No one showing up to a launch is not the same as a model not being able to handle a launch. Either Lily does not have the name / face recognition or there is not a lot of interest and that is not a good thing, but judging by the pictures in her thread she kept her spirits up and that is a good thing.

i mean what else can she do?

totally agree any model can have a solo launch.i mean they just have to show up and stay there,take pics etc.

if you a a low number of people showing up or no one it means that no one care about that model.

ex. if Erin,lili had a launch in my town i wont even bother going.not even if is my day off at work.

now if ale,adri,doutzen,miranda,candice or rosie do a launch i wont even go to work just to go and meet them.B)

Hahaha I know! Then we could talk to Adriana as long as we want, and not just 10 seconds before the security tells us to move on.

On a side note, I find it hilarious that on Lily's event, VS even expected a seperate VIP/express line for her. Clearly the event fell short of their expectations, lol.

I wonder how the line up will change this year. They haven't maintained the same group of angels for more than a year since 2005.

I feel sorry for her too, but I'm not one of her fans, so I'll survive. I hope VS learns from this and to not have solo launches for any of the lesser known angels ever again just to avoid this kind of embarrassment.

pictures in her thread she kept her spirits up and that is a good thing.

The pictures in her thread are from earlier today when she was doing interviews and official press shoots. There are no pictures from the actual photo op as of right now. If the one guy hadn't posted the picture of it, then this place wouldn't have even known that she didn't have a big crowd. The day seemed to go great up until the fan oriented portion, and all of the VS events don't have fan activities associated with them. I don't think one event is going to ruin her.

Chanel had a big crowd when she did her Valentine's launch in Toronto, but I agree with Lily not having the name yet. It probably should have just been a launch and not a launch/combo signing. You have to start somewhere though, and I still think it's a positive thing that she had a solo event.

I came here to post the same thing just about Chanel. It's sad that just because some don't like a girl doing VS they feel the need to go so hard to discredit them especially if they seem to be doing well with the company. She can actually bring a crowd to a solo event.

The first Incredible launch is good proof that they don't need Adriana or any of the other tenured angels to be with them to bring crowds, I saw pictures of that line and it was insane. Its unnecessary to bunch her with them all the time as they are somewhat coming into their own. It seems like they're testing the waters with Lily, and it didn't work out too well. Maybe next time it'll get better if it happens. Maybe they could have put her in more group events previously before throwing her into a solo one like this. I don't think she's done a group fan event that included pictures or a signing? Correct me if I'm wrong.

When it is a group of them without a veteran with them they do pretty well. I was not informed of Chanel, so I wasn't trying to discredit for Christ's sake. But it is no secret that Adriana and Ale do bring the biggest crowds to the events, and are the main focus when they are present. If anyone has seen video of the recent event it's very evident in the photo-op when all you hear is "This way girls" and "Adriana!" over and over, with one "Candice" thrown in there. No other girls were even called or mentioned.

I think as group events the new girls do their best, but as for Solo events, they need to leave it to Adriana and Alessandra. Both bring in hundreds of people (hello did you see the mass in Canada when Dri did her signing) Chanel and Candice look like they can bring in crowds, but in comparison they are very minor to the ones the veterans can bring in. I think keeping the new girls at the group launches and veterans at the solos keep it fair. That way the veterans don't "outshine" media wise the new girls, and the new girls don't get disappointed like I'm sure Lily did today.

For a perfect line up would be great to see 'a bit of everything'. Brazilian angel, American, may be a couple from Europe, 'one of color' and so on.

I feel so sorry for Lily though. Maybe when she gets her name out there more the fans will come...

Im sorry but its really not surprising that Lily didn't fare to well. Im sure all your faves, including Adriana, all started in that predicament. Adriana Lima didn't start out being "ADRIANA LIMA", I remember an event where she played background to Tyra and Heidi!....she had to work her way up, just like everyone else. Now she has paid her dues, and is recognized by the general public. Now its time for Lily and the rest, to pay their dues and work their way up. Only time will tell if they can last as VS girls. No need to rag on poor Lily....she was a good sport about it!

See that's the difference, where you are actually kind of wrong. What differs today's angels and the angels from the past is Adriana, Alessandra were INSTANT hits with the public. Back when they debuted VS didn't do many signings maybe 1-2 a year it wasn't almost every event like now. Even then, Adriana and Ale hit with a HUGE bang, and were successful right out of the gate. As was Gisele. The public just doesn't seem to be taking a liking to these girls as fast, hopefully it will catch on but I doubt VS will give Lily a chance after this. VS will compare them to the success that the Brazilian Trio, Heidi and Tyra had RIGHT away, they didn't have a period to "warm up" I guess you could say. So why waste time and money on someone who isn't even really a big hit right away?

Candice, Erin, and Chanel have all separately had good showings for their solo events. It's not realistic to compare the crowds of models that have been there for 10 years versus that of models that have been there for 1. It's not necessary to keep them grouped together. Erin, Chanel, and Candice all do fine on their own. They've proven that they can handle solo events.

Plus, we don't know for sure how many people showed up for Lily. All we know is that the line wasn't long. One person on Twitter said that about 10 people were in line when she showed up. A few people might have showed up and been able to go right to the photo area after that picture was taken. All Lily would have needed was about 10 more people to come close to Miranda's showing when she did her Heavenly Enchanted launch in 2009. Apparently, only about 25 people showed up for that one according to someone who went.

I don't think it's far-fetched to suggest that a few people who would have normally gone to a VS launch were at the Lady GaGa concert instead. She was in Toronto last night, and her concert was scheduled to start around the same time Lily would have been finishing up her the photo session. Other models might have drawn a line anyway, but Lily's clearly not there yet. It's only been about five or six months that they've started to promote her, and I think it's ridiculous to write her off so soon. Again, we wouldn't even be having this conversation if it wasn't for one TwitPic.

When you combine the lack of name recognition and the competing GaGa concert, the low turn-out makes a little more sense to me. I like Lily, but I would have chosen GaGa too.

My guess is that the folks at VS are probably more bothered by Adriana's appearance on The Early Show earlier this week as opposed to Lily's appearance at a Toronto mall. In both cases, as melissablu stated, it may have been arrogance (or hubris) on VS' part. When I saw the video from The Early Show, I was like, "they really should have had one of the young 'uns there," aka Erin, Lily or Chanel because it was cringe-worthy to see Adriana having to come up with ways to shill VS and the Incredible Bra, really it was bad at the beginning but it got better at the end, still it would have been better if they let one of the young 'uns be the salesperson and let Adriana be above it all and serve as an expert on choosing the right bra.

When it comes to spokesmodeling, Adriana has been doing very well and, along with Chanel and Lily, is currently one of VS' best spokesmodels. However this is actually the area that has been Adriana's big weakness in the past, which is why VS would have never even thought of putting Adriana (or Alessandra, Karolina or Gisele) in the same position that they put Lily in yesterday. I just think that in both cases, for different reasons, VS may have thought that these two angels would have been successful in situations that are probably the toughest ones to handle. I don't even know if Lily's could be considered a total failure, it really depends on how widely her appearance was covered by the local press / bloggers, if Lily's appearance was well covered and the brand and products that she was shilling got mentioned, then that would trump the lack of fan turn out.

So as of now Chanel is the one who is hitting on all cylinders which of course means that her position with VS will never, ever be questioned again, right?

I just read tlg00's comment, I assumed that Erin was doing well with VS because they kept her around and they kinda sorta promoted her at the 2010 VSFS, but I did not realize that she has been solo stuff (if I saw photos, I must've forgotten them), thanks for the info.

Erin had two solo events last year. Both were in her hometown of Chicago.
