What to wear when you're a student

Hehe, went to the library today with grand intentions of getting my essays done.. just stared a what alot of people were wearing. Alot of prints on women it seemed.. and sometimes clashing prints. Toddled quickly to the English floor to nab some books.. a lot of odd-looking glasses there.. and I am a glasses-wearer myself, but these were a bit too far over the Harry Potter line. Also a lot of corduroy jackets.. seems I'm waaaay of the trend radar then

^ Sounds like there may be something a little unique happening theire in Eire  This Harry Potter line you mention sounds a good thing to be cognizant of ...

Question here:
Are opaque tights ok for classes? Just curious.

^ I would certainly think so ... unless the weather is very warm. I used to keep my ballet tights on whatever the weather so I could get to my next class on time :P

some of the girls at my school disgust me. a lot of them actually do dress nicely, but it's always the ones in the torn denim miniskirts, uggs and orange skin that seem to stick out. so sad.

I don't dress any differently for school than for any other day event. I wear what I feel like, when I feel like, where I feel like :D

^Maybe then, like you,the girls just want to wear denim mini-skirts and uggs

HAHA Starry-Eyed,I wear glasses too on days I'm too lazy/runing late to put my contacts in and I always find myself looking at other peoples, they can make or break a person.

I'm going to be giving heels a go on cobble stoned paths tomorrow

wow, well I go to my university in just anything, all dressed up is ok, but jodhpants and easy hoodies are also perfecly ok.
nobody cares that much, I might end up in a fancy spot, so I like to look nice allways actually...
(university is IN the city, not on a campus on whatever so maybe that's why...)

You are a braaaaave woman dumbfairy!! :flower: There is no way I can run for buses/lectures/coffee in them! I did root out a pair of wedges I'd forgotten about recently and have started wearing them. I rather like my new-found height!

My day went at a lot slower pace  iinstead of me rushing around, but actually I quite liked it. And the added height is always a good bonus  Having said that, back to flat boots it is ^_^

^ I used to work in an office building with several towers and this very large ground floor that connected them ... paved in stone, none too evenly laid (clearly designed by men). I was not going to stop wearing heels to work altogether ... it's a whole new skill walking across cobblestones in heels IMO ... it's good not to work there anymore, for myriad reasons

Its funny to see the diference between american universities and the rest of the world.

In many countries or cities eople dont live inthe campus and have two different lives so it can influence the way people dressed.

Having studied in europe and the US I have to say european university students are most of the times more stylish. In my case I''m from Spain and you will never see someone with flip flops, ugg's sweatpants or pyjamas in the uni, although it depends where your uni is(city) the degree you study, and the type of university you go to in the type of people you cna find.

In Spain in general or at least in my city Madrid(4-5 mill people) there is a lot of diversity, in my college(law and business) I have to say people dress very well and you can find a lot of stylish girls(i'm not one of them hehe) sometimes i wish the sartorialist came to my uni because he will have pics for a long time.

At the same time I have to say that in teh stree, and even more in the streetstyle blogs about Spain, you find everything and the most strange things, and even worse they usually portray the weirdest things they find in the street, which i hate because they dont represent the truth.

i go to a public uni and nobody pays attention to looking faaaaaaab. some have the basic in style items(bag, jackets), most arent. Then, everybody tells me ''wow, u got all dressed up today!'' when im just wearing black pants, white tshirt, black coat and my black bag in my elbow, squared black shades and.. flats! but they all go just jeans, tshirt and flats... messy hair and like they've just woken up.
I keep it simple but i cant help it... i like putting some effort on it! haha.

^ I remember being so surprised seeing people I had 8:00 classes with looking almost unrecognizeable at other times with hair done & makeup on :P I suspect that what looks like bed hair ... really is

I tend to look better as the day goes on. Sometimes I'll do full makeup for my first class and sometimes no makeup at all depending on how much time I have, but usually I end up just doing the basic necessities for my first class and add during my breaks as the day goes on. I look like one of those celeb no makeup pics - very different all made up vs completely natural.

hahaha yes, i know what you mean.
I do not wear make-up. Just cover the areas that look good. But i do hairdos and wear nice clothes, not expensive or luxurious.. just tidy and to look good. I'll post pictures next week as this week I took it off for Easter *angel face*.

I'm a student in Europe -Germany to be exact- at a science-, medicine, business-only university (no art students or whatsoever).

You rarely ever see sweats here. And if you do, it's on people heading to the sports courses in the evening (one of the sports rooms is in the uni building).

I study medicine (tenth semester) and although there are some badly dressed people (some girls tend to dress a bit skanky, especially in summer), they are a super small minority.

It ranges from boring (sweats, jeans, trainers) to elegant/chic. No business suits or costumes though!

I try to dress somewhat grown-up/ a bit more elegant most of the time now as I look quite young. I abstain from heels most of the time though, because there's a lot of cobblestone around uni and in the city.

With reference to being fresh faced,I've been on Easter Vacation for the past 2 weeks and haven't worn make-up once,I think it may continue when term starts again. My friends in lectures will be shocked by how bad I look haha ^_^ But I've noticed a difference in myself since I started back in October. I can't work out if I have gotten lazier,or if I'm more accepting of myself when I go to lectures looking like a hobo and not giving a damn what others think :D

I don't like the dress so I wouldn't wear it to school. Anyway, it is more a dress for special occasions.
