Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2011 - *Please see first post before posting*

^ That's the only downfall about CW, and ultimately it is all about how many viewers they can get and not just hitting the assumed key demographic.

As for the added fluff courtesy of CBS - I think on any network it would be like this because it's not just about having a lingerie show - it's about keeping an audience. I think even if style network picked up the show that there would be something more than just the models in lingerie. No matter what network picks it up the extra fluff will be there. That's what happens when things get put on tv.

Exactly, at the end of the day it's all about money. CBS isn't airing this just for fun. The more total viewers the show has, theoretically the more they'll have in that key 18-49 demo.

Shows make money from advertising. Advertisers are interested in that particular demo. The higher a show rates in the 18-49 demo, the more a network can charge for the ads that air during that particular program. That's why a show like Body of Proof on ABC can have nearly 10 million viewers per ep, but is up for cancellation because it only rates a 2.0 in the 18-49 demo.

CBS and any other network channel, ABC, CBS, FOX (except maybe NBC, b/c their overall ratings are so low that they're willing to give its shows more creative leeway, NBC basically has nothing to lose at this point) is going to add 'fluff' to the VSFS show because they want to add eyeballs.

Funny enough, last year's VSFS had the most viewers in seven years, since the 2003 show, which didn't have nearly as much of the 'fluff.'

ok -- a couple of things from the past few pages:

first: agee, your comment about "3rd largest bank in wichita" literally had me CACKLE OUT LOUD, alone, in my apartment. tried to karma you. wouldn't let me. but thanks for the laugh. haha.

second: i'm sorry - but Chanel's body is SPECTACULAR. i have no idea what the rest of you are complaining about all the time. the girl might be annoying, but she's got a banging body. she actually looks healthy and relatively curvy. she's got boobs and she's got one of the best butts in the entire show. so ... i don't get it.

thirdly: in that "meet the fresh faces of PINK" video --- Karlie reminds me of Jack Skellington from that movie, "The Nightmare Before Christmas". i was very excited for her. and i AM a staunch supporter of her as a model and as a future mega-representative for the VS brand. but for right now??!! no. no. no. she looked flat out terrible there.

^Thank you. I know she's not 99% of tfs's cup of tea but her body is not that different from the other models. It's just that her hips aren't as wide. That's. It!

It might be a better fit for the CW, but it wouldn't have nearly as many viewers. The VSFS had 9mil viewers, and a 3.4 rating in the almighty 18-49 demo last year.

The CW is averaging 2mil viewers for the current viewing season for its shows. The Vampire Diaries, which is the network's most viewed show only pulls around 3mil viewers, and has had a season high demo rating of 1.4.

Point being, even when one of the big four networks is having a bad night, they have way more viewers than the CW.
Exactly, you took the words right out of my mouth!!!! Moving the VSFS to the CW or cable is a major downgrade, it would be like moving an event from Yankee Stadium to a local high school football stadium, perhaps it won't be as much of a downgrade if it was moved to one of the big cable outlets like USA, TNT or MTV, but I don't know how that will change the substance of the show, if anything it will start to trend even younger and trashier - they will probably have three PINK segments including a Teen Mom inspired segment. Also the show gets re-broadcast on The CW, so why move it there. Now I do think that it is a good idea to integrate into the audience and on the Pink carpet younger stars from shows that are aired on networks that are owned by the same conglomerate that owns CBS, so that would be shows like Gossip Girl and The Vampire Diaries. IIRC stars like Michelle Trachtenberg and Katerina Graham have been to the VSFS or other VS events. Perhaps another idea is to selectively air previous VSFSs on MTV or VH1 in the week or so leading up to the show as a form of promotion.

Until there's a drastic drop in ratings or sales I don't think VS is really gonna do anything.
And see thats the thing, in addition to the info nrllaless provided, last years show did well in the demographics and was the highest rated show since 2003 which is phenomenal considering the general decline in audience for broadcast television, which is why I don't think that we are going to see the return of supermodels or star models like Naomi, Heidi or Tyra, perhaps if they do some kind of tribute segment, but other than maybe Gisele doing double duty as the host, I can't see any of the stars from VSFSs past being part of the line-up on an ongoing basis. I am disappointed but it is what it is.

