Skinny jeans for men... Coming to an end?

Most jeans and pants for guys are usually tailored for most average builds, larger sizes, and stuff like that. There have been a few guys I've seen at school that have skinny legs and even wear skinny jeans. It was because of this that I've read about men wearing women's jeans. The reason is that there isn't a definite fit for most men that don't have the sort of average builds. Take me, for instance. I have an average build, but have a pot belly. I couldn't see myself wearing any sort of skinny jeans even if ladies who don't have skinny legs tried wearing these. If skinny jeans and pants for men come to an end... I'd actually be disappointed. It would mean that guys have to try to find the best-fitting jeans for men who may not have muscular legs... or of course, go back to girls' jeans.

There is always an ideal feature to everything. Most clothes are usually catered to ideal styles and those above or below ideals. Most men's clothing is usually around a guy who probably has an average or muscular build, while most women's clothing is usually catered to more slender body types. You do have your designers who either specialize or provide clothing for various body types. More full-figured ladies would usually shop Lane Bryant, and bigger males usually have Casual Male or Big and Tall. But what about when there isn't any (or not enough) designers taking part in various other body styles? It can be pretty frustrating to be a male with skinny legs and not have the best-fitting jeans available. One guy I know usually wears skinny jeans topped off by huge sneakers. Almost looks a bit feminine, but all-guy for what I know. I can understand skinny guys not having a great pair of skinny jeans to wear to compliment their bodies. So for this reason, I'm hoping skinny jeans don't go out of style for men. I have seen some ladies look lovely in skinny jeans, so I'm sure skinnies for men aren't going to go away anytime soon. So fear not.

I hope they don't disappear. It feels wrong to wear anything else. And I love the whole rocker feel it gives you to wear them.I'm fine with baggy pants still existing ,but I hope skinnies and baggies can just coexist and not replace one another.

@Coulbourne:

Are A&F boxers more comfortable or something? Because I've always wondered why people pay $15+ for a single pair of underwear. Is it mainly brand recognition you buy them for, and if that's the case do you feel obliged to low ride so people see the logos?

I'm asking seriously here, I've always wondered. :flower:

I'm not a rock music fanatic. I didn't exclusively have rock in mind in defending skinny jeans for men.

nowadays it isnt but it was limited to the punk rock scene in the 60s and 70s

the word camel tail makes me slightly ill.
i want to find this person who starts the 'skinny jeans is over' thing every few months or so, it's tiresome as hell. accept it, they're here. 'trends' die, these have been around forever.

I don't follow or (I'm going to get railed by some of you) care about rock culture. You're not going to see me make an butt out of myself playing "Guitar Hero" or sport shirts and gear devoted to some rock group or rock artist. I did not have rock music in mind in regards to skinny jeans. I know everyone (generalization) should know and understand rock music, otherwise, you're just a nobody. I know I read that some men in rock wore women's jeans. Beyond that, my knowledge is severely limited.

I've just defended skinny jeans because I know there are some guys who like the fit with skinny jeans than traditional baggy jeans. I don't know... would you guys ever revolt if the big designers don't make men's skinny jeans available anymore? Wear whatever you want. I just want these jeans to stay around for men's body styles who don't have much fit with average jeans. As much as I love a wonderfully-dressed femme, I want my own guys to feel great in whatever they wear as well.

its more punk anyway
my friends all wear skinny jeans and none of them plays 'Guitar Hero' and they hardly ever wear band shirts/gear...

YSL fw09

these are just examples.
and i think this is more because menswear want to adress now more to 30yrs old people.... and not only young people....
honestly when you're more than 35yrs old i think a skinny looks ridiculous.... esp. when this is not your style at all (i.e : when you're not a fan of the Ramones....)

well IMO those pants ^^ look even more ridiculous even on 30+ year olds

No shade, but if you have a gut, paunch, bloat, you should not be wearing skinny jeans or tight jeans period. Stick to baggy or bootcut.

Where do you live? Because in most of the major cities in the US and elsewhere, everyone is wearing them. Perhaps your perception that they are emo/scene makes you assume the people wearing them are as well?
I live in Miami, Florida, which is a very fashion-conscious city of the US.

when I wear my skinny -cheapmonday- jeans I feel very 2004-05 actually, it's not a good thing.

Really? Why is that? I've wanted to get skinny Cheap Mondays for a while, even though I've heard the knees bunch up a lot.

Thing is, mens fashion and womens fashion are different in one big aspect; trends and fads are much more dominant in women's fashion than men's, especially since I'd say the 1950's and the mainstreaming of jeans. Trends last longer in the men's fashion world, and there's a good chance that, like baggy jeans, skinny jeans may just become a bit less skinny, but they'll certainly still be around years from now.

^^i think so too...considering its more of a trend for women to wear them, since men have been wearing them for decades

Previously, everyone(including me) had skinny black CMjeans in sthlm, so it became blasé. Yes, the jeans are made of cheap garments, bad quality. Now I wear a pair by Helmut Lang and a beautiful pair by Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair.
