What to wear when you're a student

^ Speaking of heels, I have a friend who wears heels to University.. yeah, that may seem ok? But.. we're at Canada's largest university! Sometimes classes are far (think about the pain!) You can even take the subway to one end of the campus to the other!

Anyways, what type of bags/pack backs do you bring to school? Same ones in high school? I'm looking to get a large ralph lauren tote bag for my books:innocent: (I'm getting tired of wearing a backpack:sick:)

lol, if I go to univercity of toronto, I would never wear heels if I have to walk a few TTC stations away    .

I am in high school, I carry a roots back pack, sometimes with an additional tote, if I have that many books to carry. My totes are those you can get at H&M, large canvas.:P

i usually just wear jeans and a top and some flats... and a large bag for all my stuff and books

 Yeah, don't wear heels! I suffer there in shoes:blink:. Imagine walking up to the 3rd level of Convocation hall (by stairs) for your lecture:

And blocks to your class (if they're far apart) with a 10 minute break in between in HEELS. Kudos to those who can!

My fellow studenst say I always look like a lady-I wear expensive designer clothes like silk chloe pants, miu miu skirts or dior jackets. I just like to look good, especially since I run into the most gorgeous guy I've ever seen in my life almost every day!

I usually wear jeans, my loafers or jack purcells, a coat, scarf and some kind of hat. basically, layers is what I abide by, it's the middle of winter here, so commuting to & from college requires heavier clothing.

During exam time, sweatpants are more common. I sometimes wear them too, if I have HUGE midterms & need to be comfortable.

i've invested in a few pairs of nice jeans (earnest sewns, etc) and some basic v-necks and cardigans. I pretty much just throw them on before i go to school, and though its pretty much the same thing every day, i try to keep it interesting with colors...

pinkvolvo - I love the Pink Pony tote bag! Do you know if it has any interior pockets? The website implies that it doesn't. I would totally get one if it did, unfortunately I need pockets 'cause I don't carry a purse in addition to my school tote, too much hassle for me. :flower:

Oh yeah, as for my school style, I'm guilty of the "same thing every day" syndrome too, except it's mostly yoga clothes from lululemon. I wear them for comfort, though I s'pose they were kind of a trend last year too. Also for warmth with hoodies layered over tanks under my coat - I walk to and from school every day and wait for a lot of Greyhound busses out in the cold and freeze my butt off. I'm graduating in the spring and already starting to improve on my style for this summer. Lots of pretty dresses and ballet flats, probably some skirts and jeans and camisoles too. I'll save the yoga wear for working out and hopefully find something a little more stylish for next winter than hoodies.

As for the heels...I could never, ever wear them to school. There is one connection between buildings that I have to walk through every day that has a sloping floor instead of a ramp and stairs, it's a major hazard for heel wearers especially when it gets wet in the winter with people tracking in snow. Also...the ice and snow and walking to school. It is literally not possible unless I want to fall on my *** a lot or bring a change of shoes.

I have never worn tracksuits or sports clothes to school, other than for PE classes. It is rare to see anyone do that. I have never encountered anyone wearing pyjamas either ... wait, someone might have worn a pair to a Halloween party last year.

I usually wear black or grey trousers with a nice top. If it is very cold, I will add knitwear. I don't think the outfit I wear to school varies from what I wear outside school. Sometimes I might wear a skirt, depending on the weather and my mood.

As for heels to school, I do sometimes wear them. I'd like to wear them every day during the winter, but unfortunately I sometimes feel too tired to wear them. When it gets warmer I usually switch to loafers or ballet flats.

I like to wear comfortable, simple and classic clothing, to school and outside the school.

Ow I do always wear heels to uni, those really high 4-inch miu miu ankle boots...every day!

Oh it snowed here, snow snow snow

I have been wearing trousers, skinny cords, and opaque wool tights.

Riding boots or flat boots, but never ever fuzzy boots!!

