What to wear when you're a student

I've just graduated from a five-year course, where I always had on a high rotation a few floral dresses, high-waist skirts and cotton tees or silk blouses. I made sure that the clothes were comfortable but had unique details- buttons, bows, nice silk fabrics etc. Other than that I usually liked to make my outfits fun with a couple of nice pairs of leather flats (metallic, snakeskin, black patent) and a large tan leather bag to fit my books and laptop. I couldn’t imagine ever wearing heels- my campus was huge, but I always admired the girls who could. At the end of the day I think it is most important to be comfortable

^ I walked a *lot* when I was in college ... I remember wearing oxfords, flat boots, loafers, & the like. Maybe a 1" heel at most ... On a campus where you drive, though, I can see it. (A few people did but they were always late because there was no parking :P)

A leather trend? this has soo not hit my uni.. though maybe when I go in on Monday everyone will be leathered to the max and I'll be so out of trend! Get a few people sticking those leather-look leggings on, but I think that's only really in the arts block..

I've noticed myself becoming a bit lazy when it comes too dressing for class. I go with a hoody, pair of jeans and sneakers. All my classes are early this semester (start at either 8 or 9 am) and I have two 3-hour lectures, so I consider is comfort over anything else. I would like to dress more stylish.. but at 6:30 am, the first thing I grab out of my closet is what I'm wearing!! :ninja:

I never wear heels to college. Jeans and shirts most of the time with a nice belt...since I am in a very professional course.

I had a bit of a people watch today.. there was only leather sofas, no leather people! but it was snowing today so maybe that put them off... Those funny hats you buy skiing are about though, and have been for a while.. Actually odd après-ski knitwear is a bit of a trend I think, not a big one but it is there. Cardigans and accessories especially. God, I make that Irish sound so stylish!

A pair of red leather boots worn every day of the winter might banish your depression for good
BF would banish me too

I noticed that a lot of the first years students dress so skanky - sequin jackets at 10 in the morning on a Tuesday and 4 inch heels to go with that...I feel old.

^ I'm not a boot person, but I do wear red shoes many days, and far from banishing people, it attracts them

^Oh I'm not anti red shoes,I have a few pairs myself, but knee high red boots is a little too excessive. Everything in moderation

I have noticed recently the style at my Uni has gotten better :D

I'm 99% sure that my shoes aren't what attract people...but you never know? :D

BF would banish me too

But I would still prefer that instead of all the boring stuff I see around in my college all day. It's al about grey leggings and fake H&M leather jackets...

I read this whole thread and totally know what everyone is talking about.

Dressing for college is quite a tricky deal.
You can't be TOO crazy/flashy/sl*tty/bling-bling--or your professors will think you're crazy and a giant spoiled daddy's girl, and you'll totally turn them off and can kiss a good grade good-bye.
But it's also so unsatisfactory to dress in jeans and t-shirts, and blend in with everyone else.
And I don't know about you, but where I go students bike everywhere. So mini-skirts are totally unacceptable for me.
Then when it's midterms/finals seasons, you just don't want to think about what to wear altogether...

I think I've figured out what works for me though--it guarantees an acceptable level of distinctness but also comfortable movements and, most importantly, ease in achievement.
And conservative professors will only think you're a teensy eccentric.
It's basically just: Simple oversized t-shirt (white/black), Shorts (neon, white, or black), Ankle boots, Tight black jacket (warm!), Scarf.

Another subject for discussion--do you guys take backpacks or purses to class!??! A lot of girls here carry Longchamp bags or big purses for their books. I personally have way too much crap to lug around to do that, and I do not have time to go back to my residence and pick up new ****.
Besides, Longchamp are way too popular. EVERYONE has carries them...

^ I think you should give your professors a bit more credit  I think they typically reward outstanding work regardless of their first impression.

^ haha I agree. Most professors don't really care or notice.
For college, I usually just wear what's comfortable because I'm at the school all day.
Cigarette jeans, over-sized shirt, and depending on the weather a leather jacket or cardigan. As for shoes, I normally wear a cute heel or bootie but since I'm on campus from 9h00 to 20h00 i stick to something more comfy... ballet flats, converse, or a flat boot (Doc Martens, Minnetonka, Frye). :P

Good ol' Jeans, soft tee - either or a flat oxford/boot or bottie if it isn't all to slippery out. Oh any my belts, lately I feel unfinished if I don't support my jeans with a simple, brown leather belt.
Just back to the basics, only more 'style' of it I guess :P
