What to wear when you're a student

I'm also a uni student and I toned down the way I dress a LOT last year ( im doing second year when school opens). I went from living in skirts, high heels, and cute tops to dressing down in sweats, trainers and jeans. Even when I wore ballet flats to class once, my friends asked me what the 'special occasion today' was. One of my friends from high school even commented that I'd turned into a rather sloppy dresser. I even went without shopping for two months(!)

Anyway I want to go back to the old me next year, since I've done the fresher thing and made friends and all, so I don't need to worry much about what other people think about the way I dress. I was wondering, what you guys thought of, wearing this season's wedges and platforms to class?? Would it be a bit too much?? Since my wardrobe is virutally divided into day (class) and night ( clubbing), I wouldn't get much value out of my platforms and wedges if I only wore them out clubbing, plus, student clubs aren't that posh and I probably wouldnt wear expensive shoes only to be stepped on by a drunk girl. Was just wondering before I bought any new shoes.

So far, my list for this season is
- tan leather flat boots
- a nice warm trench coat
-leopard print something..probably something small like gloves or scarf
- grey socks something like the ones from Prada
- a cute beanie probably light pink

I'll probably think of more things later.

I think people assume you're dressed up unless you wear baggy, digged-in jeans and the uni sweatshirt. I like to be fashionable at school because that's where I spend almost all of my time and I like fashion. I'm a microbiology major and I have a lot of lab classes, so that limits what I can wear. I'm fairly reasonable with my choices, but please excuse me if you think that fitted jeans, a blue-ish button-down shirt, a black blazer, and black flats is dressy.

I think platforms are fine.. as long as you don't wear them with a tiny skirt and bare legs.

I want to wear dresses.. I think dresses looks fresh, going to wear it with flats or ankle boots and tights.

I also have a few outfits that i can wear when i'm not that inspired, dark raw skinny jeans, white shirt, pointy laced men's shoes... simple yet 'me'.

Dresses are one thing that I like to save for fancier occasions-I stated earlier that yes, I used to wear sweats. The tough thing is that my little brother (a sophomore in high school) lives in sweats and is to the point where he will not wear jeans, because he has to wear the sweats because he has P.E.. He does not believe in a seperate outfit for that kind of stuff, and he'll wear the same thing for days...I have to be the police to make sure he changes and he won't! And I try to change his style because for all honesty, he has none.

I have to agree that there is a fine line-you don't want to bring out everything that you have for school, but you don't want to wear sweats or pajamas. Like I won't be wearing my stiletto heels to class when I start in winter quarter, I save them for occasions.

As far as wedges/platforms go, I say go for it. I have several pairs since they are easier to walk in compared to stilettos and your feet won't hurt as much if you get a good pair.

I think dresses will be big this winter..I love the idea of working dresses into day...wearing them over or under sweaters, cardigans, etc.

Most of the time I just run into whatever I find next to my bed. Never sports bottoms or pyjamas though, at least old oversized jeans! I mean, there actually IS a difference between being in class and being at home on your sofa with your cat and a friend maybe, watching stupid TV and eating ordered sushi.

ha. i live in humboldt county, where Humboldt State University is our main college. infamous for our hippies and ahemm..greenery.
a lot of people around here just natural and laid back.
they really REALLY dont care about how they look. a lot of unmaterialistic people. but they look good nonetheless.
layering is key. being comftorable in what your wearing. i dont think you'd want to go to class and having to constantly adjust something and what not.

i guess whatever you feel most comftorable in is what college wear is.
t-shirts and jeans. comfy sneaks. i love asics. and vans (the classic ones wear you tie it). hoodies. etc.

Skinny trousers, tshirt, jacket, scarf usually
I think I'm going to start wearing skirts with thick tights though

ahh i'm so annoyed because i don't ever have the time to put together a nice outfit in the morning!! and i've started to not give a damn what i wear. i still love fashion so much!! that is what school does to me!

I think it'll be nice if you guys/gals post pictures of what you would wear to school. No faces required though! I'll be stucked in uniform for at least 3 more years. I wonder if anyone would dress like Iekeline to school.

i wore a long sweater, skinnies, and black knee-high suede boots the other day and it was pretty attention-getting. it's pretty much a sweatshirt and sweatpants campus with occasional jeans.

I would love to have a uniform. I hate picking out what I have to wear each day, or night, because it takes me like an hour to decide what I'm going to wear I have to do it at night otherwise I would be late for school everyday. It would make my life so much easier if my school had uniforms.

^trust me... unifors look really cool when you think of it as a japanese comic book...
reality (at least what i've experienced) is that you have to wear XXXL jearseys, horrible cut trousers, superlong skirts, oversized blazers, ETC...

I'm a fashion student and much like most of classmates, I struggle to find the time and effort to look stylish all the time.

In fact, those that do are a touch geeky.

We're students, we'd prefer those extra few minutes in bed, not the wardrobe! :ninja:
