What to wear when you're a student

I need to wear school uniform but I love the winter uniform because it's really pretty. White long sleeves shirt, dark blue tie, dark blue and green plaid skirt, black long socks and black shoes. That's my winter uniform. And with a black cardigan sometimes.

guys, I need your help :flower:

I'm 17 - if it matters  - and I'm totally impressed by the Old Hollywood glamour style. you know - all these sequins, satin, cream & white, red lips and nails, gold jewellery and pearls. think Marilyn Monroe and Sophia Loren.

I know I can't wear that clothes to school (I'm in high school now) but maybe I can emulate this? where I can find inspirations, maybe there are some stars, who dress casual but glamour (I'm thinking about Miranda Kerr, or maybe Kate Beckinsale?)? and what about shoes - I must wear flats, will they be good?

thank you for any advice!

Maybe flats that are detailed with a pattern or something? You can always dress witrh more glamour outside of school and just do subtle hits during, like can you wear nail polish to school? The little things all add up

^thank you :flower: I think I'll try to wear glamour in details, like metallic bag, polished nails, perfect hear and lipstick darker than my lips color. and less jeans

I was wondering if there's a difference between how uni students dress and how art school students dress. I've never got a chance to compare them b/c I'm still in high school. I presume art school students would be more dressed up and put together than uni students since they study stuff based on aesthetics. What do you think?

My boyfriend's sister goes to FIT, and I have gone over there to meet her a few times for lunch. Based on my observations while walking past the campus, they do seem to be really put together. It might be because it is Fashion Institute of Technology, but not everyone there is a fashion major, or at least, that's what my bf's sister has told me. I've also been to her dorm, and her roommates love to get dressed up. They had racks and racks of shoes; I was so jealous. These are just some generalizations, but it seems that they are more dressed up than your average college student.

I've only been in art schools, so I can't really compare. But I think it probably is the opposite, art students being less dressed up. Sometimes it's a must when painting or doing other messy things, its natural not wanting to wear ones favorite clothes.

But for other classes, I don't get the whole thing about dressing down for school, or have slightly more formal clothes.
And only in evenings the clothes becomes more interesting.
I just feel it such a waste of expensive dresses and things like that to just hang all day instead of being used at the place on is the most, school.

Art school students are definitely less dressed up than university students in arts and sciences or business, for example. Most art school students I know are downright grungy, despite working with aesthetics. Sometimes it's because of painting, but they're not the most polished bunch. Most students in interpretive faculties are like that (think of poetry or philosophy students).

hmm... I used to be in a private boarding school where we had to wear shirts to class and prep.
At Uni. its much more relaxed ... but since am in a very professional course, I still tend to wear a lot of shirts.
I never wear heels to class.
Jeans, belts in various colours, tucked in shirts and flats are my staple.
Oh .. I add a touch of colour by wearing scarves. I have all kinds! Wool, chiffon, cotton, silk etc

i need an advice, do you think it is not appropriate to go to uni like this? my main concern is stockings

^ I would wear leggings or tight pants underneath... it seems too short for school.

I love that outfit, especially the socks, but for school I'd wear a skirt a tad longer, just so people won't you know, get any peeks.

I'm in high school and a lot of my friends come in wearing multi-colored skinny jeans and converse or skirts from American Apparel, which is REEEEALLY popular amongst private school kids in NYC.. at least in my school. The whole Gossip Girl thing is pretty unrealistic in terms of style. No one dresses in 4 inch heels to go to class.

Sounds exactly like my school. American Apparel is HUGE here!

thank you verene and haute femme, that's what i wanted to know

Usually, with the exception of the next few weeks because I don't start next semester til feb, I have no real free time. I'm usually at work or school or studying. I can't wear nice clothes to work because I work at a bakery and it gets messy, so I tend to dress up all the time, even for class since I'm not really going anywhere else. :(

I'm also spending a lot of time driving back and forth from two cities in Pennsylvania every few dats until feb when I go to Chile and it's so cold and snowing all the time in central PA, so I'm always layered up in whatever when I'm driving.

I wear simple t-shirt dresses + tights and flats.
I just can't wear jeans to school...they're uncomfortable and kind of cuts into my waist if I wear them for the whole day sitting down.

I layer alot for college now. A few weeks ago it was just plain cold here, but now its gotten a bit warmer but also wet again! :( I've started wearing these kinda oversized vest/dress things from topshop, which before I thought looked like potato sacks, but now I feel are more like colourful potato sacks!

These with a tank top underneath and usually a cardi, scarf and coat.. I do find I don't wear jeans as much as I used to, think its just you and me on that bandwagon Mocha_Love!

^I love those tanks! I'm thinking about getting some myself, but Topshop is ridiculously expensive for what it is...I think it's marked up in Denmark.
