“If I were the alcoholic everyone says I am, then putting a [SCRAM] bracelet on would have ended me up in detox, in the emergency room, because I would have had to come down from all the things that people say I’m taking and my father says I’m taking—so that says something, because I was fine,” Lindsay Lohan tells Vanity Fair contributing editor Nancy Jo Sales. “I think everyone has their own addictions and hopefully learns how to get past them,” she says, in an interview conducted one week before her jail time began. “I think my biggest focus for myself is learning how to continue to get through the trauma that my father has caused in my life.”
Lohan was visibly upset when she spoke with Sales about Ali’s presence in the courtroom, calling it “heartbreaking” to see her sister cry. However, Lohan feels conflicted about her father’s unexpected appearance at the hearing, telling Sales, "The worst part of it is you turn around and you see your dad crying and normally you’d be, like, happy that your father’s there. But then he has to go and do an interview right after.”
Sales reports that Lohan thinks her career is far from over. “I don’t care what anyone says. I know that I’m a damn good actress. … And I know that in my past I was young and irresponsible—but that’s what growing up is. You learn from your mistakes,” she tells Sales.
Lohan adamantly denies rumors of d*** abuse, telling Sales: “I’ve never abused p*********** d****. I never have—never in my life. I have no desire to. That’s not who I am. I’ve admitted to the things that I’ve done—to, you know, dabbling in certain things and trying things ’cause I was young and curious and thought it was like, O.K., ’cause other people were doing it and other people put it in front of me. And I see what happened in my life because of it.”
Lohan blames her troubles, in part, on hanging out with the wrong crowd, Sales reports. “So many people around me would say they cared for the wrong reasons. A lot of people were pulling from me, taking from me and not giving. I had a lot of people that were there for me for, you know, the party.” And when she first moved to L.A., Lohan says, “it was very go-go-go and I had a lot of responsibility; and I think just the second I didn’t have [structure] anymore—I was 18, 19—with a ton of money and no one really here to tell me that I couldn’t do certain things … And I see where that’s gotten me now, and I don’t like it.” She says tabloids were her main source of news, and calls that “really scary and sad… I would look up to those girls… the Britneys and whatever. And I would be like, I want to be like that.”
Sales interviews several paparazzi, and reports that Lohan often cooperates with them for a fee, though Lohan denies this. “If I called her up right now and said I’ll give you $10,000, she’d come right down,” a photographer tells Sales. “Once you’re famous, there’s always a way to make money,” another photographer says. “She might not be doing what she’d like to be doing, but she’ll always be Lindsay Lohan.”
x17onlineLindsay Lohan looks lovely on the latest issue of Vanity Fair, but what really has our attention is what she's saying rather than what she's wearing for the sexy spread. Regarding her recent legal drama, Lindsay tells the mag, "I was irresponsible. And I'm not making excuses." However when asked about those court mandated alcohol ed classes she missed, Lilo defends herself, adding, "I have to support myself. I have to pay for my apartment. I have to pay for food. People root for me and say they want me to work, but then everyone's against me."
"I'm a completely different person now," she continued. "And I'm not getting any younger. I want the respect that I had when I was doing great movies. And if that takes not going out to a club at night, then so be it. It's not fun anyway. I don't care. It's the same thing every time." Despite what her father has said over the years, Lindsay denies having an addiction to p*********** d****. "I've never abused p*********** d****," she says. "I never have. Never in my life. I have no desire to. That's not who I am."
Lindsay whines about the double standard with men in Hollywood (she claims they don't get the same amount of flack that she does for her wild behavior) and she also rips into her father Michael, saying, "I think if anyone should be looked at medically it's him ... He has such a big chemical imbalance at this point because of all the things he's done to himself."
And what about all her partying? "These were my college years ... but they were in the public eye. I was irresponsible. I was experimenting," she said. "I was doing certain things that people do 10 times more of when they're in college." But why is she calling them her college years if she wasn't actually enrolled in school? Oh well!
Lindsay gets serious and tells the mag that she wants people to take her seriously, and it sounds like she still has her eye on an Oscar. "I want my career back," Lohan said. "I know that I'm a damn good actress, and it's been my passion since I was a child, and I know that when I care about something, I put 100 percent and more into it."
And if that takes not going out to a club at night, then so be it. It's not fun anyway. I don't care. It's the same thing every time.

Lindsay Lohan's war of words with her estranged father Michael is moving into the legal arena.
The troubled starlet has fired off a scathing and threatening cease and desist letter to her dad, ordering him to stop selling her personal property, RadarOnline.com has learned exclusively.
She calls his actions "shameful."
At the center of the legal spat is Lindsay's private diary entries she wrote while in drug rehabilitation at Cirque Lodge in Utah, in 2007.
In the letter -- sent by Lindsay's attorney Shawn Chapman Holley to Michael's rep Lisa Bloom -- the Mean Girls star accuses her dad of attempting to sell excerpts of the hand-written diary.
The legal letter, dated the day before Lindsay was released from court-ordered rehab, says she had no idea her father had the diary and she did not give him permission to sell or distribute it.
According to Chapman Holley, Michael's grab for cash is "shameful" and Lindsay is "appalled" at his move.
The lawyer warned that if Michael tried to sell the diary or any other of Lindsay's personal belongings, Lindsay would exercise all her legal rights and seek damages for a "grave invasion of privacy."
It's the latest sad event in the pair's tumultuous relationship.
Even while estranged from Lindsay, the Lohan patriarch insisted his daughter need to "mend fences" with him and others upon her release from rehab.
Since being released from UCLA Medical Center, the 24-year-old actress seems to be making an honest effort at getting her life back on track, according to sources close to her.
In the October issue of Vanity Fair, Lindsay blamed Michael for many of her problems.
"I think my biggest focus for myself is learning how to continue to get through the trauma that my father has caused in my life," she told the magazine.
In response, Michael told RadarOnline.com, "They did the interview before Lindsay went to jail and rehab. What did they expect her to say?"

Lindsay Lohan’s Ill-Timed ‘Comeback’ Role
She got sprung from rehab the day of the film’s downtown L.A. premiere last Wednesday but did not show up to share the spotlight with co-stars Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez. Insiders strolling the red carpet let on that reps for the studio, the filmmakers and Lohan had mutually agreed that her presence would have caused too much of a disruption were she to attend, pulling all the attention away from the film.
Reached about the premiere issue, Lohan’s mother Dina emailed: “We are in a great place and I am not commenting there!”
