What to wear when you're a student

I love putting some effort into my outfits and feel my best when I'm wearing something nice that makes me happy so I dont really dress differently at school than I do on the weekends. However, since I have a uniform at my school I only get to wear my clothes every once in a while (on alternate dress days) so I can't wait till university to be able to wear my own clothes every day. But im pretty sure id never show up in sweatpants to class (which is what 99% of my school did on the day of the SATs - I had a nice skirt and top on) because i wouldnt feel happy and id do worse in class because of it. plus, i dont want to spend extra money to buy a pair of sweatpants when i could buy something nice instead.

just to clarify tho..i dont think there is anything wrong with other people coming to classes in sweatpants or PJs, its just not something I would do

it's not that we dress down or not care, it's just that we have better things to worry about than to look good in front of our classmates; like that stupid midterm i have tomrorow morning which i haven't yet started studying for!!!!!

i just noticed this while reading through old pages of the forum and i have a question, why do so many people think that dressing nice means that you are doing it for other people? for me at least, i find sweatpants uncomfortable, so the most casual comfortable quick thing would be for me to grab a dress out of my closet and step into my black flats. its the most comfortable easy option when im running late and it doesnt look bad either. but maybe that works for me because i dont have a lot of clothes and i dont wear makeup/style my hair, which makes getting ready very easy.

I wear the same things to school then in the weekends

^^^ I usually do too. I leave the cleavage-y stuff at home though. Unless I'm angling for a better mark :ninja: (so kidding).

I'm in creative writing, so there's definitely some interesting looks in my course. I like to people watch some other students for their outfits. Way more awesome than my previous degree (Justice).

Hmm....Usually, its just a pair of jeans, a tee and my reliable NorthFace.

I really like to layer! Like, sometimes I'll wear two contrasting tanktops and I wear a random tee on top.

I totally understand what everyone is talking about though, I can't even properly think in the morning--let alone plan my whole outfit, so usually I'm just like blahhh..I don't care..

Tees, shirts, whichever-jacket-I-see-first-thing-in-the-morning and jeans for the win. I have SO many pairs of jeans its not even funny. It's ultra casual for me at uni- although there will be days where I'll grab out my nice coats or I'll do the shorts-and-tights look. Scarves too. Shoes are usually Converse or flats. Heels is just too much effort considering that I run around like a headless chicken since I have everything back to back. But then again, I only go to uni 2 days a week.

It doesn't sound too bad, but that's only because I don't like in the dorms. If I was living 5 min from my classes, ooh... I'd be bring out my own pile of sweatpants... :D

Tuesdays and thursdays, I have an 8am art class that involves painting, so I usually wear my pajamas. Other than that, I tend to wear my dresses and even heels to class. It's good excercise! :P

^^ Ahh I wish I could wear pajamas to college

I usually just wear what I wear any other time, minus heels, that wouldn't be the smartest idea of mine.

I'm jealous of other girls who wear heels to school. :(

I don't know how they have time in the morning to dress up/match everything/put pounds of makeup on. I have a fifteeen minutes to get ready in the morning and I just put concealer/mascara on then I'm out the door!

I wear jeans and a t shirt because im too focused on study and what not to care when i go university all that will change LOL as for now i dont care about how i look for a few months

it usually only takes me a few minutes to get ready! dresses are easy to match with things! even with 15 minutes i can still put on makeup (although i rarely wear foundation, just eyeliner, mascara, & blush), make my lunch, and make it out the door!

I'm a senior in high school right now, and I wear skinny jeans / leggings, a oversized t-shirt or v-neck probably from American Apparel, and black flats. I do dress up on random days though, when I feel like putting my outfit together.

I cannot stop pressing my snooze button every morning and end up only having 15 minutes to get ready in the morning. Washing face, brushing teeth, eating breakfast, packing school bag, and getting dressed in 15 is a challenge, so I always go for the trusted jeans and tee look. And that's even without brushing my hair! Ha ha.

Student style at my university isn't very exciting. There are a few with amazing style, but at minimum 90% is just ... BLAH.
Comparing to the majority of TFS-ers who post their outfits here, I think the way I dress isn't very creative. But, comparing to most of my fellow students I think I at least look put together on most days: no hoodies for me.
My typical outfit alternates beween some kind of dress (mini or knee length) with opaque tights and flats, high heel but comfy booties, or black leather knee boots. I only have one pair of blue denim jeans that I wear regularly, and I usually pair it with some kind of feminine top or blouse. The rest of my jeans are all black skinnies and I tuck them into boots (it's pretty cold around here, I can't get away with flats that often).
I have several coats, but the really cute ones I can only get away with when it's not too cold. The other thing I really wear a lot is scarves, there's a lot of different colors and textures.
So my daily uniform is pretty boring, and I rarely wear jewelry. Hopefully, once spring actually comes around, I can come up with some more creative looks. Until then, I'm all about keeping warm.

I go to an urban commuter school. I just started there but I am always seeing people who I am fairly sure are newly immigrated stylish Japanese kids. there is this girl in my international politics class who looks amazing all the time. perfectly slouchy slacks and sweaters, perfect haircut. all these kids look like that.

I myself wear my favorite classically styled Acne jeans, comfortable shoes, t-shirt and Hermes bracelet everyday.

Overall, most students at my school wear jeans and a tee and Uggs, or a slight variation thereof. Another popular look is jeans tucked into boots/nice coat, which is a rut I fall into a lot, just because it's so cold and wet here, we need to stay warm and dry! Also have a giant campus so walkability is a must for shoes, unfortunately. (You can always tell when I only have one class, because I wear the highest heels possible to make up for my lack of style other days!)

A favorite look is a shorter dress, black tights, and riding boots or flats, with nice wool coat and scarf. Alternatively, blazer, tank, skirt, tights and boots or flats. (And of course, the jeans and boots look.) I wear a scarf almost every day, and have a few styles that I keep coming back to.

I can't wait for it to be nicer out, so I can at least show what I'm wearing (usually its just a pair of black legs sticking out from a coat, how chic!) even if it isn't that revolutionary.

I'm in the business school and the lib arts college (for history) and there really isn't much of a difference in style. I dress the part for either business (hello pencil skirts!) or history depending on what I'm studying that day, but it's completely unnecessary and I just do it for fun.

The common denominator for girls at my school seems to be skunky highlights, which I thought we grew out of years ago, but apparently I was wrong.

my college is sort of split between the prepsters and the hipsters. typical american east coast.

I usually wear either leggings, tights or skinny jeans on the bottom paired with heels, but lately, I've been wearing flipflops and flats. And large boxy shirts or tunic tops with either an oversized jacket or a cropped one.

I won't lie!

I'm a jeans and T-shirt gal. Jeans everyday and a plain T. Converse, Nike Shox, or DCs.

A lot of girls are very trendy, but the majority vote goes to the girls that wear PINK sweats and layer their T-shirts about 2-3 times.
