & a cast of hundreds shot on location in detroit by bruce weber. this is far & away the best editorial ive seen in any magazine in 2006. when i saw weber shoot yoko ono in august vogue -which I liked a lot- i worried that he wouldnt be getting these long edits on W anymore. well thats not the case - this is FIFTY THREE pages of truly outstanding, mind-blowing personality & city-scape photography. weber captures the essence of detroit, its urban population, its styles & textures & history since the 50s or so- along with kate moss at her absolute 2006 best. in fact kate so throws herself into these stylistic and cultural scenarios, her modelling is just better than any other working girl in 2006 STILL! I want to like julia or sasha or nativ better than kate, but confronted with another mind-blowing, peerless edit in W like this one, you just have to say that kate is not just the best model ever, shes STILL better than any other girl even now, 14+ years after she first hit. theres so much in this edit youve got to see & enjoy, but what weber does is capture the urban heart of detroit by capturing moments & monuments both big & small: kate plays bball with lindsey hunter of the pistons. rosa parks' grave. lots of church-sunday worship-choir pics. tiger stadium, set for demolition later this year. martha reeves from the vandellas & now the city council. kate making out with boxer j*leon love on the floor with LPs all around like marvin, ree, diana, 4 tops, jackie wilson [this pic will become legendary], drag queen toi alexzandried, kate with shelves full of soul hats/tams, aretha franklin in her own custom luxe clothes & lv purse, kate at the police hq, the famous kronk boxing gym/tommy hearns, Dodge mausoleum, kate on the corner with a pack of vogueing homegirls, kate at a ******/hipster rock party in marc & prada, more boxing, churches, poetry, aretha live, and finally Proof's gravesite [eminem's murdered bff]. the fashion throughout by camilla nickerson is genius, from luxe evening black minis to the most street homegirl styles, custom nike platform trainers, & also some retro church-worthy 60s black/white/skinny tie sunday best styles.
you just have to see this edit, kate at the height of her cross-cultural powers, weber perhaps the best fashion photog still, this is so far beyond documentary its a heartfelt loving soulful portrait of a city with a past that still thrives. this is by far the best story ive seen in any magazine in 2006 & it will be hard to top for edit of the year. rating 12 of 10. .

edit #4 'covergirls' juergen teller shoots models from the 70s-90s. what a bad boy this juergen is. on the one hand, he shows that women who were models in the 70s -early 80s like cheryl tiegs and paulina porizkova can still be wildly beautiful as they are 50 or older. however teller's photo style is so harsh, even 90s girls like turlington & carolyn murphy are given the raw treatment, his camera is sadistically unforgiving along with the operating table lighting and it makes the thick showbiz makeup too overt too. I love teller & I love the idea of showing beauty at 40, 50, 60 etc but his treatment is unforgiving in the extreme. well I'll just give my personally subjective view of which models fared well or worse here:
shalom. shalom is perhaps the best preserved of all the 90s girls, her work with teller in the dondoe/malgosia edit earlier this year is among the best of 2006. shalom comes off the best of all the more recent girls here she hasnt missed a step.
pat cleveland aged much better than janice dickenson but shes the least important girl in this group, as they present them.
rachel hunter I hated in sports illustrated, she & macpherson pretending its 1980 still. but rachel is excellent here a more honest 40-something mood & look & shes actually beautiful & sexy.
steph seymour. oh man. she looks so ragged & cheap here she is posing like a 45 year old french wh*re in her retirement twilight. yikes this teller sadism makes steph a wretched used up slutt joke. help.
naomi looks 10 years older than she really is. she is raggedy in the extreme & just gross.
cheryl tiegs is maybe the oldest here, or same as cleveland, and given that shes 50+ shes awesome, i like cheryl here very much shes still a superb model.
same with paulina porizkova. she might be 10 years younger than cheryl but both are still 'super' even if they never model both still maintain the 'magic' that made them 2 of the ultimate girls of the 70s & 80s respectively.
cindy c. she is so beat up & ragged in bottega you want to puke but somehow in the kors swimsuit she beat herself back into her 1990 body form. i dont know if its the gym or the kids or coke but in her own middle-aged beat up way cindy c still looks sexy in the swimsuit as ravaged & hollow & wrinkly as her 'been through all that' face is, and it shows. if you are a MILF fan you will see cindy c 2006 as your ultimate wet dream pin up. enjoy it.
tatjana patitz. her facial surgery is obvious- eyes- but for an early 90s girl she actually retains a lot of model pizzazz. its sad but its still good.
turlington. looked incredible by demarchelier in august vogue. i think that was airbrushed. tellers lighting highlights every bit of stress & aging in her face. her bones & beauty are still supernatural you can see the structure, but tellers lighting is so harsh turly comes off almost as badly as steph and that aint good. its also sort of sad and yet beautiful in tellers own unforgiving sadistic way. the ysl/myla panties lingerie pic is actually really sexy again in the most sadistic/MILF frisson way.
christy brinkley these were shot a week before the news hit. in 1 pic you can see the stress all over shes a joan collins ultra glam witch. in the 2nd pic shes back to her home making barbie fantasy. binky was good in bikinis in 1981 but thats a long long time ago. its just sad pathos now & it aint happy.
c murphy. topless with the obvious fake boobs & surfer bimbo tattoos....she should just put that honeymoon video out on dvd its a LOT sexier than these objectified-idiot-barbie-bimbo shots. ok murphy is sorta cute & sexy in the most dumbed-down way but these are likely the 2 worst pics ever taken of her- she has never looked more brainless or objectified. put the dvd out you look much better in the honeymoon sexings than here and more self-respect.
rating; wow. what a car crash-freak show & yet beautiful in the paulina, tiegs, shalom & even turly & patitz pics. ... 7.6 of 10 I guess!!

