So I noticed we were lacking a Project Runway Season 8 thread and I couldn't believe it since we are already on the second week!

Does anyone have any thoughts? Favorite Designers so far?

:flower:

i hate this season so far
i dont see anyone that strikes me yet

Yeah, this season's been pretty underwhelming. Everyone's so forgettable, but that may be partly because there are so many of them still there and it's hard to keep track of them all.

I agree with the winner both weeks, but not much to choose from really. People eliminated though. First week, totally did not agree with that choice. Not that it was a great design or anything, but there were worse. Second week, one was rightly eliminated - Jason. Nicholas though, I quite liked his skirt and front of that top; the back of the top and that cape were awful though. Still I probably wouldn't have eliminated him for that. He really annoyed me though, so I'm kinda glad she's gone all in all.

The biggest surprise to me has been the fact that I really dislike the 90 minute format. I thought I would love it since I always love watching PR, but it just feels like it goes on forever and loses the urgency and tension.

I think they were really trying to bank on the whole "one...or more of you will go home" in the past two episodes. I was actually grateful that they sent 2 people home in the latest episode just because it was getting boring that there were so many people still in the competition!

I also feel that the Project Runway editors made a giant mistake in the last episode. When they showed the winner's prize in times square, they only showed 3 contestants. Wouldn't you automatically assume that those 3 were the finale 3? I don't know if I am the only one who is thinking this but I was pretty shocked that they didn't show EVERYONE running out in Times Square.

Ps. Did anyone find Jason to look like Garret Neff at times? Come on Michael Kors! Why didn't you keep him in! :P

Well I'm quite pleased that I don't have to wait several days for Lifetime to upload episodes. At this very moment I don't have a favorite designer. And Jason isn't as mysterious as the show or the contestants perceived him to be. I believed his "act" was a defense mechanism. I googled his name and checked out his model mayhem profile and I don't think he's a terrible designer although it's something I most likely won't wear.

I felt bad for Mondo. I wanted to hug him :unsure:

I wish Valerie's red dress with the zip down the middle won the prize, it was a very eye catching piece and perfect for a billboard. What's up with Casanova? I mean it was funny about the Dolce & Gabbana trousers but the stripper piece he made in the first episode then an okay piece on the second? I expected more of him and though he could be my favourite because of his character but I don't like his designs so far. Cant wait for the next episode though ^_^

Episode 3 is now on mylifetime.

Gretchen is getting ahead of herself since she won two challenges. I don't like over confidence and that will end up biting her. I hope she doesn't become another Kenley.

I love Andy's dress. I also liked Christopher Collin's dress. It was very simple without being boring. Besides a few duds this challenge was pretty good.

I really liked the designs in this episode.
Definately the best ones I've seen on PR in along time

Yeah, pretty good results this last episode.

I agree with the winner, his dress was pretty fantastic. I'm also ok with Valerie being in the top 3, but for me, Michael should've been up there too with his red gown. I thought the red gown was gorgeous (and I rarely like red gowns). Gretchen, Chris and Ivy had really great looks too.

I would've eliminated Casanova. Enough is enough. Sarah's look was sad but I wouldn't have even put her in the bottom 3 (maybe bottom 4 though), I'd have AJ and Kristin in the bottom three.

Also, AJ needs to get eliminated because I can't stand to look at him or hear him talk anymore. So annoying.

Oh we are on the same brain wave. I am sure they just kept Casanova for ratings and to keep things interesting. A.J was being super annoying this episode. I like how he chickened out on being the front runner for this past challenge. It was like "oh come on, if you talk the talk, you betta walk the walk!"

ps. I secretly wanted Gretchen to win again just so it would piss EVERYONE off. :shifty:

agreed. Cassanova needs to go. I like his personality but all his clothes is bad. On the first episode I didn't agree at all with the judges, that dress was not the worst of the bunch.

Casanova has the worst taste!!!
he should go home!!!!!!!
And Gretchen she has something, she totally rocks but know she is a b*tch.

Today's episode emphasized everything I hate about Project Runway (although there isn't that much about it that I hate). They rarely reward the designers who take risks and instead settle for the safest numbers. I like Michael D, but he should've won last week if anything, not this week. There was no design to that dress.

Spoiler alert.

I wanted to see more of Mondo's design. He has this way of putting together prints and color together.

Micheal C's win is a little surprising. I liked the color pallet and it compliments the hat very well. It's a cute dress but I've seen it before. A cute dress was the reason why Mckell was eliminated.

I didn't like Valerie's dress at all. If anything she needed to be the bottom 3 instead of Christopher. The dress wasn't cohesive with the hat and looked like a separate entity. Philip was the only one who pointed that out.

