Who will sweep up at the S/S 2012 shows?

I think Evija Kreismane has a very unique look.. high distinctive cheek bones, a slightly irregular nose and piercing blue eyes. A make-up artists dream girl, basically. While browsing through this thread, she was the one that I was really 'wowed' by. She's beautiful and yet she's something special.

I'm betting on her making a name for herself this season or the next.

Harpers Baazar Hot list for SS 2012

Imagine booking a Prada campaign without having so much as set foot on a runway. That's what the Arizona-bred Kelly Mittendorf (bottom right) has done, and we're eager to see her make her show debut. Milly Simmonds is a redheaded Brit (top left) with a fresh-faced look that recalls Karen Elson. Then there's Dominican beauty Patricia Guerrero (top right) and Bulgarian Evelina Toteva, (bottom left), who's an avowed bookworm.

New York Magazine's top ten outstanding newfaces to watch for SS 2012

Models that earn as much name recognition as Arizona Muse and Karlie Kloss don't come around every season, or even once a year. With New York Fashion Week officially kicking off spring 2012 fashion month next week, a new cast of models will be dreaming of ad campaigns and Vogue editorials when the shows end, but who has a shot at actually getting there? Arizona-native Kelly Mittendorf was booked in Prada's fall 2011 campaign before she ever walked a show, then appeared in Italian Vogue. Dominican beauty Marihenny Rivera's bookings for the Yves Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton resort shows will surely serve her well when she meets with Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera this week. And Wilhelmina's Sojourner Morrell's androgynous look and Über-cool sense of style make her just the kind of girl you might see on a Marc Jacobs or Proenza Schouler runway. Get to know these faces, and seven other rising stars, in the slideshow ahead.

Aymeline is 25 or 26 if my sources are correct. She's been a lingerie and commercial model for years before the Balenciaga gig. For the record, when I was still writer for FDIB, I asked for some pictures of her and her agency was surprised I was interested in a B-list model... now she is close to stardom. She is older than the usual newbie but she works it out. She's got talent and personality that makes the difference. Not one of these teenagers everyone seems to expect to be the next superstar. Women like Aymeline are one of the reason I'm still interested in fashion and when I'm talking about surprise, I'm thinking of someone like this. More than 20, strong and talented. A woman that brings clothes she wears to life. Not another clotheshorse who is fated to disappear after one season and a half.
I couldn't agree more with your entire post, but this part especially. Once Aymeline came along, she basically ruined other models for me. Now nearly all new faces seem even more immature, shaky and ridiculous in comparison to her and her poise, grace and life experience. It's amazing what a few years can do, and I think Aymeline is the single best argument for not allowing girls to model until they're at least 18-20 or even older.

I totally understand your feeling. Once you get to see a model who is old enough to really add some personal touch to her work, you suddenly wonder what are all these teenagers doing around.
I don't think it shouldn't be allowed to be younger than 18-20 (though being 18 at least seems to be a suitable standard) but it should be something natural as womens clothes aren't modeled better than by women.

Also quite funny to read all these websites having their list of models to watch. Especially when you remember a couple of years ago this excercise was just some entertainment on TFS that no one considered as really serious, just a thing for passionate people. And now...

in terms of models we have heard of i think this season's front runners are going to be melissa tammerijn and carola remer. they both have been booking solid editorial work and seem to have the unconventional looks that casting directors go for when they are looking for "that girl" but, i could be totally off (more than likely, lol)

speaking of already semi-established models who do you guys think will really have a break through season? i mean we all have our favorites but who has been showing the potential to take it to the next level?

^What do you mean by semi established? New faces who did pretty well last season or models who've been around for years but not on the "top"? As for the latter I really cross my fingers for Dovile & Ben Grimes @ NYMM to get to the stage where they've once been, furtheron I'd like to add Annemarije @ Trump.

^ yea, girls who have done shows but never opened or closed anything major and have done minor print work but never a really big cover, think "filler models" rather than top models. like karmen pedaru before last year, just kinda there but nothing really huge going on.

