US Vogue September 2012 : Lady Gaga by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott

I also can't believe THIS is their big "anniversary/september issue" cover. I'm not sure if I should laugh at this mess or cry of disappointment.

She looks like a drawing on the cover, which I like. I also like the lack of text, sorta. The thing I don´t get no matter how many times I stare at the cover is the banner in the masthead... W-T-H?!

Apart from the first one all the pictures are just awful... 120 years of Vogue shouldn't have gone to Gaga anyway... There is nothing individual about her except from the fact that she combines her inspirations or wears something ridiculous... But i guess from tha business point of view it makes sense...

I think those pictures for the supposed editorial are really bad. Gaga looks utterly gorgeous in them, it's just hta tthe styling is so ugly. They keep covering editorials with LV and Marc Jacobs F12, which are both terrible collections and most of those looks are Marc Jacobs. But what really pisses me off is that they shoved her into Alexander McQueen (yet another awful collection covering the eds), which is what everyone expected. Terrible editorial, great cover. But there are so many better things they could've put her in rather than those awful mink hats.

The cover is hideous.
The banner in not in context with the rest of the cover, the pose is awkward, the hair is awful, just all around bad.

But I might get it because of 916 pages.

Well this Gaga isn't the biggest Gaga! Remember Elle Indonesia April 2012 with more than 1,000 pages.

(blog.martianleaks.com)

My Lady Gaga endorsed phonebook has over 1000 pages as well.

Elle Indonesia in now way compares to US Vogue.

You can say whatever you want from her but she gives a lot to work in on a photoshoot. Just look at the video...I cant believe Mert & Marcus photoshoped her so much because the end result could be very good.
It may look better in print through

^ i actually agree, she looks great in the video especially with that black McQueen however unfortunately for Mert & Marcus the resulting shot looked kinda bland..

I loved the color of the banner when it was on the video but when it was on the cover, it looked like it was an auto shape from Powerpoint. The cover shoot looks really fun!

With the sell rates of Gaga's last issue and the $1.00 increase in cost, the issue will be wildly successful. Brilliant move in my opinion.

Brilliant, seriously?....this strategy is so obvious that in my opnion can´t be discribe as brilliant!

I am willing to see what kind of rubbish they have put in this issue to arrive the number of 916 pages...

Oh that video is charming, thanks for posting, Marc10.
Still, I can't get along with that awful wig. WHY????!!!

I agree with Chrissy M's write up in "Forum Buzz" - the cover is a departure, different-looking, which is good. I also agree with others that the red banner is "off" - KingofVersailles, I think the idea of an anniversary banner is a good one, but the execution here doesn't work. It kind of clashes with the rest of the cover, which is more edgy, whereas the banner is a traditional accoutrement. Finally, like Chrissy, I will not read the accompanying article because Lady Gaga doesn't interest me. I still feel like she wasn't a great choice for the cover, but at least they've styled and photographed her in an interesting way.

BTW, I don't recall that MJ dress in the collection? There were the lovely (I thought) patchwork black silk dresses at the end of the collection but no patchwork fuchsia gowns. This must be custom made for the person/occasion then.

So, the actors/artists/whoever appearing alongside Natalia are all cameos from Wharton's real life. Beautiful Victorian-esque gowns.
