What to wear when you're a student

I'm a law student too. I find most people dress really casually at my school. Jeans, t-shirts, sweatpants etc. On a lazy day or during exams I'll wear yoga pants and a hoodie, but I spent most of this year wearing skinny jeans, ballet flats, etc. During the winter I would wear flat knee high boots or Michael Kors Beaverton boots and a drapey cashmere sweater or wrap. No one else at my school dresses like me, but I think thats a good thing.

i am a nudist therefore i wear nothing...LOL jk no i wear jeans and button up shirts....to be such in fashion im a really plain dresser..

yehh same here, im always in like a casual skirt and sandals ana a casual tee shirt from american apparel. im really into fashion and so plain.

I go to a fairly large college and am majoring in fashion merchandising & design and journalism. A lot of the girls in my fashion courses dress very trendy (lots of leggings, juicy, hoodies, yoga pants, puma, denim minis, etc..).

In the warmer months I usually wear straight leg jeans with ballet flats or flip flops, cotton dresses, plain shorts and bermudas, and tank tops. In the colder months I am quite bundled up in my parka, winter boots, knits, lots of sweaters, and straight jeans. I'll dress down in sweats maybe 1 day out of the week.

mainly just jeans and a top, im not too keen on wearing the same thing more thna one day in a row so if a wear a top and jeans on monday on tuesday i'll wear the same top and a skirt or shorts and the other way round, same jeans with a different top.,

Back to School

In lieu of school coming back in session, I thought it would be fun to see what all the fashionable high school and college TFSers were buying for back to school.
Post what clothes, accessories, school supplies, etc. that you've bought/are planning to buy!

Sorry if this has already been posted^_^

I'm actually in the process of cleaning my closet, and taking inventory while I'm at it. Trying to be a smarter shopper, here!

Only thing I've bought so far is a dark green hoodie/cardigan, looks very grandpaish, but I love it. I definitely need to get shoes, but I'm not going out to get a thing until I'm done cleaning here!

SO! I've bought a ton of crap at h&M mostly what seemed to me as "non cheap looking" And alot of horizontal stripes, etc. New makeup (chanel) and a couple of prada pins from ebay...about 3 tottaling 94 USD after everything was aid and done. Also...Skinny pants are in, so in lieu of the fact that they dont really make mens skinny pants, i'm proud to say i went out and bought a crapload of womens jeans the other day :D. (Oh! and for some reason i've been obsessed with wearing black dress hoes in the summer)

mainly just pieces of paper to write stuff on...

i've bought a few sweaters already and a new messenger bag (Prada)

I need:
a scarf
more button-up shirts in darker colours
a dark grey blazer (maybe pinstripe if I can find one)
new shoes
maybe a new wallet/card holder
and school supplies (notebooks, pencils, pens, etc)

I'll probably go shopping this Monday, I can't stand the weekend crowds!

^Monday is a holiday though, right? Was planning to go to Yorkdale on Monday, but then I realized it was Civic holiday. Even if anything's open I'm guessing there'll still be a lot of people.

I need lots... a new bag or tote, couple pairs of jeans, sweaters, and then tons of school supplies.

Maybe it's only a Canadian holiday.

I'm also currently cleaning out my closet. For now, I'm searching for the essentials, such as black trousers, cashmere cardigan and long sleeves t-shirts. What I'm really looking for is good quality- I'm sick of having to throw out my clothing because it's being worn down by regular wear.

So, the list right now would be:

black trouser
cashmere cardigan
ballet flats with good arch support
long sleeve t-shirts (black and white)
different styles of blouses
sports shoe
pencil skirt for interviews, special event occasions

and I'm always on the hunt for those great pair of jeans.

I bought some new clothes for fall semester i can wear anytime even warm or lil cold and a nice leather bag i can carry my notes in. ^_^

I'm starting uni in Feb but am preparing myself clothes-wise from now... just been buying alot of basics, mostly because for the past ten years I've been living in a school uniform and have actually discovered I desperately need a uni wardrobe....

My List
  • Ballet flats ... another pair of black ones and some quirky cherry print Keds, Marc Jacobs quilted ones and patent flats
  • Oversized Balenciaga to carry textbooks and junk
  • Havaianas - yellow and navy
  • Shorts
  • My own "DIY" tees which are basically just plain longer length tees in every colour under the sun that I silkscreen with favourite artists prints (Salvador Dali), movie & musical posters(old-school Audrey Hepburn), music prints (like The Doors or The Beatles) and maybe an editorial pic or two... I've been doing this for years... and I love my tees... I also like funny kiddy tees like Charlie Brown or Babar the Elephant..
  • Skinny jeans in indigo, blue and black... taken to the tailor to make the leg extra-tapered (I've ended up doing this with all my old vintage jeans)
  • Vintage badges, brooches and silk Hermes scarves ... for tying onto my bag, in my hair, as a belt... to liven up dull outfits
  • A good umbrella in case I get caught in the rain
  • Tan flat leather boots (I got a black suede pair last year and I live in them when it starts getting chilly)
  • Shorts ... in neutrals, navy and a cute coral/watermelon coloured pair
  • Black Converse low-tops
  • Tweed single-breasted jacket, similar to this Viktor & Rolf one

net-a-porter.com
  • A couple Lacoste and POLO shirts in fun colours
  • Tommy Hilfiger plain white trainers
  • Cashmere cardigans in navy and deep garnet
  • Black pencil skirt - for dressy days to wear with a tee, suspendersand ballet flats
  • Basic underwear
  • A wool coat either red, navy or black
  • Warm scarves
  • Cream leather gloves
  • Cute cotton sundresses
  • Alice bands
  • Chanel charm bracelet and camelia brooch
  • Tan leather belt

I usually wear jeans and a top/t-shirt/blouse and sneakers or vans. I spice it up whith accessories :P This autumn, I have decided to wear more skirts.

yasmine-Dang. That's probably the strictest school dress code I've ever heard! There's a Christian school in my area where it's more liberal than your free dress days, as odd as it may sound.

My list for fall:
More funky nylons
A good pair of enclosed heels (all my heels are either too summery or stilettos)
Two or three knee-length skirts
A pair of plaid knickers with buckles at the knee
Skinny tanks in many colours, for layering
The Paul & Joe owl bag and blue kimono dress
A nice umbrella (because I will be using public transport a lot)
A couple nice coats-one preferrably in tweed
Some good Austrian crystal earrings and necklaces
A tiara (there's a specific tiara that I want, and tiaras are part of my style)
A couple short-sleeved polo shirts
A pair of neon Converse shoes, to be worn with funky nylons and a knee-length skirt.