I would consider all these girls as "filler-models". I understand filler-models as models who aren't able to stand out, usually good catwalk body but limited editorial talents. Some girls are around for years without being fillers, they seem just unlucky for various parameters (like trends and general casting directors liking, school schedules, private life, change in their looks, change in the orientation of their career, wrong management and so on). Two good examples of this might be Arizona Muse (first concentrated on commercial things, then had her baby, then change her haircut and finally her vibe was in tune with the wave of the moment) and especially Aymeline Valade (only working on commercial side first, then she had a chance at one big show when mood wasn't only concentrated on very young models anymore). There are legions of other examples from the pure-commercial babes turned into HF covergirls to the more or less successful come backs (I think Jamie Bochert isn't a bad example of this). But all in all, every situation can happen if all falls into place at the right minute.
As much as luck is an important parameter as well but one has to take her chance and once luck knocks at her door, she has (and her managers) to know how to handle it and push it to the next level. Filler-models can be lucky too, sometimes but their lucky star quickly fades away (first example I can think of is Sona Matufkova).
So, in the end talent and perseverance are the key points for me. Then luck. The first two might lead to nowhere close to stardom (though it's not necessary an ordeal to live if commercial jobs comes along anonymous modeling). But if they match a lucky moment -- bingo!

I'm surprised no ones mentioned Rose Smith from Australia yet! Last season she had a Fendi exclusive in Milan and a Chanel exclusive in Paris, and then she walked for Chanel haute couture. She has a great look so I hope she has a HUGE season!

I'm extra excited to see who the rising stars of New York Fashion Week will be since there is an abundance of striking girls, well, in my opinion anyway; Ford, IMG and Women in particular have quite interesting girls, not to say they're the only agencies that have worthy girls.

Here are some girls who haven't been posted that have caught my eye:

Blanca @ Ford: I think she she's quite striking and could be quite a versatile performer on the runway.

Senait @ IMG: Absolutely gorgeous girl with a great body. I think she has the potential to accomplish something noteworthy.

Valerija Sestic @ Women: I think she's my favourite new face going into this season; I'm hoping she does well.

Morgane Warnier @ Silent: She has one of the best face I've ever seen, ever.

Dana Taylor @ IMG: Perhaps not the edgiest or most charismatic print model, but I think Dana is quite dreamy-looking and looks very much like an American, 90s supermodel.

Zuri Tibby @ Ford: I think Zuri is heaps cute; she has a lovely, kind of heart-shaped face and good height/proportions.

Terese Pagh Teglgaard @ Marilyn: I think it could go either way for Terese; I'd liken her to a more mature version of what Daphne and Hailey represent, but it wouldn't surprise me if casting directors found her too conventionally attractive.

Women have signed a handful of new faces that have caught my eye over the past months and I'm wondering if the agency will be able to launch them as successfully as they have with other new girls (Britt Maren, etc).

Also, I'm not quite so certain many of the girls who have debuted in high-profile print work will have the most spectacular show season.

Neither I am. Debuting in a major campaign seems not be the new runway exclusive. I don't see much in the new Prada girls, from both campaign and Resort. Julia has a very, very interesting face, still no presence in print and on the runway. But that Mittendorf has something... And Sojourner too. I kind of like Morgane Warnier too, not a favourite but I don't mind her. Her eyes a pretty dull, not so expressive.

My favorite new girl is definitely Court (Courteney Yakabuski). I'm not sure she has the right look to blow up this season, but I'm definitely rooting for her!

ooh therese shows alot of promise. if it were up to me i would have her edge it up a bit. either go darker or lighter with the hair because the pretty honey-blonde girl thing is getting a bit stale.

New Girls: I believe DNA has a pretty solid list of girls who seem very promising.

Returning Top Newcomers: Zuzanna, Aymeline, Emily, and a lot of the new girls who did well last season will repeat I believe.

Top Girls Returning: Bette, Hilary, Tanya, Marija, Anne Mariya (depending on if they show up)

Anais Mali, imo, is poised for a major breakthrough this season. She is having an amazing season editorially.

Marta Ortiz she's in NY for the NYFW, she's with Marilyn and she has showcard

Anais really caught my eye in the SHOWstudio/Emanuel Ungaro video! I really hope she has a big breakthrough this season too. She's been sitting at 49 on MDC Top 50 for a while and if she doesn't have a great season I know she'll disappear soon enough.

My prediction:
Krystal Glynn, Meaghan Waller, Jess Gold, Cora Keegan, Court Yakabuski, Josilyn Williams, Chrystal Copland, Eliza Humble and Sarah Kees will make impressive debuts.
Rose Smith, Dempsey Stewart, Emily Baker, Codie Young, Daga Ziober, Xiao Wen Ju, Leila Jay and Ruby-Jean Wilson will continue to do well or even better than last season.
Cat McNeil will show up in New York, but will do better in Europe.
