The Weeknd should be their resident musical act.. the show wasn't 100% a snoozefest thanks to the segment he's in, just like last year.
Lady Gaga on the other hand, has got to be the most overhyped pop singer of our time, I've warmed up to her after the protest she did in a truck (lol) but she's still all about image, she would be nowhere without it.. her actual sounds, from the lyrics to the music and don't get me started on her voice, has zero relevancy or even a feel-good, catchy vibe, more like something you'd hear at noon in the electronics area of kmart.
Re the models.. glad to see Adriana has stepped up her act a little and it's less cringe-worthy and more femme fatale.. she looked almost as good as Irina, who got very little camera attention but stole the show imo.. she's what VS used to be all about.. bombshells and total gems for their rarity, not standard sorority girls.
I agree completely with
octoberchild about the express lane this show is in towards outdated pageant territory, and about how difficult it will be for them to get out of it at this point... it started with this spectacular, super exclusive thing (the Cannes show), then they kind of channeled all the energy towards one model (Gisele) and when she left, they had to built on the reputation without strong material or buzz or stars of their own.. so they've tried to recreate that, build their own stars, own buzz, and now they're in their bubble and so isolated even from the actual product... I mean, Josephine and Alessandra are wearing the same bra in the same color in the same segment, I didn't see a single bralette, which is probably their most ambitious venture after years stuck in Wonder Bra mode. I think lingerie was slightly more visible this time and I even found myself wondering about certain items (probably the only person paying attention to that, I know!) but surprise, you can't really find garters or tights in their website or store
rolleye
, and on the other hand, you can find most of what was show in their website.. so nothing new in that aspect either. Point is, if they can't get their act together in the very essence of the show... the rest will end up being just as weak.
Finally, back to the Miss Universe thing, they need to drop crap like the parts with Gigi and Josephine "
omg ever since I was a little girl, my dream in life was wearing Victoria's Secret wings... all I ever aspired to.. I can't hold the tears.. every girl dreams about being a Victoria's Secret angel". Seriously?.. if that's really their dream, great? but don't make it public! it's embarrassing, retrograde and sends such an awful message to both male and female viewers.. Victoria's Secret is fun and we all love wearing lingerie and it makes women feel beautiful and sexy and that's all positive, but promoting it as if the ultimate dream of girls is to walk in bra and panties in a televised show sounds about as stupid and stereotyping as having some dude saying his ultimate dream in life is to run shirtless with a six pack in a football field, like, okay?. If they really are helping out with charities, they should focus on that instead, maybe focus on what their "alumni" is doing with charities, the projects Gisele, Doutzen, Karlie or Toni are involved with for instance, focus on models that have pursued education and are still ~Angels~ by night, sexiness in a modern way so to speak, not your sole occupation!, keep it fun but not stupid. Young girls are very aware of feminism now more than ever, so this just keeps them even more irrelevant than they already are.