edit #5: surreal state malgosia shot by mert/marcus. the hits just keep on coming. M&M are simply the W mvps now they can do no wrong. they gave us ricci's best pics ever in this same ish & now they do some of the best malgosia pics of recent years AND some of W's sexiest pics too!! its a high concept, very germanic edit- the haunting evening tres luxe imagery of say horst p horst combined with the erotic imagination & fantasy of newton, who also combined glamour & sex like few photogs ever.
malgosia kicks aass here some of her sexiest pics ever. the nudes are the best a few topless -armani silk velvet stole- superb!! her aass looks awesome in agent provocateur & armani hat. shes not anorectic shes curvy & it makes her far more powerful here. and M&M's shadowy boudoir pics emphasize that femininity & mystery. the high style evening stuff is brill too very horst- cavalli ysl etro prada D&G val...the contrast of ultime luxe evening 40s/50s looks vs the boudoir nudes is just devastating...in some ways this is the most sensuous edit in the mag even if its more subtle or nuanced than the blockbuster kate or nativ stuff...just an amazing edit big bonuses all around to malgosia, alex white again with the world-beating styling & M&M coming through like few artists working in fashion/mags today,. another edit of the year...outstanding and so so hot. 10 of 10.

VERDICT: What a Sept issue!! mcdean & nativ take us into the future with their pink candy raving bubblegum & latex. gwen stefani is a clown, alex white & nativ & mcdean show how its really done. M&M shoot malgosia vividly sensuous with nods to horst & newton & highly suggestive boudoir lingerie & elegant evening looks. teller does his thing showing us supermodels from 70s-90s some still radiant others....less so. teller is a realist & his images & mindset are impacting, if not always pretty, depending on how you look at things of course!! and weber proved once again that he may be the best photographer working, a peerless detroit tribute portfolio that went to places that few fashion stories ever do- to the heart & soul of a historic & still-vibrant american city & its people culture style & love. and after all these years kate still looks like the best model, shes already the best model ever, she keeps throwing herself into every scenario like her life depended on it & her poise naturalism & passion was evident in every image of weber's extra-ordinary, unmatched edit,. its the best magazine story of 2006, in any magazine, in any genre. W is already my favourite magazine in the world & art photos models & fashion like this only make it better & better every month: THREE THUMBS UP BEST MAGAZINE of 2006!!

i`m so dissapointed same models everywhere:angry:

I am so excited for everything :buzz:!!! The juergen edit seems to be the only blemish on what sounds like a near perfect issue  I hope people take notice and start subscribing more to W

wow the Kate edit seems so great! I can't wait ! & the Natalia! oh gotta but this.

Im not in the fashion world--however much i love it and wish i was----but as a normal person I CANNOT understand the thinking behind this apparent 'parody'. Imagine if a photographer did that to you?!

i mean fair enough--haha---parody and all that w/ naomi and cindy but for the older models it must be just purely insulting!!!

I imagine there were many calls to their agents!!!!!

Terrible terrible terrible---can any1 show some of this photographers past work and shed some light onto why he's so great?

Perhaps there is some amazing editorial to go with these atrocious pictures?

  :yuk:   :ninja: :ninja: :ninja:

it's even scarier in the magazine, what with the large format.

if i'm rachel hunter right now, i am not pleased!

yikes. didn't they see the polaroids? does he not shoot polaroids?

jurgen teller for all his supposed hipness is really just a hack photographer.

anyway

LOVED the kate in detroit edit. loved.

natalia at the waterpark is so fresh, so beautiful. loved it too.

malgosia frightens me for some reason.

Shalom's top is so unflattering. It makes her look like she has three sets of boobs.

yuck!
