The lack of models of color was atrocious obviously, but I feel like the casting made sense! Gucci has a new direction and it is logical that it will bring with it a new Gucci woman/girl. Same as many brands who got new creative directors recently.

I just remembered this article from BoF that was posted in the Racial Diversity in Modeling thread a couple of years ago.

The last paragraph is especially interesting. What's their excuse now that Gucci isn't sexy at all anymore?

As if Gucci is the bastion of diversity with their castings. They have always had a token Black girl and Asian girl. Joan is the only model they used beyond the runway. Now that there is no token black/asian model that matches the new aesthetic, Gucci is racist/anti-diversity. Really?

I adore, Madison, Grace H, Grace S, Finnlay and some of the other models in the show, I don't think it's their fault that they were cast and then styled into that travesty.

My favorite review of the show was from Morphe who said,

" Oh I know what the new "Gucci woman" is.. What the Slimane woman would be if she were a pretentious hipster and not a wasted teen prostitute."
