What to wear when you're a student

-----
ladybug are lovely they are ladybug for some reason. -->sorry I just had a foreing language moment :P .

I love fashion but I don't always look like I do in my 8:30 class.

I often think that when I tell people fashion is one of my interests, they must look at me and wonder if I'm having a laugh some days  A little bit like today. I've overslept and very nearly went to lectures in my pjs but decided to not rush, miss my lecture (its online anyway) ,but at least go wearing clothes. New Year,New Me.

I agree with C0UTUR3 4 SUR3. I used to absolutly love the idea of a uniform when I was at school. Not the uniform itself as the school was very strict and girls had to wear an odd length blazer with a hideous below the knee pleated skirt  but as soon as I turned 16 and finished my first set of exams,we could wear what we liked and I found it so difficult and horrible. There was some sort of unspoken pressure put on me when it came to what I wore. I can actually pinpoint that moment as when my spending increased :innocent:

Yup I get that alot!! :flower: I go to a very academic university so for some it seems fashion=

I'm not a person who dresses for attention (in that my clothes are generally not over the top or incredibly flamboyant) but I do take care of what I wear and appreciate the work put into a garment. In the arts section of my college though at least, it seems a lot of people dress just to merit attention in corridors or some such.. like very set hair and strong make-up. (waaay too much for a 10a.m. :innocent:) Pointy-toed shoes are a big trend with guys too, à la Noel Fielding.. Problem is I've seen so many stumble because they are not used to the extra length put on their feet!

I hear you on the academic University thing. I'm not in the arts section. Far worse. Social Science. And sometimes,it's like a freaks and geeks show! I'm sure they're lovely people though, underneath the layers of fleece.

We don't have any Noel Fieldings here, but there is one boy who is only 17 and dresses like he is a member of the Secret Police  he wears a long coat with army-type wings on the side and a red army hat. Topped off with curly hair past his shoulders. He really is bizarre. But each to their own.

I think one of my biggest challenges as a student is finding cute, comfy flats! I buy so many flats but end up not being able to wear them because they start killing my feet after four blocks. :(

H&M makes comfy flats :flower:

 I second this! I bought a pair for like 50kr in Prague last summer and they're super! Just enough of a raise on the heel so your feet aren't in total agony, but not enough to make your feet hurt! I was well impressed :P

Thank you! I'm going this weekend! I think I saw on the site or maybe on TFS they had adorable, simple leather flats for like 24.50.

Do they last awhile? I had a cheap 20.00 pair of Aldo flats that I abused for about 2 years and now they're falling apart!

^Well, I don't think they're leather... I think they wear pretty well though.

Having met a social worker this weekend, I can report they are still wearing fleece long after graduation  I like having a few fleece things myself, to wear around the house when it's cold. When my furnace went south at the very end of our winter, fleece was a very good thing indeed

I have very bad memories of fleeces. I have only ever owned one,a navy jumper with Winnie the Pooh on which I loved (I was maybe 12 ^_^) and my Mum let me iron for the first time, and I decided I wanted to iron my fleece and,um,it kind of got stuck to the iron  I've never owned once since.

Hahaha that's a very funny history. :D
I also haven't since I was 11 or so I've always think that fleece is for children's clothing or for really cold weather. Not for university.

hehe.. fleeces make me think of.. career-guidence chic!! The teacher in charge of that dept. in my secondary school seemed to have a bit of a love affair with lowe alpine clothing!
The tempreatures in rooms in my uni always go all over the place though.. sometimes you can freeze in the libraries, other times its just waaay too stuffy.. layers seem to be the way foward for college, especially cardigans.. put together with the tripping-up shoes and you have got yourself a man!!

^

I am wearing fleece right now as it happens ... another cold snap. This one a friend's son had outgrown & I "borrowed" it when I was freezing. I think it's meant to look Fair Isle or something  It picks up dog hair like nobody's business ... you'll be pleased to hear I don't wear it out of the house (or at least not off my property :P)

I used to go to a university in a smaller town, my goodness, 99 % of the students were in hoodies and converse ! grrrr

^ That's the world I'm in right there.
Or worse: scratchy sounding nylon and polo-shirts with the collar standing up.

And so stares are imminent if you go strolling by in tweed and mink..
You'd think people would have a little more imagination - especially people going to art college.

Agreed. I go to Art College and just about everyone wears Topshop, Topman, H&M, Jack & Jones with G-Star Jeans ^_^
Only the Fashion Students wear the best clothes. Which imo is natural.

I attend a community college and I was surprised at how creative some people are. I was expecting to see a bunch of sweats and uggs.. but a lot of girls wear cute heals and dresses.

Same here! I wear a Columbia fleece at the dog daycare, and there is always hair all over me...but it is the warmest thing to wear (it's still cold here!)

I don't usually wear fleeces to school, though. I normally wear jeans, flats, and a simple top, along with some sort of sweater, and of course my black wool peacoat (have to layer!)
