What to wear when you're a student

I have no idea! I have no money, at all...

All I know is I want a pair of dungarees from Topman for €75 which I don't have. It's kinda bizarre as I leave school behind and start college I'm tending to go for more child orientated clothing, when all I've wanted is to leave that part of my life behind asap! My friends got me these great long-sleeved children's t-shirts in a charity shop in Finland, I'm wearing them all the time!

Perhaps I'll create a new trend :p l'enfant faux!:D

Citizen of humanity jeans, a cashmere turtleneck, leather riding boots I got in Italy, and a really long wool coat. It gets so cold here in the winter. :(

Hi all, so interesting to read what you guys are preparing for your "back to school" day. I've graduated from my unviersity this year and I will start my next work in about a week or so, and I am really confused on what to wear. See I am only 21, and all those years at uni I was all jeans and top kind of girl, I love to dress up as well. I just love floral lace dresses that it's not very flattering to wear for work !
I guess all I wanna say is that just enjoy your studying days and wear just whatever you want !!! Think about dress code and fitting in later !!

this would be my look the first day of school, im the blonde, and my best friend is the brunettttteee

College "staple" pieces

I'm entering college and I know it's going to be a wreck for me to choose what to wear everyday (I wore a uniform through high school). How does one dress to impress yet keep a comfortable and low-maintenance style?

If you want to share what you did through college to keep your style up and make it "look different" everyday, please do!

Plus I'm still shopping - recommendations?

A look always works well for me is jeans, a long/slightly loose tank top or tee in white, gray or black and a brightly-colored fitted cardigan. It's not the most exciting outfit, but you can accessorize it however you want, it's easy, and there are multiple ways to wear it -- sleeves pushed up to the elbows, open, closed, cardigan off in case classrooms are hot, etc. But honestly, pretty much anything goes in college, since everyone's just trying to figure out who they are and how to dress themselves. :)

Jeans are absolutely essential, get a few perfect pairs and wear them with pretty much any thing. You can make them look super casual or dress your look up a bit for days when you feel like it.

i wore a uniform in high school too, and when i got into university, i was so excited that i would finaly be able to wear whatever i wanted

anyways....the first week, i actualy tried, after that i just didnt bother:lol:

i personaly dont really care what i look like when i go to school, just cause its school, and im only there for a few hours anyway...so i mostly go in jogging pants and tees, sweatshirts or zip up jackets....thats not to say that i go looking like a hobo...i wear things that are fitted and clean....but yeah...that's about all the effort i put into it....

but, if you wanna be a bit more dressy...i would go with jeans and a cute top...jeans are comfy, and you can never go wrong with them...

Jeans. Shoes you can easily slip on and off. Cardigans, hoodies -- basically anything you can layer with, because you never know when the heat or air conditioning will be broken (or working too well!) in your classrooms or dorm. I wouldn't recommend wearing really dressy things to parties because they'll just end up getting ruined -- jeans and a tank plus accessories are all you need to have a good time.

I would say just be yourself, and put comfort and ease first. I never liked seeing the two extremes in class -- the students who would totally slob it out and would be wearing slippers to class and the pajamas they obviously slept in the night before, as well as the girls who would be wearing stilettos and a full face of makeup in a class at 8:10 in the morning. Both of these types looked silly to me.

Jeans! a good pair will get you far.
Singlets to layer.

I try to buy plain staples (that will last more than one season) and dress them up with awesome accessories :)

Plain tee-shirts. A bunch of long sleeve and short sleeve tees are great for school. You can also try layering them. They're casual enough to be good for school, and not too grubby looking. Just avoid wierd logos and prints.

And definitely get a few pairs of jeans that you love. I also like the idea of flats, because they're more dressy than say, sneakers, but they don't have that "I'm trying really really hard" look that heels have. :) Good luck at college, and have an awesome time!

ah! first day is tomorrow and up until friday i thought i still had a whole week till! after frantic shopping today and saturday, i finally came up with a look, super preppy, but i didnt really have the time to ind anything really interesting. plus i like preppy.

so...
tweed american eagel skirt
yellow and white striped collared shirt from polo (or black collared shirt from calvin klien)
grey crew neck sweater from polo
my super comfy berkinstock clogs

but alas! i just realized airlier this evening that they didn't take the security tag off on my skirt! so that outfit is ruined.

so instead im gonna wear my little sister's (she's in 6th grade) blue skirt and a pink polo. i have to hit saks and the internet asap

i didnt really "dress up" for the first day of school..

i usually dont dress up till around winter time..so like in 2 months...cause i just feel more comfortable in tshirts and jeans during the summer..

plus there are alot more options for winters (like layering, scarves, jackets, etc...) its too warm to do any of that stuff here in cali till like octoberish...

just my opinion though:unsure:

The typical student-uniform where I live now would be the straight legged/skinny jeans (both girls and boys), worn-down Chuck Taylor's, uniform-inspired jackets, messenger-bags, i-Pods (preferably playing some indie-rock noone has ever heard of)... Although it's nice to be able to go to school feeling comfortable and casual-cool, I wanna dress up! Somedays I get so tired of everyone, both the ladies and the gents, looking the same all the time... Oh well...
I think what you just described is the Scandinavian youth uniform right now. It's almost exactly the same in Sweden, and I agree, it gets boooring.

aww lucky ppl who get to where their own clothes to school...here in Aus, we have to wear school uniform...

I always wanted to wear a school uniform when I was kid (but had I worn one, i probably would've grown to hate it as I got older).:D

I've always wanted school uniforms, cause everyone would wear the same thing, but how you looked was completely up to your own originality to stand out from the rest.

would make it alot easier with no worries about what you need to wear!

Uniform Schuniform!

I had a uniform at school as well, being from the UK. Not that it stopped me from jazzing it up a bit. My school was pretty relaxed about it.
I kinda did this sporty St Trinian's look which seems so embarrassing looking back. I had a plaid skirt, thick rugby/hockey socks and a really over-sized school sweater over a white oxford (with the collars turned up) I wore some chunky big loafers, that were all the rage back then and seem to have reappeared on the catwalks for aw05. I then topped it all off with an old school adidas satchel and a Burberry short trench coat (that I stole from my mum!)

Verdict? Was my look embarrassing or stylish? Well I thought I was pretty cool when I strutted into school.....of course....I went to an all girls school and there were some sniggers and chuckles.........hmmm...........me thinks I was a little bit full on with my whole sporty uniform chic thing!

It kinda resembled this:
