What to wear when you're a student

heelp!!

hey all!!

Im starting a new high school soon, and I want to look fab!! If maybe you could help me a little, by posting cool pics or tips... Im really into the "young hollywood " style (the olsens, lindsay, nicole etc.) and model streetstyle etc., but I dont really know where to look, and I dont really know how to work it, or how to do it...

I would really appreciate if you (style-experts) could give me a small hand :D

hugs Tea :flower:

I don' think you should be asking these kinds of things. From my own personal experience, I think that you've either got a sense of style, or you don't. My mom taught me alot about style. When i was little, I couldn't even get a friggin tamagochi cause it was a fad. As you grow up, you'll notice that it's not all about the labels and the looks that everyone is wearing. Alotta the times, those looks look so foolish and dont even suit alotta people. And why on earth would you want to be just like everyone else, please explain to me? Trust me, you're better off with whatever you want to wear, not what all the sheep are wearing.

Tea~

I kinda agree with kween about the whole sheep thing. You dont wanna look tacky if you try to dress the way celebs do and you dont have the body or if your just copying what other people do.... just wear something trendy but with class, so that you arent labeled trashy at your new school

do what makes you feel happiest - whether thats copying the stars, just taking hints or scrapping it all by ploughing your own furrow. When you get there youll either blend and become jst another look alike or youll stand out and make a name for yourself. Do what you feel would suit you best and put a nice big smile on your face. Anyway you shouldnt really give a toss what they think. Use my mantra of 'what they think of me is none of my business'. I live by it and thats why im not afraid to step out of line!

teakrist-

if you do want to be 'inspired' by the celebs you mentioned, go to the star style section of tfs forums.....each of them have their own threads (lindsay, nicole, mk & ashley etc) with plenty of candids posted.....browse through the pics and see what you like......

but i agree-feel comfortable in your own skin and just wear what feels good to YOU.....and if thats inspired by mk and ashley, great.....but dont feel too much pressure....

just work with what you have, be confident, and realize that wonderful friends at your new school will grow to love you no matter what you have on.....

what to wear to fashion school?

i am starting fashion school very soon and im worryed about what to wear, everyone seems to wear very urban outfitter looking clothes but thats not my thing. i like more dressed up girly looks but i don't want to look to much like a sore thumb walking in in a nice dress and heels. any suggestions? oh btw im going to school in la so maybe thats wh every dresses more relaxed, i think im more of a new york/paris type of girl

honestly i dont see why you should stress over how youre dressed just because you are going to attend a fashion school. does it really matter

Honestly, I'm a fashion student, and after the first week and a half of classes I totally gave up making an effort to be "fashionable"

You'll have so much work to concentrate on that looking "cool" and "stylish" everyday takes a backseat.

^ Agree with that!

But also, when you do dress, dress for yourself...you want to represent you, not what you think you should be because of what everyone else is wearing. Don't be afraid of being different. I'm in LA and we're pretty acceptive of all kinds of styles, plus in a fashion school they might appreciate the different look you bring into the campus. You'll be fine, don't stress :flower:

thank you spike413 and sephora socialite! I was nervous to even post this because I knew some people would think it was a stupid question so thank you for your understanding! I guess I'll be fine then with the clothes I already own! Thank you!

Ditto.

After 5 years of FIT, I was living in jeans and t-shirts.... Of course there were days where I'd put effort into how I look... but I definitely wouldn't stress out about it.

The good thing about fashion school is that you can wear whatever the hell you want, and it doesn't matter.

thanks luna and the rest of you again this is really giving me the confidence i needed, the last thing i was worried about was what to wear and now that i have that figured out its a weight lifted off my shoulders. You guys are fabulous!

I've decided that being a student has ruined my style. Everything I wear has become so bland. My main problem is that the work I do for school takes me to some very...ummm...unsavory parts of town. Because of the nature of my work and the area I work in, I can't wear anything that stands out. So when I'm shopping, I simply cannot justify buying anything really nice...and it's starting to drive me crazy!

i can't believe anyone would wear their pj's in the street! that's a thing of nightmares here  you'd be a laughing stock.

I would NEVER EVER go to school in PJs!!!!! It's not done here. You Americans are crazy!!

Here it's NORMAL to dress up for exams etc. I don't know about uni yet though, my first exams are yet to come :ninja:

Come to school with their heels on and their clubbing clothes.

It's true, I don't think Pyjamas have ever been done, BUT saying that its definately not mormal to dress up for exams!!

I know exactly what Baby means about the clubkids, theres quite a few in my school and basically everyone makes a huge effort. When I started I made an effort too, but as the workload gets harder and the exams get closer and I'm more commited to my work, I've started to wear tracky bottoms (or sweats! if I were american) and trainers.
I've found that not only are they stress-free but that actually, I stand out from the rest of the people who try so hard to look like clones, with ballet pumps and skinny jeans. The thing is I really don't give a fairies fluff what people at school think of the way I dress and its wicked, I get to have loads of fun and wear what I want, I've got a pair of ice cream pink trackies and a pair of lemon yellow ones from primark and its so fun putting them with sparkly tops and the like!
All of that said, I just got cast as Charlotte Lucas in our college production production of pride and prejudice so I'm rethinking my philosophy hehe.

I mostly wear jeans and shirts and a lot of layering combined with flats or weird scarves and loose shirts. and they're already staring, so I think if I showed up in tracksuits or high heels their eyes would pop out. now we don't want that. they're prettier with their eyes in place.

I went out in my PJs when I was younger for a dare but I didn't stay out for long I just went to a few shops. I got a couple of weird looks though  oh well. I have a school uniform but I don't think anyone would ever wear PJs to my school. I just wear comfortable stuff for exams I don't really think too much about it.

Normally for classes, I don't dress up. I don't show up in sweats or PJ's, cause it kinda annoys me, but I wear jeans, a tank top or t, and some sandals or low heels. When I'm too comfortable, I feel like people don't take me as seriously in class as when I pay a little attention to how I look.

I don't dress differently for exams. If anything, I'll dress up a bit. It's a confidence booster that doesn't require much additional effort.

Exam study days (like today) are a different matter. When I do go out to run errands and such, I'll dress normally. Since I study at home on my own or over IM, I end up spending most of the days in shirts and shorts that are normally reserved for sleeping. It's not that they are more comfortable. Honestly, they're usually worse than my nicer things, but I hate to "waste" an outfit on a day spent sitting curled up with a laptop.

Well, I am the minority here, I dress up for school most of the time... I wear heels, jeans and cami w/ tank top under it, plus some fun/trendy accesories. I wake up early in the morning to get my hair and makeup done.....
I can't stand ppl who wears sweat pants, jogging pants, oversized t-shirts, I think they are inappropriate for public other than the gym... Just my opinion.

Since you girls don't dress up for school, then where do you wear your trendy designer clothes? You don't go out every single day or week....
