Style.com's Top Ten New Faces - F/W 07.08

I think Catherine McNeill is stepping it up. She's maybe not a girl you'd see at Marc or Prada or Jil, but she's rocking the more grown up and/or sexy Milan shows. She also opened Just Cavalli and Etro, and just today she was the only new girl (except Suvi) at Fendi, opened Dell'Acqua and closed Pucci.

^100% agreement! If she does just as well in Paris there's no overlooking her for the list!

haha I'm just going by your list for now on! Although I would add Rachel Clark since she has been in some pretty big shows, if I recall.

Haha, my list means nothing, just an opinion. Though I agree with you about Rachel Clark, she's been on my lists in the past, I think I simply just forgot to put her name on there. You should see the sheets of paper I have piled up with different lists of names everywhere. I do agree that she should be on the Watch List

Top 10 Newcomers FW 07 (Europe:( Sheila

2255_39100.jpg

Sheila/Women (Milan), Women (Paris), Women (NY)
Sheila, the latest belle of the ball from Women Milan is exactly what OTM has been waiting for ; a first season girl who makes her debut at a major show (Gucci) thus raking up a storm of interest from Paris. And we fully expect to see Sheila right at the top of that most coveted spectrum of shows in the City Of Lights. More later!

Sheila who??? I havent even noticed her - is a gucci show debut so important today??? Importantwice gucci is not what it used to be - at least from my point of view. Ok its still a name with a good sound but anyway... mdc must know more than they say :D .
PS: She screams Freja!!!

Also, this season really is filled with more new faces than we've had in a long time. There are so many gorgeous girls compeating for those few breakout spots, that this is really becoming quite hard at this point.

I agree with the first sentence - lots of new faces - but def disagree with the second. I think there are not so many gorgeous girls...they're all looking very boring and unrecognisable...very undestinctive features. Last season, there were fewer new girls, but as far as I am concerned SS 07 was the most exciting new-model season since a few years, because there were so many unique, amazing faces - mdc even had to incorporate half of them in their FW 0708 list. This season, I don't think there are more than three solid stars with amazing careers in their sight. It's kind of a boring season actually...

Sheila has nothing on Freja, she's really common looking with a not so good body. I can't see that girl making it big. MDC must know she's up to something major, or they've lost it completely...

That was a little surprising. I'm sure a Gucci exclusive will create a bit of a buzz, but enough to grant her a place among the Top 10 Newcomers? It's not exactly like opening Prada... and I have to agree that her look doesn't seem too exciting. Let's wait and see what happens in Paris, shall we?

Did they not notice the Prada or Jil Sander exclusives? Well of course they did, they made Charlotte Pallister MOTW after all, but they always write these silly things. It's like when they post show packages with two days of shows left and still write thing like "Watch out for XX, XX and XX, one of them could just be the breakout star of Milan this season".

Unrelated, but Catherine Mc looks stronger and stronger with every day. Today: Versace, opening Missoni and closing Dsquared. She has opened or closed six good Milan shows now.

I'm baffled at the success Catherine McNeil has had these past couple of days. Don' t get me wrong, it's good for her and all of that but the girl has the biggest, most unattractive jawline i've ever seen on a woman.
I'm quite surprised that Sheila got mentioned on MDC and I agree that being a Gucci exclusive doesn' t have much to it anymore. I do hope she does well in Paris, she has alot of potential and her look is anything but "common" IMO.

Maybe I'm biased here because I really feel partial to some of these new girl's looks, but I really don't think that its fair to say that across the board they're all devoid of interest. After all, what I said was meant to put a positive spin on how difficult is has been to narrow down all the choices we have.

Last season's contenders were diverse and amazing, I'm not denying that. It was a superb mix of classic beauties, runway staples, and editorial champions, most of whom are now must-haves in the industry. However, with all due respect, I really have to disagree with the statement that this season is filled with girls that are all: "boring," or "undestinctive." If I look at my lists of girls that broke this season, I'm really not seeing many that I would considering boring, let alone unrecognisable. Kasia Struss, Carolina Pantoliano, Olga Sherer, Catherine McNeil, Georgia Frost, Johanna Strickland? I don't see an overlap between any of them. I still think that this season has a ton of unique and amazing faces, who have a great deal of potential.

Anyhow, this thread is not meant to be a forum for debating the validity of their careers, so I won't go any further on that, I just wanted to speak my peace. As for Sheila Marquez, she kind of popped out of no where didn't she? She has a 10 Mag. editorial, and some pseudo Gucci exclusive. She's going to have to go big in Paris if she's gonna make the list though.

I love Catherine Mcneil despite her masculine jawline - she is adorable and stunning. Right girl at the right time on the right places. Opening and closing bunch of good shows.

^^My post was no attack on you, of course, if that is what you got from it...sorry if you did

I'm just not so excited over this season's new bash, I can't help it... Some I really love, but others just kinda bore me. They are just not making that runway splash on me that some girls did make last season. Such as Johanna...I love her in print a lot, but on the runway she looks stiff and bored herself. Same with Suvi (who I consider a this season new girl) and some more.... To each their own I guess :P

Absolutely! I didn't take it as an attack at all, fear not . Just a healthy discussion amongst friends with similar interests. Fear not, its all such a bloody subjective thing anyhow, it really is to each their own. I'm just excited to see how different the lists are going to be this year. Last year most people had the same five or six girls, with a few kickers. This year should be interesting.

^John, for me Catherine McNeil already promised herself a spot on the list. She skipped NYC to shoot with Miesel I believe...only to appear in Milan and have a hand in almost every important catwalk. I don't mind the jawline at all actually, gives her character, makes her all the more unexpected. Loves it!

I think C-Mac looks of sort mean with that heavy jawline and those eyes.. and I love it! :woot: She has sex appeal, and not in an androgynous way like Freja or Agyness, but like a womanly vicious vixen. It's been so long since a new girl like that came along.

She's so Milan to me, she was made to walk for Versace and the gang, but now that everyone's talking about her (you bet they are buzzing like crazy about that new girl stealing opening spots from the stars!), I'm sure she'll do well in Paris too.

"C-Mac" :lol:

She screams Bond girl at me, especially with the shows she's been cast in and the clothes that have adorned her...definitely a great shift from the younger faces we're accustomed to seeing at Jil Sander and Prada and a must-have on the upcoming lists!

Yeah, I like many of the sweet youngsters, but let's bring back some women to the runway. The main reason I like C-Mac :P, aside from the cool meanie look, is that she seems to represent something different. She makes me think of Daria and Gisele (maybe it's the masculine features?) and some of the more glamorous old-school models. That's actually not my favorite type of model, but it's a welcome break from the "big eyes, small mouth, innocent face", "look at me I'm cool because I have funky hair and VERI KOOL personal style" and "I'm very plain but my agency have convinced all the important people that I'm edgy" looks.

 That was one of my biggest pet-peeves from last season! The fact that everyone had "bangs," a "short" boyish haircut, or a forceably "agrodynous" look. I was so sick of having that aesthetic shoved down our throats. Its nice to see that we're moving away from that, I agree.
