What to wear when you're a student

well to be honest it depends on what time my classes start. but for the most part i grab what i can and think later. i don't feel like professors can/should take into consideration what somebody is wearing to grade them... at least, in my experience, they don't. when i have a career, i expect to have to dress better but atm all i'm thinking about is when i can catch some shuteye in between classes.

i like to mix and match my style. i usually dress in simple clothing but have "trendy" accessories.

currently i carry around my ysl muse, but clothing wise i'll wear anything from basic old navy tees to diffusion line stuff. i have some designer accessories like bags and shoes, but i dont think mainline designer clothing is very "college style" at all ^_^

not very "college budget" either :P:P

Do you know how to sew? A big thing for me is making my own clothes and mixing them with other items that suit my style. If you don't know how to sew there are other things you can make/ diy to personalize them. Sometimes you can find cool ideas at craftster.org

I'm also a big fan of shoes. I like irrregular choice ones (at least, some of them) because they are not common. I always get lots of compliment when I wear them.

I like making dresses and tees and customizing them and silkscreening them ... I made a simple shift cotton dress with a zip at the back and silkscreened a huge Marilyn Monroe lack and white shot on it ... I wear it with tights and ballet flats and always get compliments!!!!

I'm heading off to universtiy in September where its going to be cold pretty much all year long. On one hand, I do not want to be the baggy sweatpants and oversized sweaters type of gal but on the other hand, I am not going to have the time, or probably want to put in the effort to look as put together as I do in the city. Does anyone have any recommendations for something that is stylish AND something that'll keep me warm?

Hey all, I've been on this site for a bit but I've never really posted. I'm a college student looking for a style upgrade. Most of the time, I'll wear a nice solid-colored top (normally black or brown) with nice jeans and a pair of sneakers or flats.

What would you all suggest I add to my collection? I do enjoy nice brands, especially with regards to jeans. My favorite denim brand is Rock & Republic, but I also wear Hudson, CoH, and Blue Cult. I want to upgrade my everyday handbag to a great black satchel, but I can't seem to find anything really nice for under $500.

botkier has some REALLY nice bags under $500, as does coach and michael kors

Um, for college classes (which start for me in less than 2 months) I already know I'm going to be wearing a lot of plain tee shirts, and jeans. I'll probably wear funky earrings and colorful flats to set myself apart.

For winter, how about a nice pea coat? Black is a more traditional color but you could spice it up with a colorful chunky scarf. Or you could go for a colored pea coat like in red. Very chic.

My campus is so cold all I wear is sweatpants and swearshirts around... People don't really care about their outfits at my school. Most people wear "preppy" or classic styles (polos, jeans, khakis, plain tees,) and the others just wear sports clothing. The girls who do care-- and show it-- are often made fun of behind their backs because people feel it's not really necessary to dress up to walk through the snow to class.

to exams, i wear a pair of jeans and the same puma sweatshirt i've been wearing since last year...good luck charm!

I dont dress up for college but i dont dress down either id never wear trainers or sports wear eg trackie pants etc. or yoga pants id feel too casual. I normally wear skinny jeans some form of dress oversized tee or those tee shirt dress things over it layered with beads, chains etc. on my feet is either peep toes, converses, or ballet flats. I dont dress up or make any effort normally just what i throw on.. I get compliments daily though which is good =] (not boasting at all but im just saying you can make and effort and still look worse then people who make non ).. i hate those girls who make an effort they just look rediulas and like trend whores. There is one girl who wears heals daily looks so silly. I normally wake up late so heals are impractical to rush in lol not to mention all the stairs etc.
I normally use a topshop tote bag as a bag for college seems as i have about 20 of them. well thats on the days i remember to take work with me lol.
I wear some form of scarf 4 days out of 5 as well.
I like to assorise loads. makes something plain a bit more nicer.
i couldn't have said it better myself
that's how i normally dress too. the most dress-down for me is jeans, tee and converse shoes. i don't have much time in the mornings so i try to think about what i'm gonna wear the night before, although that never works for me so i just pick something cute and comfortable and that i feel good in.
i'd never wear sweats just because i don't look good in them and i wouldn't feel comfortable. same with heels, i love heels, but i have to do a lot of walking and lifting and stuff so it'd be harder if i was wearing heels.
i can't wait for summer to get here, i have the feeling it's gonna be much easier to dress during that time of the year

^ :ninja: that's the worst. . .
I'd check out Coach for a bag; they're making really nice leather ones minus the logos. Or even Banana Republic can sometimes have nice leather bags.
For clothing and the like, I'd add some fun accesories. You mentioned you wear t-shirts that are normally brown or black. What about a coral or blue with a deep v-neck? Then toss on a jacket. I think small changes will help in kind of changing your look a little bit. Start slowly then see where it goes :flower: You're in college, why not?

it really all depends on where you go to school.
I go to college in a city where there are fabulous thrift stores. I wear almost everything from thrift stores... i like to look funky.