Kirsten never registered on my radar. Her designs typically looked thrown together with not much thought. Her work lacks passion.

Michael D's design was beautiful. I really loved the open collar concept. It didn't look like a separate entity like Valarie's design and was very cohesive without being too obvious or try hard.

I understood and saw the resort concept in April's design. It fell short, well the bottom half destroyed her and it was poorly constructed at that.

Christoper's design wasn't as bad as the judged make it. "It feels sad" was pretty a simplistic critique. The only thing I didn't like were the boots and I found them too overpowering because the hat and the vest aren't exactly subtle.

In one of Tim Gunn's episode recap video he said that this season the judges were crazy. And I'm seeing that.

I wanted to  my eyes at Ivy. Most of the designers were catty over Micheal's win. I get it. His dress was safe but so were Gretchen's and she didn't get heat for her wins even though she didn't deserve them.

Some more thoughts on last night's episode...

My favorite was AJ's. He annoys me and I would've eliminated him last week, but he delivered this week (probably because as he put it, it was different from what he usualy does). I thought it was such a good match with the hat, and the dress alone was really great too.

I also liked Casanova's dress. It reminded me of what Donna Karan has been doing the past couple seasons. The dress wasn't especially showy or groundbreaking, but it went well with the hat and it was a nice change form his usual tackiness.

My patience is running thin with Peach. How many times are we going to see a boring, pink/white dress?

Why is Ivy so scared of color , lol? I'm undecided on her look though. On the one hand, the jacket was nice and I thought it went well with the hat, on the other hand, it was kinda boring.

Valerie is getting kinda overrated. She did not deserve to be in the top three. The dress was ok, but had nothing to do with the hat/mask. Considering part of the challenge was to make a matching piece, she clearly failed.

I really liked Kristin's idea for a dress. I didn't even mind the colors. But oh boy did she fail miserably with the execution. Totally deserved to get eliminated.

I don't know if Mondo deserved to be in the bottom 3, but I really don't get his "aesthetic". All those clashing prints, all those bright colors, and then he added the mustache. Just too tacky for me.

Christopher didn't deserve to be in the bottom three with that coat/dress/vest thing, but I didn't get why his fellow designers were all gushing over it either. It didn't do anything for me.

Is it wrong that I didn't hate April's 'diaper'? I thought the jacket was very nice, but I didn't mind the shorts either. However, I wish she had made the jacket more exaggerated and made an edgy pleated skirt, or something along those lines.

Flawless episode. The judging was INSANE.

I'm happy with the team that won. I thought it was a pretty swanky collection and I like most of the designers on that team, so I was happy both ways. I don't totally agree with the individual designer who won, but since there wasn't really a standout piece to go to, I was ok with it as well. Though it did seem like the most improved award rather than best of the week award.

For the losing team, I honestly didn't think it was that bad. Some of the shapes were kind of dated, but there were some interesting ones too. It felt very Chloe (Project Runway level of course). I was DYING throughout when you know who just kept talking and talking. The whole team just kind of unraveled, lol. In the end though I was REALLY happy with who they sent home. I was a bit scarred there for a minute when the final two were left standing, but they did make the right decision.

Oh my god. I am glad that there was some sort of meltdown catastrophe on the runway. It made for excellent TV.

I honestly did not like the winning team's collection. For me, It got tacky and wayyy too JC Penny. The colors really put me off. I did like the winner's pants. But Like MyNameIs said, I kind of don't agree with it. They probably chose the winner for the drama.

The losing collections team was so good to a certain level. I agree with the judging on certain pieces. The fit was horrible on all the models. I was just more shocked at the behavior of the designers. I am glad that they all voiced their opinion on who the weakest link is. Even if the judges didn't buy it. The person who was sent home was the right choice.

ps. Tim turned ghetto that last minute! It made me feel gross that he singled someone out for sending that person home. Lame!

pps. Didn't this challenge remind you of Season 1 challenge when they had to make a 6 piece collection!? There was so much drama with that challenge too! It's cursed!

I liked Peach's top. This was really a departure from her typical design.

I love how the losing team were boasting about how great they were and it backfired and watching everything unfold was so entertaining:p

They got a taste of their own medicine when in fact I don't find any designer all that superior from other designers. There's no clear winner in this challenge besides the much and over hyped Gretchen, Valarie and Ivy.

The losing team needed to have a mind of their own instead of going along with one designer's words. It's pathetic. They went along with the designer's words because she's over hyped and praised.

The losing team behaved really poorly at the judging.

OK, Gretchen is an obnoxious b*tch. Though I admit she's got style and good taste in fashion. Yet, she was incredibly annoying at the judging.
