Top 10 Newcomers FW 07: Anjelika

She was the MOTW during NY’s show week and boy did Marilyn’s Anjelika live up to her advance billing. In between her turns for Marc Jacobs, Philosophy, Anna Sui, Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein, the Ukraine’s latest sensation has piqued the interest of a wide range of those power photographers and editors. OTM had the pleasure of working with Anjelika and a more punctual and professional newcomer you could not hope to find. Which means she moves into Milan most wanted and very coveted.

Top 10 Newcomers FW 07: Johanna

After leaving Canada last fall and being sent directly to Paris by Supreme, Johanna Stickland was one of the stellar girls who exploded out of Europe for Spring S/S 07 with bookings for Dior, Givenchy and Chloe. All that momentum culminated in Johanna clinching a spot in the S/S 07 Jil Sander campaign. The upshot for this eerily elegant young Canadian? After a debut NY season that saw her marching for Marc Jacobs, Proenza and Philosophy, this rare girl can expect to be marshalled for only the most selective of bookings, come the Milan and Paris show cycles. Stay tuned!

Top 10 Newcomers FW 07: Olga

Olga/ 1 Mgmt (NY) Nathalie (Paris)
In OTM’s October 9 06 Paris Report we name checked this redheaded Russian as she had just finished highstepping for Miu Miu, Chanel, Valentino and McQueen in the Spring shows. Cut to NY four months later and after her opening turn at Marc Jacobs as well her stint at Donna Karan, Olga Sherer is a girl with all of Europe’s eyes trained on her right this minute. Paris launched her, Marc highlighted her in New York, now its Milan’s turn to have its say on Olga. Stay tuned.

Jules, I'm right there with you. There's nothing really outstanding about her, or her runway performance thus far. There are definitely newcomers out there that have made a much larger impression in my mind thus far.

As for MDC's lists...I agree with Georgia, Johanna, Kasia and Olga at this point...but anything can still happen.

OMG is MDC crazy!? Milan and Paris haven't even started yet and already have they filled 9 out 10 spots....Can you say Prada, or Paris splash a la Michaela K, Denisa D, Hilary R...

yes indeed...it makes absolutely no sense to determine such a list on base of NYC shows

They did this last year. Jumping the gun and assuming that their beliefs and favorites will trump anything, or anyone else coming up. It really does just kill me though to see them get it so wrong last year and then have to make up for half of the girls that they missed, with their list this season. The very jaded modelphile in me just assumes not to really buy into what they're selling.

That's why we here at tFS don't make lists until we've seen everything. Nope. We just keep threads that document all the speculations for months prior to the release of the names

Maybe MDC list should be read more as "Top 10 New Faces NYC". They don't really present list that way, but it basically is. This would also make more sense of including some like Lara and Ekat on a newcomers list, because not counting exclusives, it is after all their first NY season (I think?).

I don't understand why Agyness is on list in any case, so last season. And Olga is strange when they call it newcomers (didn't she do NY shows in like FW05? And Europe even before that.. :innocent: ), but of course it's more about "breakthrough girls", so ok...

we'll see in Paris and Milan how last season she is :innocent: because I don't think she is.

^ No, that's not what I meant at all! I mean she should be on list last season, that's when she was new and had her breakthrough. ^_^

I guess I wasn't the only one with that thought!

MDC shouldn't have put Lara and Agyness on their list. They aren't really new, they were around last season.

MDC just posted their final Top 10 New Face (Diana), so I think for sure you can call it Top NYC Newcomers, even if they themselves don't seem to mean for list to be just NYC. But how else can you fill all spots before Milan & Paris has even started?

I agree...it's def better to consider it as a NY list. But still, it's a wrong list...Agyness, Lara and Ekat just do not belong on a new girl list for this season. Also, who on earth is Anjelika..she did like four shows. And I also don't expect too much of Sofi this runway season, so....They're only right on their money for Johanna, Diana, Georgia and I guess Olga too as far as I am concerned.

Well at least last season they had the common sense to leave one spot open for Suvi's Prada opener. To their credit though, I think we definitely can agree that their choices of Kasia Struss, Olga Sherer, Georgia Frost, Johanna Strickland, and now Diana Moldovan, aren't necessarily far from what we should expect on the official list. They just should have saved those five other spots for Milan and Paris.

I think Ali Michael's chances are better since she only walked in Giles Deacon and Marc by Marc Jacobs in London. We thought she'd be a Marc exclusive, but she did Giles as well.

More like 15 I think, and some major, major ones. I mean, Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Anna Sui, Ralph Lauren... And she's continued to work it in London with Marc by Marc, Giles, Christoper Kane, the biggest London shows.

I wouldn't have put her on the list either, though. She may have been in some good shows, but she hasn't been "visible", she lacks any distinguishing qualities and theres no.. oomph!

FOUR FOR MILAN
Angus Munro picks the breakout girls for next week's Milan shows

Fashion madness picks up in Milan next week. Meet four girls inducing the hysteria.

Clockwise from top left:

Catherine McNeil (Next)
"I would have booked this 17-year-old Aussie in all my New York shows had she been available! Unfortunately for me, but fortunately for her, she was shooting D&G and British Vogue with none other than Mario Testino while the shows were on. Add to that the new Hugo Boss Black campaign...not bad for a new girl. And she is already on hold for all the major Milan designers."

Olga Sherer (One Model Management)
"Not a brand-new girl but looking good for a huge season in Milan following a great week in NYC that was topped off by opening Marc Jacobs show. She just tore it up in London having booked both of London's hippest shows, Giles Deacon and Christopher Kane."

Angelika Kocheba (Marilyn)
"Last but not least, this 19-year-old Ukrainian had a major New York season, booking Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, and Ralph Lauren at her first attempt. Definitely one to watch when the shows hit Italy."

Serafima Vakulenko (IMG)
"This 19-year-old Russian is making her 1st show appearance in Milan—rumor has it that she may feature very heavily in the star-making Prada show. Watch this space!"