I don't know if this year's show will get similar ratings as last year but if it does, consider the paradigm as having officially shifted and buckle up for more of what we've seen in the recent shows: more musical guests who are the hot acts of the moment, PINK being given prominence, more costumes, churn factor in models, although truth be told someone posted some numbers a while back and the proportion of new faces in this year's show is not higher than previous one, but I think that the churn will be in established faces, for example in the past two years Karolina, Selita, Isabeli, Ana Beatriz and Caroline T have fallen by the wayside.

Awww thank you!

Yep Chanel's definitely assets, and even if her hips aren't wide, she has a defined waist so she actually has an hour glass shape which cannot be said about many celebrated VS models like Gisele, Alessandra and maybe even Adriana. I was just looking at a video interview of Chanel and Alessandra and they did a flashback to Chanel's fitting for last year's show and the girl had it going on!

Karlie didnt look good there but she did look really good in the actual show ! Plus she is really pretty and has a very personable personality and the LONGEST legs ^_^

Does anyone have request while I'm grabbing images? I can't promise I'll find anything, but I don't mind looking. :)

Why Doutzen or Miranda are never on events

It's probably a combination of who is available, who is part of a specific campaign itself, and who VS decides to attend. Miranda did her fair share of events before getting pregnant. Since then, she's done a bit but not as much some of the others. Doutzen's never been sent on a lot of events by VS. Lily's done more events in her one year as an angel than Doutzen's done in her three years as an angel.

VS should really get back to their roots, switch over from CBS or something. People will watch if the show is good, they don't have to resort to crazy antics to lure people in. Have great models and working supers from the past return(KK, Heidi, Tyra, Gisele(if possible), Naomi, Carmen, Angela, Laeticia, Raquel, Liya, Eva, Fernanda, Oluchi, Ana B B), combined with the top models of now that actually fit(Joan, Candice, Adriana, Alessandra, Doutzen, Miranda, Lara, Rosie, Constance, Iselin, Hilary, Isabeli, Natasha, Bianca, Izabel, Karmen, Toni, Magdalena, Edita, Eniko, Jourdan, Maryna, Cintia, etc.)

They spend $12 million on the theatrics and performers, that money can be used towards getting a great cast. Combine that with a new location like Paris/London, somewhere new, and actual lingerie, not party city costumes, but some good outfits and an amazing soundtrack can lead to an amazing show. The ratings dipped in 06 because that show seemed too washed up, starting getting corny with that year, especially the whole Hollywood esque atmosphere/PINK promotion, and plus the fact that the great models of the past like Naomi/Tyra did not walk that year. Now its all a concert with models being extras, they don't have any major faces so they resort to theatrics to lure the audience.

I agree with you 100% BUT changing the location to like Paris/London isn't neccessarily good for the ethnic models...especially in London despite it's diversity (I'm raising my eyebrow at VS because the "black models" are actually all mixed and it wasn't like that before). I think the US is cool for the show and anyother place will ruin it really.

^^I dont care for that kind of diversity. For me there is no need for any "black angel" at all. Or asian. But thats just me.

i think they need one.i want them to have one.
but of course i want some one who represent them right.
n also represent what a VS angel should be.
not like the one they have right now

i really hope this comment is just wry humour.

i understand the idea that you don't hire someone simply because they're a minority. but Victoria's Secret is an American company. and just like any other major American company, they have a certain responsibility to provide jobs to qualified minorities. if everyone involved in fashion felt the same way you do - there might not be a single face that represents non-caucasians. or we'd have more of those offensive editorials of white models in blackface. and that is not representative of what America stands for, nor is it representative of Victoria's Secret's buying public.

IMO Lais is the next angel in line, but I said the same thing about Ana BB for years lol and that never happened yet. Sooo... :/