Chunky knit wears, layers, scarves.

i'm normally torn about wearing sweaters and hoodies because it normally is cold out in the winter time and I have to walk to class, but they crank the heat up to 11 in the buildings so that anything more than a t-shirt and it's just too uncomfortable...maybe it's just me. Simple solution: t-shirt, scarf, coat.

When I was in France this winter break (alps...so it's coooold), I saw a few people wearing their scarves wrapped around their necks in a sort of ring (so that the ends are tucked in and it looks like a scarf necklace)...I've started doing that indoors (with a thin cashmere-like scarf) if it gets chilly or if I don't want to deal with the scarf falling off the back of my chair and all that jazz...get's weird looks but I've also been complemented so it's all good :-)

I tend to wear whatever I feel like - some days I feel expressive and experimental, and it shows. Most days though it's just jeans, flats and a top of some sort - I have a huge variety of styles of tops though, so it always looks different :-)

I love fashion so much, but I gave up on looking good at school. I thought there was no point because I didn't want to end up looking too 'try-hard'- BUT I've figured that I look even worse this way. Now I must escape the t-shirt/jeans/backpack look that I've been sporting for the last year.

I only find the strenght to get off the bed if I know that I'm going to dress myself the best I can.

I don't know, it's strange but it's true!

My university is in the centre of Rome. I go there on my scooter (very Italian, I know...too bad it isn't a vespa, but it is a piaggio one!) and it takes 30-40 minutes in the bad, bad, chaotic traffic.

Nevertheless, I usually go there in heels. It's normally skinny jeans, heels or flats or converse all star if it's raining, a big top/tank/sweater, lots of accessories and one of my gigantic bags.

People usually look at me strangely. Not too much tho, beacause no one here goes to the university in sweats.

They usually think I'm a foreign student  I don't know why, maybe because I either don't look very italian or dress like that.

Such a great thread. I always thought about doing a "Street-Style" for college students. There are some people I know who are very responsive to trends in the early stages, but very few that are really starting them on campus.

For me I normally wear black stretch pants and then three million layers on top so I'm comfortable. I think I was heavily influenced by the "JAP" population on campus, since we're all out-of-stater's with money to blow and I think the way I dress reflects that mentality when we're on campus. During the day I let accessories do the talking. Great sunglasses, shoes, scarves, hats, etc...

The weekend is when you bust out the great outfits. Those are how I would love to dress during the day if I ever had the patience to get ready for class. Its just never an option cause I'll sleep until the latest possible minute.

When i was at uni (graduated last year) I wore comfortable things- jeans, skirts with tights, lots of layers, flats, and yes, sometimes trackpants (common here). I have a lot of cute and somewhat quirky accessories, so they got a look-in as well. There's no point going to uni for 4-5 hours a day (and a place where you're there to learn, essentially) dressed in something that cuts into you or makes you feel awkward. Practical, comfortable clothes were a must at my uni- dirt/gravel trails everywhere, ten-minute hikes through bush to get from the carpark to campus, and having to run all the time from class to class so as not to be late.

It seems that in Australia there's a culture at uni of dressing down (or dressing as though you haven't tried- ironic because some of these indie-type students probably spent an hour getting that dishevelled hipster look) and discouraging those who do dress up; it's really only something done by first-years and only until they know better. People would wear office-y clothes or suits to uni but they were people who had just come from or were going to work. There's nothing wrong with looking nice, of course, and lots of people looked cute and stylish without much effort, but just as most people wouldn't wear a ballgown on a bushwalk, most people don't get out their going-out clothes or their five-inch heels to wear to uni. It's not practical. I can't count the number of girls (usually first-years) I've seen at uni teetering around in minis and stilettos.

Reading the threads it seems some people dress up a little for school -- that is completly foreign at our school! I wear jeans most of the time, sometimes a denim mini in the summer or shorts. On top I wear plain tanks and tees, casual tops and sometimes "spirit wear". For shoes it's either uggs or flat boots in the winter or ballet flats in the summer. I also have my north face coat just for school, I feel too dressed up in any of my other jackets. I feel pretty put together in school, considering so many people go it sweats and pjs :ninja:
