Victoria's Secret Etc, Etc (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

I feel bad that Lily didn't get many fans coming out to meet her. But speaking as a retail and merchandising professional and less as a VS fan, I honestly don't think VS cares at all if fans are coming out to get signatures and pictures with their models. All they care about is whether or not people are buying their bras and their fragrances. I would imagine not a large percentage of those people who come in to meet their favorite model are actually making hefty puchases that drive and lift sales.

I work in television retail and I can honestly tell you that the face who is selling my product is very important and not as disposable as some might think but just because they have an off day doesn't mean I don't ever want them to sell that product ever again because as the professional I still believe in their abilities and popular opinion doesn't sway me against that. The brand name is more important than a brand face and ultimately the product will speak before the model ever does so the Adriana's and Lily's of the world are all secondary in this. They're nice to look at but I would think that VS only cares if their products are selling, not if a bunch of girls or men are coming to get autographs.

It's not realistic to compare the crowds of models that have been there for 10 years versus that of models that have been there for 1.

Seriously, and I would hope after 10 years someone would learn how to do a better interview than the ones that have been given. For some girls new to this kind of spotlight they're doing pretty well with that.

So as of now Chanel is the one who is hitting on all cylinders which of course means that her position with VS will never, ever be questioned again, right?

You know it will, until she leaves. I lost the memo that this thread was Brazil's Secret, Candice's Secret, Adriana's Secret, or The Secret Life of Being a Pregnant Angel because it seems every time a one of the other newer girls is brought up in a positive light there seems to be a negative attitude brought against it.

I think you people are taking objective criticism and really twisting it to defend your fav model.

The girl had no one coming to a launch she was headlining as a solo Angel...how can anyone try to spin that any other way?? By all measures, it was a failure. It's unfortunate, but that's the hard cold truth. It has nothing to do with anyone's hate for Lily . Jeez

I think the comparisons to Lily vs Adriana in Toronto are a little unfair... Adriana was in Toronto to open the first VS store in Canada. People were hyped up both to see her AND to have the option to shop in store in Canada. To compare, when the first H&M opened up in my area, people were lined up early to get in first. And there was no model, no promotion, nothing. People were just excited to finally have access. So while it's unfortunate that Lily's signing didn't have quite the buzz, Adriana also benefited from the hype of hosting a huge milestone.

Actually Adriana's crowds are almost always huge with at least 100 people, if not more. Ask anyone who has attended one. Also the official opening of the store, was the day before...so..

and Littleathquakes thank you, totally agree. I don't expect the new girls to pull in crowds like Adriana and Alessandra do, of 100 or more. But I do think an angel needs to pull in at least 20 or so, heck Miranda at least pulls in that.

I don't think I ever said Adriana doesn't draw large crowds. She's obviously a huge star, no one is disputing that. I'm just saying, part of the madness from that day was due to it being the first store ever open in Canada.

God, I'm not even a Lily fan. But the way you talk up Adriana makes me want to defend all of the other girls because it's obvious that they will never live up to the standards you have set.

I don't have a problem with Lily, or really any of the new girls. I don't care for Candice, but I didn't say anything bad about them at all...I just said she should have pulled in more people. I don't need to even be a fan of Adriana to say what I'm saying, all I'm saying that her Normal crowd is about 100 or more. The store "bringing in more people" I agree had a little to do with it, but not much considering it wasn't the first store open in Canada.

Also a standard I set. I'm not even as big of a fan as Adriana as I use to be, but buisness is buisness and when someone like Alessandra on her first solo event brought in over 50-75 people, and Adriana was something around those numbers too. There is a standard the COMPANY has. Candice brings in her fair share, Erin obviously is, Chanel obviously is, now that I've heard about it. Lily didn't, it's that simple. Do I think Lily is beautiful? Yes. Do I think she's a good model? Yes. Do I think this launch was a failure? Yes. Just because I think it was poor judgment on VS's part to give her a solo launch doesn't mean I'm damning Lily. Like I said I don't expect the new girls to pull in what the Veterans do, but I do think they need to pull in 20 or more, to at least equal out for what VS gave to produce the launch in the first place. When an Angel does a launch, VS shouldn't have to be standing outside the store begging people to come in.

I like Lily, and I feel sorry for her I don't want her to leave, but she's got to at least come to par with the new Angels or VS won't care for it.

Um, how do you know Lily didn't pull in that? No one knows exactly how many people showed up.

All we know is that at that specific moment the picture was taken, the line was not long. We don't know what happened before that moment. We don't know what happened after that moment. We don't know how many people were inside of the store already. We don't know how many people came before that. We don't know how many people came after that. We don't even know if the person who posted that even met her or if he just walked by the store. He didn't indicate one way or the other.

Talk about taking one picture and running with eulogies and eternal damnation...

Another account of Lily's photo session. It doesn't sound as bad as that one guy's pic made it seem. As I said, we don't know what happened before that picture, after that picture, or even how many people in total showed up. The crowd might not have been overwhelming, but people did go see her.
