Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2010

I mean why cant they just have simple underwear (in an array of colours) and then OTT hats/scarfs/earrings/necklaces?.....or if they are going to be in clothes put them in NICE balmain/versace/givenchy/marchesa-ESQUE outfits - I dont get the need for the nastyness of it all........
Because then it would just be boring like every other runway show out there. It's supposed to be over-the-top. I don't think it would be half as popular if it was so bland.

I really like Adriana now after following this thread. God she's gorgeous!

Thought this was interesting and worth sharing :D

Carine Roitfeld, Inez van Lamsweerde, and Vinoodh Matadin were all in attendance for Wednesday's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show taping, and though it's apparently Roitfeld's favorite show (she attends almost every year), all three apparently had ulterior motives for their appearances — they were scoping out the cast for a Vogue Paris editorial.

The Imagist reports: "[Roitfeld didn't just want] a dose of good old American spectacle. Let's just say there's a veeeery sexy Inez and Vinoodh edit abrewing for Vogue Paris. Extra points to the gossip gurl who can suss out who the cast for that booking will be. There's said to be at least 3 angels (past n present) in the mix." And today, jewelry designer Rodrigo Otazu Tweeted: "Busy morning with French Vogue shoot [sic] today with top models Karolina Kurkova, Lily Donaldson, Adriana Lima and Izabel Goulart." The cast fits the description: Kurkova, Lima, and Goulart are three Victoria's Secret Angels past and present.

I think it's fair to say that this year show has exceeded everyone's expectations (at least from what we're seeing so far) especially compared with last year's disaster.
Can't wait to actually see all the montage.

Thank you, nothingless, and anyone who has uploaded HQs! That's a huge effort, so thank you!!

Was that fluffy thing that Adriana wore with the FB counted as her wings?

So glad KK was at the show - she's definitely my fave by far.

I'm so disspointed about the hair & make up this year! The 2008 make up was so shiny

^Absolutely agreed! You can say what yo uwant about 2008 but so many of the mdoels were BEAUTIFUL MORE MORE BEAUTIFUL as apposed to this year.

I agree. I liked the makeup in 08. It looked especially good on the blondes/lighter brunettes. This year looks too everyday girl hair and makeup :(

do you think the producers tell just the angels/bombshells (whatever they are called these days) to ham it up, while the 'high fashion' girls are just allowed to strut.
i know they are told to interact with the crowd, kisses, arms up and all that jazz, but the main VS girls are the only ones really doing it...
i think girls like lily d, maryna, anja, julia etc actually did a better job without all the antics.... like the old days
My guess is that all of the models are given broad instructions along the lines of "show personality," and "interact / react to the audience." Hamming it up on the runway is not the exclusive purview of Victoria's Secret, models hamming it up is a staple at the Dior, John Galliano and Jean-Paul Gaultier runway shows, while I would not refer to it as hamming it up, many Dolce & Gabbana, Viktor and Rolf, Michael Kors, DSquared2 and Chanel shows have a theatrical flair. Also looking at the pictures from the 2010 VSFS, it appears that some of the "high fashion models" did indeed ham it up, so to me it looks like they are actually doing more than strutting.

IMO, as the VSFS becomes more about spectacle and less about fashion, ironically the more they will target high fashion models and be less concerned about a model's conventional beauty and sexiness. If they were still doing it they way they did it in the "good old days," they would be getting models from Wilhelmina and the commercial boards at Ford, Elite, Women and IMG. I am not saying that sexiness and bombshell beauty goes away, but as long as a model can be made presentable with extensions, bronzer and clever editing, that widens the net that they can cast from. Would Magdalena Frackowiak get cast in the VSFS in the early 2000s, hell no(!) - that does not mean that she is not beautiful, but there are 1,000 other models in NYC who are surer bets when it comes to appealing to a mass audience, but Magdalena is a great, big... wait for it... ham(!), hello, didja see the Chanel Cruise video! Didja see that chick at the last couple of Dior haute couture shows? the last Dior Cruise show? what about Oscar de la Renta? I hate to break it to you all but Magdalena, Abbey Lee, Adriana, Maryna, Coco, Alessandra, Sasha P, Karlie, Aminata and Chanel are the same type of model - big personalities who, when the situation calls for it, can serve up a lotta ham - it has nothing to do with commercial vs. high fashion, it has to do with being cast in a show that calls for a certain type.

P.S. A lot of the current top models, especially Americans or non-Americans who are internet savvy or follow pop culture, grew up on VS and most likely their view of modeling was shaped more by Adriana, Heidi and Tyra and their 'antics' more than Daria and Natalia. My point being is that I am willing to bet that for many of these models, booking the VSFS is not only a major professional milestone but also the realization of a fantasy that many of these models had when they were little girls / teen-agers.

I didn't mind the hair, it was refreshing to have is so...casual. I still wish they'd give the girls straight hair like they had in 2004/05?

It's the makeup that's terrible, whoever was in charge of tanning should be fired. KK, Maryna, Stam, etc all looked terrible.

Chanel Iman's photo diary (CLICK FOR HQ PICS)

Getting your first set of Victoria’s Secret wings is like being inducted into the Rock-’n’-Roll Model Hall of Fame, which is why former Angel-in-training Chanel Iman could barely contain her excitement. “They weigh at least 35 pounds,” said the 20-year-old model, who walked her first VS show last year. “Moving gracefully is really mind over matter with them on.” Chanel mastered the art of her new walk not once but twice yesterday night, making her winged debut at the show in a flurry of white feathers and sparkling crystals. Here she shares a photo diary of the show exclusively for Vogue and traces the behind-the-scenes moments of her big day.

On the day of the show, my schedule is always packed from 5:00 a.m. right till 10:00 p.m. Makeup and hair start at 8:00 a.m. and end around 4:00 p.m. It’s easily one of the longest working days of my year, but also one of my most exciting. I finished up earlier than a lot of the girls because my makeup for the show was pretty natural.

I did so many press interviews yesterday that I lost count after 35! A radio journalist from Columbus, Ohio, said the strangest thing of all. He pulled out a piece of fried chicken and said that he would give me $100 if I ate it. I laughed and told him to put it back in the bag. Who knows where he got it from!

Since I used to love getting autographs as a child, I never turn down anyone that asks me. I remember this young girl on the street approached me and asked me to sign her brand-new tennis shoes. I made sure she wasn’t going to get into trouble before I put a marker to them, though. It’s actually things like that that keep me going.

The good thing about phone cameras is you don’t have to worry about angles—it’s always soft focus!

Here all the angels and I are leaving the makeup area and heading backstage. There’s a secret passageway that goes under the Armory to a huge elevator that lifts up to the main stage. It’s all very James Bond.

Me and Rosie were having way too much fun! We kept laughing at the MC and producer and their snazzy outfits. It’s a lot of gossip and girl talk backstage. I see most of the other angels all the time; we’re like a big VS family.

That’s me with Jessica in my first look. I’m a Yankees fan, so it was nice to wear a baseball-inspired look to start with. I did an event with Mark Teixeira a while back. I had this blinged-out baseball bat that Mark was obsessed with. I always wear my Yankees hat—everyone should have one.

This was my magical moment : I was just about to step onstage with my wings for the first time. The wings are actually not as heavy as they look, although they are very big. I like that they are very classic, traditionally VS for my first time. Later on I wear wings made from glass bubbles in the show; they were so heavy I almost didn’t wear them! The designer told me he’d spent six months making them. After hearing that, I couldn’t turn him down—plus it was his birthday!

My mum and my sister had flown out for the day from L.A. to see the show, so I knew that I had to come out strong. I just put my hands in the air and let the wings follow behind me. Akon was onstage with me, singing, and that definitely helped with the nerves. I’m a fan of his music.

Here’s me with my boyfriend, Chris, after the show; we’re about to head out to the after-party with my sister and my best friend. After such a huge production, it’s really fun to run into all the people you worked with, and of course a lot of stress gets released. I wore this beautiful red Prabal dress—my special dress. It felt like I was just at graduation and on my way to pick up the award.

Well to be fair KK's tan was done on her own accord, so it wasn't VS's fault.

But I have to say this show was spectacular! Everything just seemed to go so right. No odd shaped runway, great casting/new faces, improved outfits, beautiful venue, and amazing finale! The finale had such an 05 vibe with all the girls dancing together at the end of the runway!

Odd question, but does anyone know if Adriana's husband Marko attended the show?

EDIT: I liked Chanel's little diary there! She came across as very down to earth :) Nice to see that all the girls are friends and have fun :)

Backstage at the Victoria’s Secret show with the Baron of Bronzing
by Molly Creeden

Jessica Stam backstage with Jimmy Coco.

It’s three hours before the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is set to begin. Backstage at the 69th Regiment Armory (familiar to the fashion set as the site of the Marc Jacobs show), the beauty infantry is out in full force. Makeup artist Tom Pecheux sweeps a brush over Karolina Kurkova’s cheek. A member of hairdresser Sam McKnight’s team twirls one of Chanel Iman’s locks with a curling iron while she gives interviews over the din of purring hair dryers. Liu Wen removes her motorcycle boots and prepares for a pedicure. Brazilian runway star Isabeli Fontana arrives, making a beeline for two curtained-off booths in the back. “In this tent,” she says, “we create a glow. We sparkle, like stars.”

Fontana is referring to the bronzing booth, where the most worshipped bodies in the world pop in for a little extra magic. “People say, ‘Oh, models have to be perfect; they can’t have cellulite.’ But we’re women,” points out Fontana as a makeup artist applies Victoria’s Secret shimmer powder to her outstretched bare leg.

The man to see here is Jimmy Coco, who is currently aiming a spray gun at model Flavia de Oliveira’s abs. It is his assignment to use his custom tanning technique to not only add radiance and depth to models’ skin but to expertly airbrush their bodies as well. Coco is Hollywood’s reigning tanning titan. He bronzed Rosie Huntington-Whiteley—one of the latest additions to the VS Angels corps—for her role in the upcoming Transformers 3, and Katy Perry (a performer at the show last night) for her “Hot n Cold” and “California Gurls” videos. For the past four years he has been a regular backstage at Victoria’s Secret, a job he got through Miranda Kerr.

Coco’s work goes something like this: “First I match their darkest area of skin tone. Then I use different volumes of spray pattern to do enhancements and contouring by shading in lines. See, Flavia already has muscle lines that we can follow, so we’ll accentuate them,” he explains. “You can make someone look much thinner by darkening the outside of the body, like, if there’s a problem with the hips, which,” he says, looking around and raising his eyebrows, “I obviously don’t see too much of that at this show.”
