Project Runway Season 5

Does anyone else think Jerrell's bride dress looks like Carrie's V. Westwood bride dress? At least the breast part anyway.

Leanne's wedding dress is gorgeous. I'm impressed by the architecture she employed in the skirts.

I thought of Carrie's dress too, which was one a lot of people hated when they first saw the pap pics. For some reason it read better on the screen...

While I do think Kenley's wedding gown was a near carbon copy of McQueen's work, I really don't think Leanne's dress look that similar to Valentino. Plus, her dress looks just like her prior work, so I really doubt she was copying other designer.

This has probably already been asked if not already answered, but do we have info on Leanne's frames?

The moment I saw it, I thought that too.

Could you imagine if Vivienne Westwood was on Project Runway? She would be thrown out...I have a feeling the judges wouldn't go for her brand of genius.

The collections looked very good on tv. I really didnt' have that much complain with either one of them, just minor things.

Leanne - no doubt it was the most complex and sophisticated collection. But done very tastefully and innovetively. My only concern was that it was repetitive at times. There were at least 3 mini skirts that looked almost identical and whiel that may be ok when you have 40 looks, when you only have 10... don't know. And like the judges said, her challenge will be to branch out and not stay with that one thing.

Korto - I was surprised by how much I ended up liking it, because I really didn't think that much of it from pictures. My biggest fear was that those colors would look tacky and overwhelming, but they weren't. She brought her roots into it, but it was drag. My concern with her line was that it didn't have that something ... extra. It was all pretty, but almost JC Penney pretty? Can't explain it, but it didn't look high fashion?

Kenley - loved it (save that first look). It was surprisingly cohesive and very pretty. But unlike Korto's it looked very architectural. Also loved the colors and the paint work. You can't get around the copying issue though. I'm not saying she actually did copy, but it takes away from the whole thing. If it wasn't for that, it'd probably be my winner, but alas.

I so felt that Korto should have won. She had the best collection (imho). However I am not upset with Leanne getting the W. Even though Kenley is very annoying I also liked her collection.

*sigh* I have watched Project Runway from the beginning and no one who I really want to win does. Lol...A mess.

Korto should have won.

Leanne is great, but her being known as Petals Marshall is spot on. I hope she expands her innovation with pleats and folding. But with her, it's, "Waves-this, and waves-that."

I really can't stand Leanne's skirts with all those wavy flappy things. Completely ridiculous imo. But some of her dresses were very chic. I liked Korto's the most- they were well made and she had a lot of different looks but it was still cohesive.

Kenley...well, i just couldn't mentally get passed her knocking off other designers.

I honestly don't know if she intentionally does it.

The Balenciaga look alike I could see, and some of the AMcQ. She doesn't strike me as someone who stays up to date all that well. To her, I think fashion is much more than names.

^^ I could believe that if she wasn't always talking about how long of a journey this has been and how long she's been trying (like she moved to NYC just to pursue this). It's honestly like a doctor saying he's never picked up a chemistry book or doesn't follow the trends in medical technology. How do you NOT look at what others are doing, what's current when you want to enter a profession and be in the elite of that profession? Also, the fact that it's not a sort of resemblance, they are identical silhouettes and patterns. Once, twice, maybe, but as often as it has happened to her, I'm quite skeptical. I do agree with you, though, that she is definitely not someone obsessed with names. :flower:

Regardless of whether or not she was conscious of the fact that her designs repeatedly mimicked those of more established designers, she needs to start paying attention to the industry. The fact that she said that she doesn't look at other collections is totally unbelievable if she wants fashion to be "her life" (as she says so repeatedly). At the most basic level, she needs to at least get an idea of what other designers are doing so that she doesn't continue to churn out looks that are the poor man's version of something that's already out there (since she's so omnisciently in-tune with the trends of Paris runways past... ).

The fact that she was angry with the judges for consistently telling her that her designs looked like someone else's was mind-blowing. Isn't that telling you something, Kenley?

^I'm sorry, but if I spent time and work on clothes to the point where I was beat, and someone told me my work resembles that of another designers.. I'd be pretty pissed too. And as for the person who said that they don't think Kenley knowingly does it, I agree with you.

But it's not like it happened once or twice -- the judges were constantly musing over the fact that her stuff looked like someone else's. I don't devalue the work that Kenley put into her collection or the quality of her work -- the fit of her garments was usually perfect -- but the design usually looked sort of "inspired." Designers who try to make their living by their clothes are criticized and compared to each other on a daily basis.

"Other designers get the same thing" is still no reason to push away her emotion toward the subject. (As far as I'm aware) this Project Runway thing was boom boom boom for Kenley (and a lot of the other designers as well). Of course they aren't going to handle "Oh.. your piece looks like a cousin of Balenciaga." like someone who has heard that their whole career. It goes the same for everyone in the business. All people need time to adjust.

Glad to see Leanne win. I loved her collection and I think she can get beyond what was her vision with all the petals. Regardless it was executed impeccably.

Korto's was second, and No comment on the whiny brat.

I'm glad Leanne won this season. Her collection was just pristine. But then again, I would agree with what Nina and Michael said about her "petal" look.

I also liked Kenley's collection but then the thought of her copying other designers just didn't do it for me. If not for that, she'd be my winner (despite her bitchy-ness and all).

Korto's collection was surprisingly pretty. Not a fan of her designs early on but I have to say that she killed it at Bryant Park. ;)
